Most recently, I've ordered two wind jackets, light weight and waterproof. I live in Southern California so testing the waterproofness is unpredictable - we don't get much rain here and my club bike rides are usually cancelled if it's raining. BUT I've worn each of them (same jackets but different colors) now and find them a useful layer when it's not too cold and not warm enough. It's useful because it can be shed quickly when the weather warms enough to not need the extra layer. And it's lightweight enough to stuff in a pocket or handlebar bag. These jackets come with a small bag in which to stuff the jacket.
