I had a parent pass away a couple of months ago leaving behind an insolvent estate (debts and absolutely no money or assets to settle them). This was a horrible shock and I've been navigating the probate process since.
I'm having to deal with 3 separate credit card companies and Tesco have, without a doubt, been the worst from the start. When I initially informed them of the bereavement the call centre operator started to argue with me about who the executor of the estate was (there's nothing to administrate as there's zero assets). I sent an official letter informing them of this and received an extremely blunt communication advising me they were outsourcing the debt to a debt collection agency (to hound me for non-existent money!) A waste of both their time and mine and making a stressful situation so much worse.
I have never had a Tesco bank account or credit card and would use practically any other financial institution after this experience and I would advise others to do the same.
