Went to The Range this morning. On the art shelf noted a pack of six Derwent Soft Pencils on a metal hanging rack, priced at £3.99. I took a pack to the till where I was told the price was £7.99. I queried the price and took a female assistant that I took to be a manager, and showed her the display all clearly marked at £3.99. “ Oh well “ she said “ staff have been moving things about and haven’t bothered to change the price ticket “. She then went on to say that I should have read the microscopic print on the bottom of the price label that apparently mentioned another item. There was no other price displayed for the item that I wanted. I reminded her that I had every right to purchase the product at the price shown, however she was adamant that I had made the mistake and I would be charged the till price not the price displayed on the shelf. I note from other review sites, I am not the first to have this problem at this store. So the choice are, either the staff are totally incompetent and unable to correctly price their stock, or, this is deliberate deception on the part of the store. I tend to believe the latter. I wonder how many people having taken the item to the till, just pay the higher price, after all they must want to buy the product and probably don’t want the conflict. I on the other hand won’t be conned and didn’t complete the purchase, neither will I be going to shop there again and will be making these views known via social media.
