I purchased a sweatshirt from the Range in Torquay today 19/9/21 the signs around the clothing department stated that due to covid 19 items cannot be tried on. The usual policy displayed at customer services. states any item purchased can be returned as long as it is returned with a valid receipt with original tags etc. For a exchange or refund if items are not suitable. When I returned to the store later that day to exchange/refund the sweatshirt that was too small. I was informed that as this was a "clearance" item I could not have an exchange/refund or credit for the sweatshirt. I spoke to the duty manager Jenna who stated it was company policy NOT to exchange or refund "clearance" items. I was not made aware of this at the time of purchase and when I went to the clothing area with the duty manager Jenna who insisted there was a sign stating "clearance" item were not refundable. There were no signs stating this. The duty manager Jenna then apologised and said she agreed that I should have been made aware of this before purchase but the sign informing customers of this different policy for "clearance" items was missing due to "human error" However despite the "human error (admitted by Jenna the duty manager) regarding no signs to inform customers of this change to the usual returns policy for "clearance" item. The duty manager Jenna then insisted that I could have tried the sweatshirt on before purchase despite there being signs clearly displayed stating due to covid NOT to try items of clothing on! Again she referred to this a "human error" as these signs should have been removed when government restrictions where lifted. I was absolutely astounded that under the circumstances with regards to these "human errors" the the duty manager Jenna would not offered a refund or exchange! Leaving me with a sweatshirt that does not fit, This is terrible customer service! and what I believe is a breach of my statutory rights.
