So this starts in January 2024 when we design a new family bathroom at Wickes, with a total price tag of 11k. We are told works will start on April 10th. We soon find out after never doing a home project like this before that Wickes employs third party local trades that in our experience are unvetted. Our guy turns up and after being told by the designer Millie it will take 7-10 days he starts work. Destruction, dust, debris and tools everywhere, this goes on for 99 days! To cut a long story short the original tradesman works short days of 9-11am sometimes longer, but the pace is slow. He calls in sick for a week because of a bad back then returns with son in law and works a further 2 weeks with little progress. He then starts Demanding his 2nd instalment of over £1000 for specialist works. Even though the bathroom is far from finished. We live like this for weeks with no working family bathroom and a 3 year old child. Original trades then starts to threaten via email and Wickes advise to pay him and he'll be taken off the job. We then live for 2 months with nothing just the smell of raw sewage from the badly plumbed in toilet which in July gets unblocked from loo paper and cardboard inserts that have been put there from original trades. Living like this was a true nightmare with a toddler in the Heat of the summer. Wickes just didn't care, took months to get another company in to complete the job and just left us. Finally in mid June we get contacted by a company Wickes use to fix the mess ups they've made. The MD of the company literally lives off this and has some horrendous stories he shares about how Wickes operate. He books in two of his guys but they'll be a months wait. They arrive after waiting 6 weeks and unblock the toilet, re lay the floor and sort out all the other cowboy workmanship. They work non stop over two 13 hour days to finish. But still we are waiting for wickes to send a new towel radiator , mirror and extra tiles to complete the job. We then wait from July to September for this to happen. But finally we have a bathroom we can use after 99 days of living in a building site Another guy comes from the new company to finish off and a plumber is sent to do the radiator, he comes back in October to finally finish off. This is just a short version of the horrible situation wickes put us in. They have today sent an email demanding I pay in full the rest of the balance first payment starts in November. We have already paid £4k of the original 11k. We are so unsatisfied and angry the way we have been treated, that we are now seeking help and advice from anyone that thinks we are are in a the right to stand up to this horrible company that think this is fine to treat people like this. Having spoken to the Citizens Advice they have said Wickes have broken the Consumer rights act 2015 totally and they were speechless to how we've been treated. Please think wisely before using this horrendous outfit
