I ordered a package from Argos around March initially being told it would arrive within 7 days. It did not arrive. In the meantime the item had come back in stock elsewhere and I had ordered the same item and subsequently rang to asked to cancel the Argos order. I was told my an employee on the phone it was dispatched and I should accept the order and then return it when stores opened again and have 30 days to do so. (IF I was updated with the order of my parcel I would have never made another order in the first place.)
I receive the package this morning from Argos and it is evident that the box had been clearly opened and tampered with as there are creases all over the box and no seal. I call Argos immediately to notify them of this and queried whether it would affect my rights to return the item. The employee then said that Argos staff sometimes are required to open packages to inspect the item to check it is ok, but he then went on to tell me that I may not be able to return it and they need to inspect the item and box when I take it back. WHY would you therefore open these packages knowing very well that you may not accept a return as the box has been tampered with, when the staff are the ones who are opening these boxes themselves. I am now stuck with a very expensive order I may not be able to return because of a ridiculously flawed policy that needs to be reviewed ASAP.
