Do not rent a car via Rentcar.com. Please read!
Update as of September 2: RentCars.com has made some superficial attempts to save face, but rather than taking responsibility, they’ve done nothing but point fingers at the local car rental agency. This is completely unacceptable.
I booked a rental car well in advance for my holiday, only to have my flight canceled two months before our trip. We quickly rebooked our flight and, naturally, I needed to adjust the pickup date for the car. Despite already having a confirmed reservation, RentCars.com claimed it was impossible to change the pickup time because “no cars were available.” This was baffling since I wasn’t asking for an earlier pickup—just to collect the car 18 hours later than originally planned.
Even more confusing, when I checked the system, it showed my new pickup date as one day later than my original booking, but only on the date-change page, not in the original booking itself. I contacted RentCars.com via their chat service, hoping to resolve this discrepancy, but their response was shockingly inadequate. Instead of addressing the issue, they repeatedly asked for the same pickup date and location information. After several frustrating attempts, they gave me a phone number that was unreachable.
As a result, my booking was canceled by the local operator, and I was forced to pay an additional €200. I’ve been trying to get in contact with RentCars.com for six days, but their support is not helpful. Replies come every 48 hours, and despite providing all the necessary details—my booking number, screenshots, dates, and location—the chat was abruptly canceled when I didn’t respond within four hours. Their Customer Happiness Assistant is just a way to stalling not solving issues.
This experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. RentCars.com is a total scam. They don’t care about their customers, and their app, website, and chat support are utterly useless. Save yourself the headache—do not rent a car through RentCars.com!
