I booked a prepaid rental car with Sicily By Car through Rentalcars.com (Booking ref. 615715664). The full payment was taken well in advance. When we arrived at Bergamo Airport within the official 2-hour grace period, I was told there were no cars available. No alternative or assistance was offered, and Rentalcars customer support was equally unhelpful. We were left without the car I had paid for, forced to rent from another company on the spot at a higher price and for fewer days. What followed was almost two months of exhausting correspondence with their support, who replied briefly and dismissively, without ever addressing the key facts. Despite providing clear evidence, they repeatedly denied responsibility. In the end, the only way I recovered my money was by filing a chargeback through my bank for non-delivery of service. This experience caused unnecessary stress, disrupted my vacation plans, and shows that even when you prepay, you may end up with financial, moral, and practical problems during your holiday. Strongly advise avoiding both Rentalcars and Sicily By Car.

I rented a car from them last week (August 2025). I paid them for the rental of the car through Hertz. When I picked up the car at Hertz, I was forced to pay them over $200 more for taxes and such. Rental cars.com did NOT save me money! BEWARE! DO NOT USE THEM!!!

I rented a car through them in Colombia. When I arrived to pick it up, the company couldn't release the car to me because I have a passport from one country but a driver's licence from another. There is a mention of having matching ID to pick up the car, but nowhere does it state that that means same country. I've rented all over the world and it has never been a problem before. Alamo was very nice and agreed to waive the cancellation fee that they would normally charge, they put it in writing to Rentalcars.com. Yet Rentalcars refused to return the full amount and made it sound they were doing me a favour by agreeing to refund me part of the rental cost. It took endless emails, first they said I could get the a full refund if Alamo agreed to waive the cancellation fee but they then went back on that and only gave me a partial refund. Terrible customer service. Up until now, I used Rentalcars several times a year, but Never Again! They just steal your money and lie. From now on I rent directly with the rental company.

I will NEVER rent from them again. Their customer service is horrible. Our flight was delayed so my car got canceled and they refused to refund me. I finally got half back but it wasn't my fault that the plane was delayed. They were so mean on the phone and had no care about the customer. Stay away!

Made a reservation thru rentalcars.com with Dollar rental car. Secured a payment with my debit card. I was told at the counter that a debit card was not accepted. So I was not able to rent, but rentalcars.com kept a certain amount of my money and will not refund me my money. I contacted rentalcars.com via chat and was told that debit cards are not accepted as payment. So why can a person make a reservation with a debit card? Better business bureau will be contacted and other agencies to help deal with this issue. DO NOT USE rentalcars.com if you want to rent a car contact a rental car company there are many apps to download. BEWARE

Rentalcars.com took no responsibility for issues with the booking. They tried to find every loophole and did not resolve the issue, it was the rental car company Sixt that actually helped and were very good. The rental cost more than Rentalcars.com said it would and they would not refund the difference I was charged. I will not be using Rentalcars.com again. I opened a complaint with them and the agent kept emailing to say that they were looking at the issue, yet it took a month to come back and basically say contact Sixt. Nothing against the agent, but a very poor experience and I will now always go direct with whichever company is actually hiring me the car. I would recommend not booking with this company. I did to try and save money, but it actually ended up costing me more!

not worth the savings to use this company. Any changes cost yiou and tehy give no refunds should your trip shorten. Only used if you are 100% sure of no changes

IK schrijf dit bericht om jullie aandacht te vestigen op een zeer absurde toestand. Ik heb een wagen gereserveerd vandaag in Toulouse Luchthaven om 12h30, door omstandigheden ben ik 45minuten vroeger toegekomen. Aan de counter van Dollar laten ze mij weten dat de wagen niet vroeger beschikbaar kan gemaakt worden. DE wagen staat hier voor de deur. IK moet letterlijk wachten tot 12h30 om zelf maar aan het papierwerk te beginnen. Ik kan dit niet begrijpen. Als dit een verzekeringskwestie is tot daar aan toe maar zelf niet aan de papieren beginnen dat vind ik toch alles behalve een goede customer experience. Ik zal dus moeten wachten tot 12h30 dan zeker nog 20minuten papieren moeten invullen vooraleer ik hier kan vertrekken. Heel dit process gaat langer duren dan mijn eigenlijke vlucht. Dit is de laatste keer dat ik via jullie platform zal bestellen.

I rented a car in september 2024, they did not manage to find a suitable car to match my request so I refused the rental. I have called over 20 times and is January 2025. Still haven't received any refund. As a side note, The refund amount it's 30% of the sum paid initially for the rental. STAY AWAY !!!! Also, the price of the insurance is even more then the price of the rental... again, STAY AWAY.

Booked and paid for a rental car in Poland through Rentalcars.com, upon arrival in the airport, it turned out that the Polish rental car companies had changed their policies, requiring a credit card with full first names printed on it. Since Dutch banks don't do this, I had to pay €150 extra for insurance, even though I already paid Rentalcars.com for full coverage. After filing the complaint, and stating that Rentalcars.com booking information and acceptance was not up to date, I only got €50 back. Loss for the customer €100, thank you big greedy corporations, once more you cheat costumers out of money and let them pay for your negligence!! First time booking through Rentalcars.com and right away THE LAST TIME. BE AWARE, you can not hold them accountable for their poor service, negligence or other failures. You the customer will pay, all you get is some useless excuse that they did all they can.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Rentalcars.com. I booked a car in advance to pick up at Charles de Gaulle Airport. Unfortunately, my flight with Austrian Airlines was delayed by two hours, and by the time I arrived, the Europcar desk had already closed. When I returned the next morning to collect the car, Europcar refused to honor my reservation, despite the delay being entirely out of my control. I reached out to Rentalcars.com for assistance, expecting support or a refund since the rental terms were not fulfilled. However, I received no resolution, leaving me with unnecessary expenses of over $500 AUD and significant frustration. ⚠️ BE AWARE: If you cannot pick up your car on the same day, you WILL NOT be able to collect your car, and you WILL NOT receive any refund. I strongly recommend renting directly from a car rental company (such as Europcar or SIXT) rather than through a third-party site—especially not Rentalcars.com.

I was suppose to pay only $33 at counter as per my rentalcars.com voucher. Instead they required me to pay $109 at counter. I called the customer service after that she asked me to proceed and open up case for the refund. When I opened up the case they closed it without notifying me and when I called and presented that it was their represenative who asked to me to proceed after she realized they provided wrong amount on voucher she hung up the phone on me. Goons with pretty voice. Get you wrong incorrect pricing.

Never rent from this company especially where they offer deals such has free fuel, free GPS or insurance for multiple drivers. It is all a con. When you arrive to collect your car the actual car hire company you hire from will tell you they have never heard of this premium package. They don't give you free fuel and penalise you if you don't bring the car back with a full tank. They have never heard of insuring multiple drivers so their advice 'Do it at your own risk!' and the car has GPS anyway. It is all a scam by 'Rentalcars' to take more money from you for actually no extra benefit. It is false advertising but they know we can't do anything about it. On top of this when you complain they don't care. Avoid at all costs.

Rented a car, was going to pick up in Bangkok airport. Car rental don't accept Visa debit card, you need credit card (why can you pay with debit card in advance I wonder?). Tried to cancel, find a substitute, impossible. Cannot contact Rentalcars, only chat. Rentalcars takes a cut after you cancel. I was promised to get the rest of the money back after one week (that's long!). After 2,5 weeks, still no money. I contacted them, they say it could be up to 3 weeks. Scammers! Use Rentalcars to find a car hire company, then contact te rental company directly. Save yourself from these losers!

We were charged almost double by SIXT car rental in Bari Italy. After paying for our rental in full to Rentalcars.com almost a year in advance our car was not available and were forced to take another car, having to pay almost the full cost again. Rentalcars.com does nothing to help you with the car rental company. When booking through Rentalcars.com you become a second class customer in the eyes of the rental car company. BEWARE don't book with Rentalcars.com

I had a terrible experience with Rentalcars. My car reservation was cancelled at the last minute when I arrived to pick it up, leaving me stranded. They offered only a refund or a much worse car at another location, which was not even comparable to what I originally booked. No other options were provided, and when I contacted customer service, they insisted that I accepted the new booking, which they used to justify cancelling my original reservation. This is completely unacceptable and unprofessional, as they had no right to cancel my initial booking in the first place.

Booked a car online and when I arrived at the pickup desk was told if I wanted GPS then I had to upgrade to which Rentalcars would fully reinburse me. They wont answer any of my emails and contact with them is futile. Never again will I use Rentalcars nor recommend them infact the only recommendation I can give is that they change their name to Ripoffcars
