Terrible experience with RAC .. was waiting for more than 7 hours … hardly recommend this to anyone

My wife’s policy ran out on the 19th February without us getting any letter or notice. My wife broke down tonight and they left my wife ALONE. In the middle of a country lane near Aylesbury 100 miles from home and even when we offered to pay they left her. She was alone in the middle of nowhere and they couldn’t have cared any less.Call your self humans let alone an emergency service. Shame on you. Thanks for nothing.

Terrible experience, 5 hours waiting for a flat tyre, and still nobody turned up. I was told initially 1-2 hours. It is the first time I use their service, NEVER NEVER again.

7 hours waiting for promised recovery from 1715 to midnight last night. Took 4-6 calls by me to RAC chasing and they eventually farmed out to another company. Appalling service and car still in the same place I left it. Have to call RAC again tomorrow as the company they sent didn't have a recovery truck there and then and wanted to collect the car "sometimes this morning early hours" without me present. No chance!

I spent over an hour just trying to report my breakdown without my glasses on in the freezing cold. I was asked to fill out forms online 3 times. Then asked to phone 3 times as well. They promised a refund twice, but never provided it.

You better stay away from RAC even if it’s free like the previous person stated. Our car broke down and we called them up at 2pm, guess what time they showed up? 11:30pm. They showed up without a tow truck!!!! The person who showed up mentioned they were only assigned the job at 11pm. Such a useless company! Avoid them!

Would have awarded 0 or minus stars if I could. Reported blow out at 16.00 yesterday. Still waiting for tow truck! Luckily I managed to get a lift home but I could have had to spend the night in the car for all the RAC cared. Fobbed off by disinterested call handlers. Asked to make an official complaint and Motorbility informed- who were extremely helpful. Thank you Ruby. Will be interesting to see if they actually turn up today! I don’t hold my breath.

Call out today at my local supermarket so only 5 minutes from home ! Van just lost power, Kev from RAC arrived in three quarters of an hour ! He carried out all the checks , no problem showing, tried the ignition again & of course van started ! Kev followed me home, explained everything to my husband . Van going to garage to see if any fault can be found ! One of life’s mysteries

The RAC have one vehicle for the county. Despite needing the vehicle for a wheelchair user and being promised earlier assistance they didn’t turn up in 2.5 hours and then said the best we can do is the next day. Absolutely hopeless on the phone. After 5 phone calls with everyone promising assistance nothing happened until my wife filed a complaint. Try any other breakdown service but these guys. Save your money because you are better off praying to a higher power than actually expecting to get any useful help from the RAC. Terrible service.

Worst breakdown service . Waited Nine hours with two toddlers in the car , mentioned this several times and was told they would be there in an hour ....9 times ! A few months later , I called at 8pm and was told they would be there at 1 am , eventually got the car going myself and cancelled the call out , now discover my payment went from £25 per month to £38 . Will be cancelling first thing .

Why can't we give a 0 or minus number? Car broke down 2 miles from home on an unlit road. 22.5 hrs later recovered by a local firm ( sent by tge RAC and taken to garage where it was discovered that the steering column had been damaged during recovery to the tune of £4500!! RAC denying all responsibility. 6 weeks on still haven't got our car back, having to claim on our insurance. We will be complaining and taking it to the ombudsman if necessary. Absolutely appalling RAC, you shouldn't be allowed to operate

Called them at 16.30 on Saturday - car died, lone female and freezing cold. Was given a time slot of 8.20-11.20pm. Couldn't get hold of anyone to speak to and only a couple of text updates at 9.45pm - still nothing so refreshed the link in one of the previous texts to discover my slot had now become 1.40-4.40a.m the next day. I had to make the decision for my own safety, so cancelled the call and risked walking home. Early the next morning 6.30a.m I logged a second call. Was initially told 11.40-13.40 as a slot but then another text saying they were sending a local agent between 11.30 & 12.00 - nothing! By 13.40, still nobody and no updates so in desperation I asked a neighbour and on the third attempt we managed to get the car going and get it safely home. I have complained to RAC and basically they are not interested and have closed my complaint. Nearly every phone line you try including the one that says 'if you want to talk to a person - use this one' takes you down a rabbit hole and back to their website. They are taking lots of money nearly £300 in my case for a service they clearly can't provide!! How are they getting away with this, it is fraud!!! I now have to try and get through to yet another department to cancel my membership and get a refund - wish me luck!! I will never recommend RAC to anyone!!!

Last night (evening of Thursday 19 Feb) my disabled wife waited outside her car over 2 hours waiting for RAC who never showed up. She was returning from a meeting is a village hall. She is paralysed and was in her wheelchair. She was locked out of her car (some electronic malfunction) with her support dog, her car key and her coat inside the car. It was dark, cold and raining. Now you can't get much vulnerable than that. She called the RAC at 18:15. She was told she would be prioritised. by 20:20, no one had arrived. By then, she had called RAC to get updates at least 3 times (probably 4 times, she lost count). Twice they said they would call her back with update, but did not call back and once they put her on hold, 'whilst they got an update', but never came back whilst she waited - she hung up following 15 minutes on hold. Eventually another recovery van (part of Green Flag), serving another incident down the road (who initially thought he was called to her) finished his job down the road and came back and helped her - managed to open the car door and recovered the keys from inside - so many thanks to that gentleman. The [not so] funny thing is she felt she had to call RAC to cancel the call-out, in case she was depriving someone else from help. So called them, but it took over 10 minutes for her to get through to cancel the call out. Shame on you RAC - a disgusting display of complete lack of care or decency. Shame on you.

Been with the RAC since 2015. My renewal came through and the price was ridiculous when I tried to cancel they offered a better price and an extra months cover free. I stupidly renewed and for the 1st time yesterday had to use their services. The wait was so long in the end I cancelled. Definitely will not be renewing again!!

Car won’t start, even with jump leads. Called up just after 3pm. Latest update at 5.30pm stated eta 10-12am. I am paying hundreds every year, not needed their service for a few years but never had to wait that long. Will not be renewing
