“This was an extremely disappointing experience. Having previously been let down by the company when I had a flat tyre, which I ultimately had to change myself because of there penalty charge of £50, I contacted them again regarding a clutch issue because I believed my existing policy provided cover. I was told that the issue could not be covered because I did not have the appropriate vehicle insurance, and when I reluctantly enquired what the resolution was, I was advised to purchase a new policy. I specifically asked whether the new policy would cover the existing problem and was assured that it would provide cover from midnight. I purchased the policy in good faith, including vehicle cover, and wondered whether this would cover the issue. However, when I called the following day, I was told that I was not covered because the problem had been reported previously. It is unacceptable to encourage a customer to purchase a new policy when the company knows that the issue will not be covered. I feel that I was misled, and the assurances I received directly contradicted the information provided afterwards. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was repeatedly left on hold and then told that no supervisor was available. Although I was promised a call back, this did not resolve the issue. As a disabled customer, I found the entire experience particularly distressing. While others may have had positive experiences, my experience involved unacceptable communication and customer service, and I would strongly advise potential customers to consider this carefully before using the company.”

“They charge extra for older cars then an extra callout fee. Then they charge a horrendous £25 call out fee even if you cancel within 14 days. Britannia rescue Does none of these has no cancellation fee and is much more highly rated than Auto Aid.”

“My husband and I had forgotten to renew our policy and luckily we were reminded with a phone call. Tina, who we were transferred to, was very kind and helpful. She was also very patient with my husband, who has a speech impediment. She told us about the speech to text telephone number and this is something that might be useful to my husband to make him feel more confident, if he ever needs a call out. Thank you again for your kindness. We were made to feel like we were more than just a number.”

“At renewal time, they take payment at midnight on the day of renewal, meaning if they can't debit the card immediately, the policy expires. This means you are then forced to take out a new policy at a higher price. I was told by a rude, unhelpful customer rep that is standard practice across all companies, and there is nothing she could do. This is clearly not the case, as my insurance company were similarly unable to take payment – however, because they tried to do so BEFORE the renewal date, rather than waiting till midnight on the day, I was able to call a few days later, update my payment information, and continue the policy. This apparent inability to extend my existing cover is despite being sent an email at 6am on 31 Oct (the renewal date) saying: "No need to panic! All you need to do is contact us ... [to] simply update your payment details or retake your payment and get you back on cover without a hitch". I assume most people simply agree to pay the extra £15, but the whole exchange left an extremely bad taste. I now have to look for a new breakdown company, but I can't continue with Auto Aid if that's how they treat their renewing customers. Put your prices up if you need to, but don't resort to underhand practices to gain a little extra cash.”
