“An exercise in frustration when trying to get items consolidated as per their own rules (new packaging, new box). Their shipping department is not at all following their own rules. Happens on each order so far - they take the item in the original box 1/2 empty and place in an even larger box when “consolidation” is selected.
Customer service reps I contacted: half tell me the above rule over and over, the other half skip answering why they do not (have to) follow their own consolidation rules - they even say it is because they cannot control the packaging at their own warehouse (not sure who can then…).
So any good savings buying on yahoo Japan from US go directly to Japanese shippers (not even to buyee).
Gave them 2 star rating: one for the deals available (though it is not controlled by Buyee) and one because the overdone packing (by sellers not by Buyee) seems at least protective for the extra $100 added to shipping costs. Photo added to show box half empty because of the giant foam pad seller used that Buyee warehouse keeps so no other item can fit in that box and consolidation can be denied.
But the overall experience is just not worth the aggravation in the end.”

“Good selection of items, but you'll probably end up spending more money here than you'd save. The problem is that they don't tell you the shipping cost up front. You pay for the item, the item arrives at their warehouse, then it's held there until you pay whatever ridiculously overpriced shipping fee they demand. Definitely not using this site again.”

“I had a missing item which I paid for item, service, consolidation and domestic fees. However, only a partial refund of the item cost was given. I feel that at the very least they should refund me the service, consolidation and domestic fees as well since it was a mistake on their part. Though I feel most proxy services work the same way, I am pretty sure I will not use buyee for yahoo auction items ever again. (The fees are just way too high anyway)”
“In general, buyee's service is so-so. They could be better (3 stars and above) if they could fix the following:
1. Inspection & damage claims (buyee charges jpy500 for this): buyee should perform actual inspection and check the photos the seller post in their page agaisnt actual visual condition of items delivered -- i have 3 claims with buyee for damaged packaging and all were rejected because the item condition stated by the seller was 'used' even though the photo provided by the seller was a packaging with perfect condition
2. Package consolidation (buyee charges jpy 500 - jpy 1000): buyee should literally remove the outer packaging the item was delivered with, pack the items individually and properly in a new box -- buyee's standard practice is just to put everything (including the outer box) into a bigger box. This results to a higher postal / shipping fee because the box size will end up very big. This defeats the purpose of package consolidation where you're supposed to be able to save on shipping cost
3. Last minute auction system malfunction: this happened numerous times already specially on the last 5 to 10 minutes of the auction. You attempt to place your bid but the page does not allow you to place your bid or sometimes the bid page simply does not launch”

I met more new things about shipping and conslidation rules and costs. The main problem is a missing helpful information before do anything new on this website.
Slowly communication because of the limited Customer Service employed, and because of the 7 hours time difference from Europe.

“I never post these types of reviews. But this needs to be said, and understood by everyone who is considering using BUYEE. There is alot of temptation to use it because you can get items that are otherwise unavailable to you here in the states.
If you are one of the buyers who had a decent experience, congratulations. Ive had a few when i bought some small inexpensive items and cheap to ship, but once I bought some bigger items, thats when the problems started.
BUYER BEWARE. Here are the main reasons:
1) If there is a fee for something, be sure that they will charge you. They will nickel and dime you for every thing they do and then some.
2) shipping charges are exhorbitant and you have to wait an eternity for items to arrive using the most affordable option.
3) if item is damaged, you have NO RECOURSE.
4) if you consolidate packages to "save" money, you actually pay more because its bigger
5) You pay a fee for consolidation, which is fine, but they dont tell you what the shipping fee is until AFTER consolidation. There is NO WAY to reverse consolidation, even if the shipping charges are more than the initial estimate prior to consolidation.
6) If you consolidated packages and its deemed oversized for the affordable shipping options, you have no shipping options other than the most expensive ones, which in my case was DOUBLE the original shipping price for separate packages.
Basically if you have any problems, you are essentially stuck and really out of luck. They operate like an early 90s internet startup company with zero buyer protection.
Good luck if you decide to take a chance. I will never use this company again. If you want to be safe, pay a little more and use EBAY. They protect buyers and you dont have to worry about anything.”
“Their insured delivery and inspection is a fraud. Buyee will steal your money but will not make live up to their responsibility. I received an item (K1910011010) that got damaged during handling or shipping. This item is under insured delivery but Buyee did not refund me for it. They keep denying me of this by giving excuses. Their customer support is now unreachable. No one wants to pick up on this case”
“I like shopping on Mercari, due to the very low price yet rare things you can find on the market. However, by using Buyee as a proxy, the fees just keep piling on each other and it becomes VERY expensive. An item listed for 1,500 yen on Mercari can easily become 4,500 yen just from using Buyee. I do not recommend buying only one item because the shipping fee will cost a lot. I have been trying to contact a Buyee agent but they were not very quick with responding. Buyee might be good if you are considering to buy multiple items.”
“the seller sent me a defective watch which he did not indicate in the listing. he said that the watch is working properly.but when it came to me its not working. no batteries even. and i contacted buyee for that to at least contact the seller or investigate for a refund.but buyee told me they cannot do anything about it.”
“The customer support is really slow. The chat makes you wait for 2 and a half hours, and then when you do not reply within three minutes they close the chat. Payment is tricky, I have tried to connect paypal but have not succeeded.”
“I have had many issues with the warehouse not consolidating packages properly I receive boxes with lots of wasted space which only makes the box larger and a little heavier and that cost me also Japan Post offers discounts on the amount of shipments you do and buyee charges the full rate and must be keeping the discount, I had dozens if of emails with there support and it is a challenge to get my concerns across, I have started using a competitor since the offer the discounted shipping and are offer an extinction on storage and buyee has not done anything to ecommend this due to covid-19 situation even after being this to there attention.”
