Great App for children struggling to read. The Application needs more setting options accessible to the users. The text message customer service is great, but would like to make the adjustment myself. I dislike that I am not able to edit interest in the child account once it's been created. Interest change and will like more variety.

My 7 year old loves Ello! He looks forward to reading, which has been a struggle. It doesn’t follow his voice as well as I wish, it expects him to read faster than he does, and it picks up background noise advancing to the next word(s). The videos at the end of each book are exciting for him. He does look forward to getting stars but that has fallen short when there are limited options to use the stars on. He gets discouraged when most clothing items are so far out of reach (etc. 1000 points).

Ello is an amazing tool for an emergent reader! It would be great for any child that is not able to read full chapter books without help yet. The option to click on any word and have it not just read to you, but sounded out and blended, is useful not only to help the child finish that book, but to actually teach them to sound out and read new words. We really enjoyed using the app, but had some issues with the instructional videos. The biggest issue was volume - no matter how high I turned my iPads volume we couldn't hear the video well and when the app came back on the sound was so high we would both jump. And I wish the videos weren't on YouTube, but actually in app. Might not be a realistic wish, but it would be nice. Overall it is a really great app and I believe it will help any child learn to read better.

So yesterday was the first time my son and I used Ello. And I say it was a hit with him. Hearing the app listen to him and at times ask questions was very cool. He loved the points he earns after completing a book. So much so he actually read 3 books in one sitting. This from a soon to be 7 year old, who dreads reading time. He's struggled with reading and sight words since pre-k. Because of some delays, he did not start speaking until months before the age of 4. He's already talking about finishing the next 3 to get more books. I love the videos and the end of books that relate to the stories. So, far we're off to a great start and I couldn't be more proud. I'll be sure to update.

So far, my daughter is loving Ello! She initiates her reading time on her own and was so proud of herself with the first book she was able to read on her own!!!!

My daughter really enjoyed this program. She felt comfortable using it on her own. She was always excited to show me how many stars she had earned and the new outfits she could unlocked! She loved the stories and wanted to read more often because of this app!

We were not sure how well Ello would work with our son. He was a little behind grade level before we started, but now he is reading between 2 and 3 book a day and is actually beginning to enjoy reading.

Sometimes my child is just talking and the app thinks he reading and we are not able to learn the words. Also the app kept freezing. I love the concept and will keep trying the site for a couple more weeks.

I love the idea. I just wish the app wasn’t so glitchy. It’s had my son read the same book 3 times for no credit and then gave him 2x credit for a book he read only once. Seems inconsistent with guidance. The elephant is glitchy when talking at time. I literally reset the tablet and bought a headset to make sure it wasn’t on our end—definitely the app. Would love to see updates happen. Not sure how long I’ll keep it.

I wish there was the ability to get more than 3 books a week. I love how the child can click words and it breaks it up and reviews the sounds to help in the future. I wish there were lessons almost on sounds or the AI picked up on letter sounds the child may be struggling with. Also, if there was something that the child was struggling with would stop and sound it out.

I think reading with Ello is good. A few things I think need improving is that every child learns to read differently so, maybe having a different way they can read the book with the app would be good maybe even making a game out of it. I also think maybe if the app hears the child struggling with a word the app will pull the word up and help the child sound it out. Just my idea for helping my child read with Ello. I know that my daughter learns better with games so, if I don't see an improvement in her reading I might have to find another game-like application that will help her read and improve her reading.

The first day we received our Ello box my daughter wanted to read 3 books. Most days I couldn’t get her to read one. She loves reading to our tablet and is so engaged the entire time. I’ve seen her reading skills grow so much in such a short period of time, I wish we started sooner.

The books that arrived were the correct level for my daughter, just hard enough to challenge her without getting too frustrated. She is very eager to earn points and prizes. The coloring pages were a cute addition and she enjoyed Ello’s response to texting her picture.

My almost 7 year old has struggled a bit with wanting to lean to read but LOVES to be read to and loves books. I’m not kidding when I say as soon as she played with this app she asked for more time on it! She is not a fan of the app they use at her school and I think it was discouraging her further. Now she has a new spark and I’m so grateful and excited!

I'm impressed with how much smoother my daughter reading has become in the few weeks she's been using Ello. It's so nice to have her reading to an impartial and positive voice. It's helped me learn how to respond when we're reading together. I've let up on making her sound out each word and tried to be more encouraging. She is eager to do the reading to earn more points. I feel like the reward system in Ello has so much potential. Having more outfits and accessories to choose from would help. My daughter was eager to earn her points, but was sad there weren't more options to choose from. It would also be nice if there was a higher limit on books so she was able to read 1-2 each day of the week before moving up. All-in-all Ello is fantastic, but I think it can be made even better!

I'm so happy with the decision to give Ello a try for my 7 yo with Dyslexia. Reading can be a struggle, but with Ello she's excited to grab a book. The rewards and praise keep her motivated, and she's already looking forward to her next box. Unfortunately my sweet girl is starting to struggle with academic self-confidence. Even when reading with loving and supportive adults he can become embarrassed and frustrated with herself. Ello allows her to read and dependently without any perceived judgment, and is working to build herself confidence. With continued use. I know her reading skills will strengthen but if all we ever got from the program was a boost in her self-confidence it would be worth every penny spent.

My 8 year old son can read pretty fast and earn stars pretty quickly but it took long time for my 5 year daughter to earn enough stars to buy the first couple of items available, which almost caused her to drop out of building Ello habit. We’d like it better if there are some more items available for fewer stars so that little slow readers can enjoy it and be kept motivated.
