Background: My wife and I are vulnerable adults - pensioners aged 74 and 75, respectively. Our heating failed on the morning of Saturday 10th December 2022 and, with the weather forecast showing an amber warning for low temperatures in our area, I looked for emergency help. Your website implied that your firm could supply such emergency help from a local expert. I expected something like the AA coming to rescue me when I'm stuck on a motorway. I had already diagnosed the fault and relayed that to your telephone help-person. She noted that I required a replacement head unit for a motorised diverter valve. The Visit: Two men came 60miles from Glasgow - (local?). They came into my house with only a handful of tools - screwdriver and pliers - no toolkit - no electrical diagnostic test meter that might be of use to test a motorised valve. They took the casing off my boiler, even although I had told them that the boiler was in perfect working order. They looked at the innards and agreed that it must be the diverter valve - just by looking! The Diverter Valve is not within the boiler casing!! Their attitude was off-hand, dismissive, and unsympathetic. They then put the casing back incorrectly. I had to point this out and ask them to put it back properly. At no time did they inspect the diverter valve or attempt any diagnosis related to the diverter valve. I'm not even convinced that they knew where the diverter valve might be, because they wanted some code off the boiler which would allow them to order the part. The valve is in the pipework and independent of the boiler and so they couldn't possibly know what part to order. I tried to explain that. I would have thought that any self-respecting heating engineer would have such a stock part on the van, or at least come with one as that was what they were being called to fix. They must have known that they couldn’t fix it without a part and that their journey was going to be in vain. Why bother coming 60 miles? Why not admit by phone that they couldn’t fix anything until the Monday morning? This was a rip-off! It certainly wasn’t the service that I was expecting for the money. So, they went away again without fixing the heating and with a vague promise that they could source the part on the Monday and return at some point to fix it. They also warned that the repair could take some time as they would have to drain the system. Replacing a motorised valve head does not require the pipework to be drained. It bolts on to the outside of the valve. I told them this. I was not impressed with their knowledge, skills, or service. Outcome: I received no emergency support from the service that I am being asked to pay £186 for. It is a piece of nonsense that I am being asked to pay for men coming to tell me the name of the fault that I had told to your telephone operative. No diagnosis was made by them! No repair was effected by them! They gave no emergency support.

My invoices as an engineer have not been paid and we will be over 70 days (their terms are 30 days). I suspect this company is now insolvent; if not, they are just scamming customers and engineers. Engineers are NOT vetted for suitability or qualifications. EGR will charge extortionate sums for very basic work that a local tradesperson could do for you. This company has also featured on BBC ROGUE TRADERS. Be warned. Do not give them your credit card details.

I contacted ERG in an emergency because we had a burst pipe with water pouring over the floor. They said an engineer would be with us within 4 hours. After 2 hours they phoned to say that they could not get an engineer. They had taken my card details when I first called then said they would charge £145 + VAT per hour plus materials. This is extremely expensive and certainly does not fit with the words on their website: "very competitive local rates". Luckily I was able to contact a local plumber who arrived in under one hour, replaced the burst pipe fitted a stop valve and only charged £95, so ERG's failure turned out to be blessing in disguise! After I made the call to ERG I discovered they are located in Southend-on-Sea which is hundreds of miles away from my location, although they appeared to be local when I did a Google search looking for help in a hurry. My best advice: avoid this company and look for a genuine quality local trades person to eliminate the unnecessary and excessive ERG handling charge.

We did one job for ERG and now 10 weeks later, we still have not been paid. Absolutely diabolical company. Our invoice to them is only £40 and we know for a fact they charged the customer £140. There should be a no star facility on this review site as ERG would be rated at 0. Shocking way to run a business. Total sham. Disgraceful

They have access to your bank card, so it doesn't matter if the job is done or not. They take the payment. Total scam or a company. Don't make the same mistakes I did. Shop local businesses. Now to contact Rogue traders.

Worse company ever. Avoid at all cost. Plumber came to our property. Said there is nothing wrong with boiler. We explained it keeps losing pressure. He said that the maker of the boiler should repair it, as it is still under warrantee. He said our fault we should have just called the manufacturer of the boiler. Phoned Erg, they still took money , as they have our bank details. Erg not very helpful to resolve the issue. It is a scam.

An engineer came to mend a boiler today seven hours later the fault happened again on contacting ERG. I rang customer services to complain and was treated as though it was my fault, however the caring call person said I should be glad that I got seven hours of use that cost 162pounds disgusting attitude.

Do not recommend! My partner and I recently called this company as our shower had stopped working. We were quoted £135 for someone to come out and fix the problem. After an electrician being at our property for 10 mins and leaving due not being able to carry out the work that day we were charged £162 and told we would be charged a further £180 should we wish to go ahead and get the problem fixed! I was wrongly told by one of their online advisors that the payment made of £162 would ‘be taken into consideration’ when we made our next booking. I was then told on the phone that was incorrect and shouldn’t have been told that. £162 to be told what we already knew was wrong with the shower. Ended up calling someone local and got it fixed for a fraction of the price they were asking. Please avoid!

Searched for a "locksmith near me (Wigtown, Cumbria)" and phoned one of the numbers. Spoke to a very helpful lady who assured me that someone would come to fix my problem before 3pm that same day - and took my card details! I later has a call (from SOUTHEND ON SEA!) saying that they couldn't "find an engineer". They are scam artists - and I concerned that they have my card details!

oh, my goodness. The reliability of this company could not be worse. The customers' toilets in my restaurant were blocked and we needed an emergent unblocking service. Found this company online and called them at 4:30pm. I was innitially relieved to be informed that they would send someone to sort this out at 7:00pm on the same day. No one turned up until 8pm so I called again and was told they could not do it today. I rebooked for the next day's service. Someone called me in the morning of the next day saying that they would turn up at my premises between 12:00pm-3:00pm. I arrived at the restaurant at 10am and had been waiting until 4pm, no one ever turned up for the job. I called again and was told by a lady staff to wait until 7pm. I was furious but calmed myself down and chose to believe her. What a fool I was! They let me down again! I called to find out what happened at 8pm and the same lady said no one could do the job today. I expressed my disappointment and anger and there was no apology. "You can either cancel or rebook for 10:00am tomorrow". She said indifferently. I gave the a last chance and of course no one showed up from this company. Fortunately, I found someone else who came for the job in two hours and solved the blockage. Do not use this company! They are the worst!

Unfortunately I'm a contractor who stupidly didn't look at reviews. Job going back to August, promised by end of November but nothing. Owed three invoices and they already have been paid by the client so they have my money. Terrible company will never do work for them again.

Boiler failed so no heating or hot water ERG said they would respond that day but did not show up or call. Promised to come the next day we but were still left freezing. Probably one of the worst and most expensive company's you could deal with

Really Bad!! Took the morning off work, for an appointment between 09.00 and 13.00. Must admit the Lady who took the call was very helpful. My job was a very simple electrical oven instalment. Should take 10 mins, because I knew this , I was aware that a lot of electricians would prefer a larger job. So I chose to use ERG, despite being almost twice the price, I just wanted the job done. Was called at 12.17 to ask if I could change the appointment to the afternoon, as previous job had overrun, OK, I said but as I have to return to work, can you give me a time? No was the answer, it would be between 13.00 and 17.00 … Now unless I’m missing something here, I’m the Customer, not the other way around… If I don’t go to work I don’t get paid. Imagine me calling my Boss.”Hi .. need extra time off.. the Electrical Guy is running late, can’t give me a time … Should be today…I’m sure you understand….!! REALLY.. I cancelled the appointment .. much to the surprise of the guy who’d called me. His surprise was almost like I’d cancelled a last minute Dr’s emergency appointment.. I subsequently contacted a local Electrician directly who has given me a one hour slot next week at half the price.. Just Saying.

DO NOT USE, absolute disgrace. Engineer booked to come out as I couldn't get the gas boiler to turn on & nobody local available on same day. So called engineer arrived & did exactly what I had already done & said told me it wouldn't turn on, you'll need to book another appointment & pay again to get someone out who can fix it as I can't. He rang his mate for advice & left promptly when challenged about his lack of ability to fix the problem. Total rip off - £162 for nothing!!

Engineer didnt turn up on day, ERG said admin glitch. Came next day, said new toilet needed then left, no attempt made to make even temporary stop to cistern inlet pipe leak. So no emergency help, had to solve it ourselves after all locally. Expensive charge for essentially nothing. Would not recommend.

Avoid this company. Person who answered the phone gave me completely incorrect information as I found out later. Based on what she did say I booked a site visit only to be told that exact opposite of what I had been told on the phone. For this I was charged £162. Complete and utter rip off. Will never use this company again.

The lady on the reception phone must be having a horrible day as her tone was extremely pointed, dismissive and to be frank quite condescending. Won't be using this service and judging by the other reviews it would seem like we've dodged a bullet!
