I work in one of the shops and it's a destroyer of a love of cycling, believe me! I'm horrified how nastily it treats its employees - even those who work on the front line. I love talking bikes all day, would love to work for a company that truly supports its local cycling community but am prevented from doing so by this shambolic company - a company that treats us like something smelly it's trodden in! Despite that, you'll get the best service we can muster as we care helluva lot more about our cycling community than this abysmal company does about us! :-(

Another unhappy customer. Returned a light to the shop due to an intermittent fault (ie it would not switch on!). Was told it would have to go back to the manufacturer for testing and may take 4-6 weeks. Went in 3 times to be told its still not back but be patient. We will let you know when we receive it. Today, after 4 months waiting, i get told it never actually went to the manufacturer and it works fine so warranty claim cancelled! WTF! Last time i shop there!

Booked bike in for service, took bike the night beforehand and called Evans at chilfactor to see when the bike would be ready. Called twice more told me they are busy and would get call to say when done. Now it's four days later still no call went to store still not done no apology nothing !! Totally uninterested staff.

Ordered a Bianchi and paid deposit only to be contacted a week later to be told the bike had been sold and it was the last one. Rubbish excuses offered and crap customer service. No resolution offered just o sorry bad luck you can always pay more money for a bike. Rude condescending patronising staff at Norwich. Never again.

Really really bad service! No staff, they all seem to be in the back. Never answer the phone. When I did get hold of them they said my bike would be ready the next morning, when I got to the shop they said it was nearly ready just needed about 20 mins. 1 hour later still no bike. While waiting in the shop people came and went without even seeing a member of staff. People asking me if I worked in the shop. Appalling ! Still need other items for my bike but will not be getting them from Evans cycles that's for sure!!

Had a terrible experience with Evans, went to look at a bike which had 30% off, the offer ended on June 2nd. Went in on June 2nd to buy the bike and the price had changed. I then called up the branch in Plymouth and asked again and was told again that the price has changed. So watch out if you see an offer in store, Evans work on their own special calendar. After writing a long complaint letter I am told that someone will be in touch within 7 business days! usual corporate response same old, clearly they hope after 7 business days you would have forgotten about their lies. I posted pictures of the prices on facebook and was told that they would allow me to buy the price at the origigional price, no real apology I don't think they really care certainly not in anyway wowed by the way my complaint has been handled. Wont be shopping at Evans Cylcles in the near future, watch out for their shady pricing people

NEVER BUY A BIKE FROM HERE The fact that I can't even ride a bike 200-300 metres down my street on its day of purchase is appalling. As I was turning the corner my handlebars slipped out of place and I could have been knocked over by a car. Absolutely appalled.

I bought a bike which developed a crack in the frame. After repeated attempts to call the Guildford shop (they don't answer the phone) I took the bike in and I was told that they would get a replacement frame. It never showed up, no-one ever contacted me. I would strongly advise against buying anything from these people. They seem to be very happy to take your money but if there's a problem you're on your own.

Absolutely appalling customer service. My son bought a cycle, he nearly had two bad accidents on it as there were faults on the bike. The back spokes were bent also. When we rang the store they said to bring the bike to them. When we explained that we couldn't get the bike to the store are we live 14 miles away they just said they couldn't help. We took the bike to halfords to get fixed and they said it was terrible that Evans sold us the bike in this state and that Evans should be fixing it for free. In desperation we rang Evans head office and they said that it wouldn't have been a problem them collecting the bike and fixing it. I asked why the store didn't suggest that and that the store were totally unhelpful and the head office said that I had no proof the store didn't help me. As it was outside the period of weeks where I can send the bike to get fixed, there was nothing they could do. My son is now having to pay to get the bike fixed somewhere else. I've read lots of terrible reviews about Evans and only wish I'd read them before we bought a bike from them.

Firstly I had to make a warranty claim which they refused to admit anything was wrong 3 times before I finally escalated it to the store manager and he finally agreed there was a fault and all of my brakes had to be replaced. I then took it in for a service and they charged me £50 for doing absolutely nothing, when I complained they just said they checked and it had been done but from the state my bike was in they hadn't done anything. I would avoid Evans cycles completely and go to a more professional chain, there are plenty of others.

Pretty difficult keeping this short but I'll go with this. I received a watch for my running which had a broken strap. I mean clearly and visibly torn! The box had obviously been opened and repackaged too. They were closed so I opted for twitter as I noticed they were posting tweets over the weekend. That's normally a sign of someone that cares about engaging with the customer. In short, I had to wait until Monday to call and was latterly chastised for airing my dissatisfaction using twitter (which incidentally I didn't but I did tell them what was wrong). The twelve year old lad with an attitude kept banging on about not understanding my frustration and couldn't tell he was exacerbating the mood and the situation and indeed missed the entire point. The watch had obviously and deliberately been sent out damaged and/or good enough for sale. You simply couldn't miss that it was damaged. Someone for that was ok. In the end the little oik made the whole experience far worse and I simply decided a refund would be best. To be fair, those that did engage via twitter were pretty good. The conversation I had on the Monday however, completely undermined that. Oh and the oik also claimed that their competitors also don't use twitter over the weekend and asked for examples. I thought "if you don't know, then you have a bigger problem that I thought" and he also claimed he was responsible for the social media side of things as he explained "that's not how you use twitter or what it's for". So not only did he balls it up for Evans on this occasion he also felt he was the gatekeeper for all things social media. The claim that companies offer great customer service is a great claim - it's a must for them to merely operate. To survive however, they absolutely must have great customer care. This fell well short. N.B. I had a quick look at their timeline last week and almost exactly the same thing happened to a chap that returned tyres as opened and used. Evans? They say "warehouse soiled". Needless to say he isn't going back either. Incidentally, this is the first time I've had to post a bad review in well over 2 years so it's not a habit I'm in :-)

Went to the Bath street shop in Glasgow for a flat tire, change the breaks and some other stuff... Lovely staff, very helpful and competent ! Had the feeling to leave with a brand new bike and not an empty wallet which was great ! Will definitely be back !!!

Took my bike into the Shoreditch store to have a look at my derailleur. Upon picking up my bike, I was told that the mechanic who fixed it had spent 15 minutes on it as it was a quick job. I got to the pay desk and saw that my back break wasn't working which was peculiar as it was fine before I took the bike in. I told one of the employees about this and what followed was an half an hour wait whilst they tried to figure out if I was fobbing them off and trying to get my brakes fixed for free. Not a great feeling standing around with mechanics facing away from you and discussing the possibility of you being a lying thief. They couldn't get through to the mechanic who fixed my bike so let me have the benefit of the doubt that my brake was working when it was brought in. HURAH, I was telling the truth! Was handed my invoice and saw that I was charged £10 for them to take out my inner tube and put in a new one. Plus £5 for a new inner tube. Now I can see that they do need to charge for labour but £10 just to take out an inner tube! The mechanic told me that at Cycle Surgery they would charge me £15 for that! Well you just did charge me £15 for that! At least I had my bike working again! Nope, twenty minutes into my commute the next morning the derailleur packed in. Took the bike back yesterday and another mechanic was having a look at the bike and said that there was a piece missing, (I found said piece back at my friend's house) so the mechanic who did the job in the first place didn't even realise there was a piece missing from my derailleur and managed to stop my brakes from working and I get charged £25 for this pleasure! Took my bike to another shop and paid £50 for the whole thing to be sorted out as due to the derailleur packing up during the commute I lost more pieces and had to pay for a new one. The last mechanic that I spoke to at Evans was very nice and apologised for the service that I had received. Just a shame that he didn't see my bike first. Will never go back there!
