“I enjoy travelling with Hull Trains as they offer inexpensive fares, relatively frequent trains and helpful and friendly staff. Furthermore, their trains have free WiFi and plenty of legroom.”
“The trains are fine, run OK and the staff generally polite and informative, though sometimes the train can be running late by up to 10 mins and no apology or explanation is made.
However major gripe is WiFi coverage on the line is terrible so much so it is not possible to work. This is at almost all points in the Hull - London trip which is quite unbelievable on the East Coat main line. Its so bad that it is a factor in taking the train.
Minor gripe as a regular business user the business support team have been pretty hard to communicate with, in every case a second prompt from me was required to receive a response. I've given up.”
“I regularly use Hull Trains to travel from Hull to London Kings Cross.
The seats have ample legroom that is comparable to First Class and are wide with movable arm rests. The tray table is also much larger than other operators and easily fit a laptop. There is also a power point in the wall next to each set of seats. Along with extra legroom and power points First Hull Trains also offer free WiFi to standard class. This is incredible value and something that once again is more aligned with a First Class offering on most operators!
There was no trolley service but the Café Bar is centrally located and the train is not very long. The range was limited with the choice of just three sandwiches as well as crisps and chocolate and other typical offering. To be brutally honest none of this was really appetising and the sandwiches looked particularly unappealing. We decided on the Meal Deal at £5.50 which is pretty pricey in my opinion.
The catering is a huge let-down for the service. I had a Chicken Sandwich that had the tiniest amount of salad and non existent chicken on very dry bread. Washed down with a bottle of pop and crisps I felt pretty ripped off with sub par food.
TO conclude the standard class is just a comfortable and accommodating as a First Class product without the free catering. The on bard catering is a huge let down for the service but this is not just common to First Hull Trains. The price and direct service I assume will be the biggest attraction to the service but for me it is extra legroom that is the highlight of service.”
“You have the best staff on any rail network. Carriages are not upto the standard of your competitors, particularly toilets (and they do get untidy and unpleasant odour) power point access for seat nearest aisle, and the catering is well below Virgin EC although your staff do brilliantly with only adequate facilities.”
“Because of a problem with the National rail website I ended up booking 3 identical return trips to Hull. Agreement that two would be reimbursed was dealt with pleasantly, politely and quickly.”
“The trains are much cleaner and it has made my journey a pleasant one. I particularly appreciated the free wifi which has allowed me to catch up with all my emails while travelling, Overall, I am happy with the services which are often of excellent quality by the friendly and helpful staff.”
“Hull trains offer a fast direct service between London and Hull which operates to schedule and offers a very high standard of customer service whilst booking and online.”
“Always efficient, comfortable and, more importantly, running to time on most occasions. The staff are always pleasant and willing to do anything to make the experience better.”
“I've traveled Hull Trains several time.
I do find Hull Trains much comfier than the VEC.
Occasionally the smell of the toilet transfers into the coach.
Staff are always polite and helpful.”
“I've used Hull Trains on numerous occasions and have never been let down by the service. Would always use Hull Trains ahead of any other service to travel to the capital of stations on their service line”
“I've had problems with on line purchases and had to ring direct. I would prefer to book and pay online.
The on board service is excellent but in recent times the 'snack box' in first class was short of acceptable. The sandwiches, coffee, tea etc is good. We would prefer a hot meal in first class but this seems to be phased out.
Overall the standards are very good and if you book 3 months in advance great value for money.”
“Friendly staff, nice clean trains, great service - although prices seem to have gone up the last yr or so and its more difficult to find cheaper tickets
Otherwise good though, better than grubby virgin trains . !”
“From hull to kings cross the service is brilliant. However from kings cross to hull the service is not good, there are no seats available to book and it is extremely crowded , me and my six year old daughter had to stand up for most of the journey. Also, the service from hull to Manchester picadelly is good.”
“I always travel with Hull Trains because they are direct from Hull, so no train changes. I can relax on my journey in comfort knowing a well stocked and reasonably priced buffet car has a great variety of snacks, food and drinks on offer. There is a quiet coach which i sometimes use after a very long day and tables in every carriage so i can work on my laptop and do paperwork saving me having to work once back home. I'd recommend Hull Trains to everyone from day trippers to those travelling on business and of course there is a 1st class carriage for that extra special care with fab food and plentiful drinks on offer along the whole of your journey.”
“Trains clean and tidy but always a tad cold - the aircon makes it too cool and I often find I've a mild headache from it and it makes the journey less comfortable. The service is timely even if the fact the British Rail Network makes it a pain if you miss a train in using another service!”
“Hull Trains is certainly one of the nicest ways of getting from London up to the North of England. Seats much more spacious than on East Coast and a great quiet coach. Also the friendliest train staff as a rule. Keep it up and see you over Xmas for the trip up to the family!”
