I have found a very good tutor, but I do think that the fee for the "introduction" (some £24.00) was quite high.

This was my first time using the website and I'm not sure I'd use it again. I have 2 children that I was looking for a tutor for and who both have slightly different needs. This was quite difficult to 'advertise' as the assumption on the website was that it was for 1 tutee, and I didn't want the additional hassle of trying to co-ordinate timings etc twice with different tutors. Also the description area of what I was looking for didn't allow me much space to elaborate. However, my main gripe with this site is that you don't have any actual contact with the tutor until you've signed up (paid the intro fee) so I guess they assume that if the qualifications, experience, availability and timings match then it's a done deal. I don't like this approach as I wanted to at least have a conversation before engaging someone not least to ensure that they came across as empathetic and could explain something in a way that I knew my children would understand - not all teachers suit all children - isn't that why I'm here looking for additional support! Because of this I'd have rated the website as 'Poor', however, I had a query which I sent through the website and which was answered within an hour so I've rated 'Average'.

Dear Sharon, Thank you for your feedback, this will of course be passed on. It unfortunately sounds as if your needs didn't quite match up with the way our site operates. We don't allow tutors to talk to prospective tutees prior to paying the introduction fee as many tutees wouldn't bother returning to the site to pay the fee once they had the tutor's details. We do of course understand this method of communication isn't suitable for everyone. If you have any further queries or any issues with your tutor do let us know. Kind regards, Grace Customer Service Team First Tutors

Not an easy site to navigate. Feels a bit dated. Having said that the response times and payment set up was quick and effecient and we have found ourselves a very nice piano teacher locally.

PROS: First tutors had a good way of advertising tutors so its easy to pick the type of tutor you think suits your needs as you get to speak wth them in a private chat CONS:I do think £15 is a bit much and kind of extortion for the fact that all your paying £15 pounds for is to find out the tutors email address and number, which I think since you are able to chat with the tutor as a customer this arrangement could be sorted out via exchange of info which is FREE instead of £15 fee on top of the money that has to be paid to the tutor. I think the charge should be cheaper for what your getting other than this the site isn't terrible I connected with a tutor so it will link others to.

Dear Shannon, Thank you for your feedback. The intro fee helps cover the costs of ID checks, reference collection, qualification verification etc. website administration etc. The fee ranges from 4.99 up to 24.99 so if you can only afford lessons at 10 pounds per hour for example we only charge a one off 4.99 fee. Best of luck with your new tutor, if you encounter any problems please do let us know. Kind regards Sara Customer Service Team First Tutors.

The site was OK to use, not very pretty to look at, but it worked and I found one tutor through it. I sent approx 5 messages to different tutors and sadly only one replied, which is who I have started to us. So a very poor response rate which I was really surprised about. Quite a lot of money for not a great looking website, but having said that I did get one of the two tutors I required through it.

Dear Claire, Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are sorry that not all of your tutors responded to your request. Tutors that do not respond within the 14 day time frame are removed from the website to make our search results relevant. We listen to our client feedback and are always improving the aesthetics of the website to make the user experience as pleasant as possible. Wishing you the best of luck with your tutors Kind Regards, Sarah First Tutors

I found the First Tutors website a little out of date to use compared to online shopping websites. For example navigation. However the steps to contacting tutors worked well eg sending and receiving enquiries. Also, once I had found a tutor, the website payment system was quick and releasing the tutor's details was immediate.

I would have preferred to contact the tutor directly as this is an expensive and unneccessary service.

If you have any problems with your tutor please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to help. Kind regards Sara First Tutors Customer Service

It was a useful website and process. I did feel once l got used to the key requirements, the process went smoothly. I did feel the requirement to unlock tutors was a barrier, to me using the website on a long term basis. It would be costly, if you had other request.

Dear Antoninette, Thank you for your feedback. The intro fee is per tutor's contact details although it is free to contact as m any tutors as you wish to discuss all tuition needs. If the tutor isn't suitable we ask that you leave feedback on the tutor's profile, we then offer another tutor at no further cost so there isn't a risk of losing money if you are not satisfied with the tutor. We wish you the best of luck with your new tutor. Kind regards Sara Customer Service Team First Tutors.

I think your fees are high. You stated the fees between £4.99 to £24.99 but I was charged the maximum of this range it would nice if your forthcoming with fees in advance. Otherwise good service to link with tutors.

Dear Emad, Thank you for your feedback. The introduction fees are based on the tutor's hourly rate so for example if you can afford 10 pounds per hour for tuition we only charge 4.99. The higher you are willing to pay for the tutor's hourly rate the higher the intro fee. These fees help cover the costs of reference collection, qualification collection, ID checks etc. If you have any problems with your tutor please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to help. Best of luck with your new tutor Sara Customer Service Team First Tutors.

Good to know that this resource is available. However it is expensive! Also far too many emails. Not allowing the learner access to the tutor is also very frustrating - I want to know more about the tutor - their personality etc which can only be derived through conversation

Dear Cheryl, Thank you for your feedback. The intro fee helps cover costs of ID checks, reference and qualification collection etc. Our fees start at little as 4.99 but the price is based on the tutor's hourly rate so that it is affordable to most people. Regarding the not having access to the tutor I'm not too sure what you mean because you can discuss your tuition needs with the tutor via the private message forum and ask as many questions as needed. Tutors also have feedback on their profiles left by previous FT clients which is a good indication of quality and satisfaction in general. We wish you the best of luck with your new tutor but if you should encounter any problems please don't hesitate to contact us, we are here to help! Kind regards Sara Customer Service Team First Tutors.

It took us a while to realise that we could clarify charges etc. with the tutor before booking, as it looked like we had to pay First Tutors first, and then make contact. I think this could be made clearer, as we very nearly didn't take it any further.

I found the site quite confusing to negotiate. I rang and spoke to a women who made me feel slightly stupid when l told her l was having problems understanding how to go about getting a tutor for my son. Almost gave up on the site when a polite young man named David replied and said he would tutor my son! People who run these sites need to understand that not everyone is totally computer literate and that talking to customers in a condescending manner is very off putting...

It took a long time to resolve my initial enquiry as all communication was via email and what I needed was to speak to someone. Therefore an assumption was made which meant me having to go through the whole registration process 3 times!! Not good!! Please can this be a consideration in the future as not everyone wants pure online communication - sometimes a human is required as would have been resolved far quicker and mistakes would not haven been made! Once we got through that finding a tutor and contacting them was quick and easy.

It helps cover our security checks on all tutors and safety on the site to ensure peace of mind to tutees and their parents/guardians. If you would like any further information please do contact us.
