Very high fees just for contact details, maybe the site would be more successful and get more customers if it was. More reasonably priced

Dear Gemma, Thank you for your feedback. The intro fee helps cover the costs of ID checks, reference collection, qualification verification etc. which gives parents and students peace of mind. The fee is directly related to the cost per hour of tuition a tutor charges and unlike other tuition sites there are no further fees to pay. If you have any further queries do email us. Kind regards, Grace Customer Service First Tutors

The service was OK - there seemed a reasonable range of tutors, although most had few reviews so we were making decisions on just a few comments. the 7-day shut-down of communications with a prospective tutor was inconvenient - especially when the tutor was taking 2 days to respond to messages/questions. The site was sometimes confusing and difficult to navigate - on our second 'advert' we ended up sending messages to 5 tutors when we thought we'd selected one. I am sure that was our fault, but the site could be clearer we think. We were charged £24.95 for finding a first tutor - which we felt to be a little expensive - £15 would have been good value, £20 OK

Overall I was able to successfully use the website to get a dance tutor, however I did find the website both confused and confusing. If it was simplified with questions like "do you want a dance tutor now, yes or no"?, with the option to click on the answer to take you to the next stage rather than the more complicated way you site accepts commands I feel it would be better

I found the process of choosing and arranging a tutor too impersonal and long-winded. No problems with the tutor once I find one near enough to me. A lot depends on your location. Dundee is very short of tutors and it is very difficult to find experienced tutors prepared to travel to the student. I would be better if tutors could apply for advanced disclosure through the site.

Site was reasonably easy to use with sufficent information and references on most of the potential tutors . The process for contacting the tutors and communicating with them was tedious and then one has to pay for the contact information . It was a last resort to use the site because of this .

Dear Ernest, Thank you for your feedback. The intro fee helps cover the costs of ID checks, reference collection, qualification verification etc. which gives parents and students peace of mind. The feedback on tutor profiles from previous clients gives a good indication regarding quality/satisfaction of a tutor but if you are not satisfied with the tutor we ask that you leave feedback on their profile expressing your disappointment, we then offer you another tutor at no further cost. Kind regards, Grace Customer Service First Tutors

The first tutor I engaged had to leave after four sessions and I was obliged to find an alternative, which I did quickly and successfully. I resented, however, having to pay again for the replacement's contact details.

It was very easy to set up. The only difficulty for me is too few tutors within a 30 mile radius & also only 1 would travel. I would happily pay for their transport cost

I have used First Tutors three times in the past year. I am aged 66 and study spanish as an "adult/casual learner" I have had an issue recently and wish to make the following suggestions: Advice to tutors: ensure you terms and conditions are shown on your profile, or, if not, advise potential students of your T&Cs BEFORE they pay the engagement fee. Advice to students: check the tutor's terms and conditions BEFORE paying the engagement fee or risk finding T&Cs are unnacceptable after you have made payment. Thank you, David Halliday

i have no comments as i really had no interaction with first tutors - it was just a matter of negotiating the website ; selecting a tutor and then paying

I found the messages system quite cumbersome and it was difficult to understand who was supposed to do what (myself or Yeng) in order we could make an initial appointment.

It is a good web site for listing tutors, but having to pay £19 before you can speak to a tutor, then a fee for the first lesson is very expensive. I've had this experience twice now, where I've spent the £19 to release details, arranged a first visit (which means paying for the lesson) for it clearly not going to work. The student needs to feel confident and comfortable to continue and its an expensive introduction. It would be fairer if at least the first visit was free to see if the student felt at ease with the tutor and wanted to continue.

Making people pay £20 for information is disgraceful, and the website needs a massive improvement.

Dear Connor, Thank you for your feedback. I'm afraid that we need to cover the costs of ID checks, reference checking, cloud space for tutor qualifications to be verified, just to name just a few. You can contact as many tutors as you wish for free and discuss all tuition needs via the member's area, we only charge when and if you choose to go ahead with the tutor. There is also an advanced search tool so that if you can only afford tuition at 10 pounds per hour you will only pay the low rate of 4.99 as intro fee. We wish you the best of luck with your new tutor. If you experience any problems with the tutor please do not hesitate to contact us via email. Kind regards Sara Customer Service Team First Tutors.

Dear Ettore, Thank you for your feedback. It is free to contact as many tutors as you wish via our website in the private member's area. Here you can ask them all the questions you wish about their qualifications and suitability. Only once you have both agreed to tuition do you need to purchase their details. If you have any further questions do contact customer service. Kind regards, Grace Customer service First Tutors

The tutor and service I found from the site were great. However, I had to pay the site £20 to 'unlock' the details of my tutor e.g. Address, phone number etc. Even when we were messaging she gave me her address so I could see how close it was to my child's school, it was removed from the site for violating their terms and conditions.

Dear Angharad, Thank you for your feedback, we do appreciate it. Tutors on our site vary in cost between £4.99 and £19.99. The cost helps us cover security checks for all our tutors to ensure utmost safety on our site. I'm afraid if we did let you and the tutor exchange contact details prior to payment, very few tutees would go through with payment and therefore we could not exist as a site. I am sure you understand. Kind regards, Grace Customer Service First Tutors.
