DO NOT BUY IT. This system Is worst than the scammers online. Quite possibly the worst black box out there. Previously used RAC black box and score was in the high 80s average for year. Installed this and drove 3 miles to work and every corner and roundabout said I was hard breaking. Bearing in mind all other scores braking, speeding and acceleration were 100%. The map showed I pulled a u turn on a round about junction and drive in the wrong side of the road. Shocking system incorrect displayed 34% after 1 journey. Called up to complain as see if can get rectified and the staff could not care less and say it reads true. I have cancelled as it’s concerns me if you register 30 they auto cancel. Picture is journey over a roundabout into a Svs station for fuel hard cornering I think not. Do not use stay away

I’m sixty three years old, a steady and considerate driver, and have no need to drive fast or erratically at my time of life. I chose Hastings Direct purely because of the savings if I installed the Telematics. I survived just five days before cancelling the policy. My score was deducted because, according to the app, I was doing 60mph on a piece of dual carriageway that the app claimed has a speed limit of 50mph. I use this dual carriageway virtually every other day ! I provided evidence from The Road Traffic Act / Highways England that the speed limit is 60mph, but Hastings still didn’t believe me. Trust me, don’t put yourself through the stress of driving on eggshells all the time; if anything it can make your driving a lot less safer for everyone, including other drivers. Do yourself a favour; pay out the extra for a policy that doesn’t have Big Brother watching you 24/7, relax and enjoy driving your car.

If i could give this company 0 stars i would . In fact it’s not even deserving of that. Today they have have cancelled my policy with 2 weeks to go till renewal. I’ve been driving two years and never had an issue with my previous insurance, in fact i used to get perfect scores! All year my driving has been marked highly, and ironically towards the beginning of the year i did lots more driving to university and back. However, recently i’ve done far less driving yet with two weeks to go, my score has dropped considerably and the policy has been cancelled. It says this is for harsh breaking but would they rather me run over something or someone than break? I find it suspicious that it is now that they choose to cancel my policy when the price going into the third year would probably have been much cheaper and a loss for them! I am not surprised to read other, similar reviews of this company. I am absolutely disgusted considering I am a young and very sensible driver who has never had an accident of any kind. I will never use this company again and I would warn others against it.

Black box far from accurate Used to be a bus driver and same problems If you have a brand new vehicle you have a lot more chance of better score! No truth what so ever to these trials!! Technology is not this far advanced yet for this!!

I got my son insurance with Hastings Direct with black box his score was over 50 but than he hasn't driven for over a week and they say his score has gone to 1 how can that be and cancelling his insurance. Definitely money m making scheme. When speaking to them and explained they wouldn't over turn the decision to cancel his insurance.

Not accurate at all if you go over a speed hump it says you breaking too hard If you’re going into your house and check your emails, it says that you are using your phone when driving Had to go out and buy my son an iPad because he is not allowed use my phone when driving

Terrible . this is my daughters 2nd year of driving with a black box her 1st year was with a different company and the majority of her driving was classed as a gold driver , however within a few days of being insured with Hastings her driving was averaging 15-19/100 i even went on a drive with her and it was a pretty perfect drive and she scored 19 😳 Eventually they wrote to her telling her they would be cancelling her insurance , but she cancelled it first . Disgusting and should not be allowed

DO NOT TAKE out you drive with Hastings. The ‘tab’ is not accurate! Terrible customer service! Cancelled my sons insurance due to low score then sent a direct debit charge! Just a money making insurance for young drivers! STAY AWAY

Disgusting company. tech does not work well, only sporadically records journeys. We contacted them on a number of occasions to sort then, out of the blue, they cancelled my daughters insurance via email. Hastings direct refused to engage after this, stating that although it seems ridiculous it is their policy. The problem is the tech, it is woeful. I am seeking legal advice. Might be cheaper but AVOID at all cost.

Just cancelled ours after 1 month and taking a £1000 from us As box shows phone usage - you are not allowed they say to change your music or use google maps !! Happy to sell insurance on a 58 plate fiesta which doesn’t have Bluetooth or steering controls Do I need to return this accurate highly engineered box back ? No just throw it away - a tin of sardines would be more accurate This box can track your braking cornering acceleration and touching the screen of your phone Scam

I have had this for 3 months now and I have to be honest I think it’s great am 37 when I brought my new car my insurance quotes was stupid then this came up saved me 400 quid to be honest I was sceptical at 1st as drive up and down the motorway each day for work am still on 94 points out of 100 so I don’t think that is bad at all if it makes my insurance cheaper next yr I wud be happy to carry on with it

Second day in and already I'm stressed. First 12 journey perfect. Then travel into Doncster says I need to avoid breaking hard. Where this happened I'm clueless. Then I get marked down for breaking hard on the return journey. 7 points gone for what. Seems to me I've been drawn in to cheaper insurance at the expense of happy motoring. At this rate I wont have any points left in no time at all.

So far, one month into this insurance package, I have a 100% score, so I guess my driving is acceptable! The policy saved me around £500 on the quoted annual review, that, I think, is a fair reduction for good driving I am 66 and have many years of experience, so if people of my era complain, I guess they are doing something wrong!

Black box is just not reflective of my driving. I drive a hybrid car and am very steady when I drive to stay on electric fuel. However 2 weeks in and score is low and the Hastings App is stating issues with braking and turning corners to fast. It just never happens so unless you are driving a car that has a 1 Ltr engine stay away from this insurance.

The concept is good but the GPS cannot detect slowing down for a dozen speed bumps. Last week it told me I was taking roundabouts too quick. It was 8am in the morning all the roundabouts were stacked. Lucky if I got past 10MPH. It also assumes that yiou drive a fiat 500 or Hyundai i10 that accelerates like a sloth climbing a tree. My cat accelerates with your foot hardly down. It’s just another big brother gimic. No my fault accidents on the road on 33 years and no pointd

Very easy to use and install. I have a healthy score despite making one of two minor braking errors, and even if it does occasionally make a mistake (as others have noted) if you don't drive like a lunatic in time the score adjusts back up quite quickly. I assume speeding only kicks in if you go above 70mph - haven't gone out of town yet...

I think the black box is far too sensitive. I won't renew with them as I feel they are taking advantage of people. My concern is, and it is demonstrated by a lot of the comments is that as an insurance company they are going to hide behind the statistics. The data tells us this and the data tells us that. This is very dangerous ground as a consumer to be hearing.

My insurance was cancelled because my score dropped below 30, but here’s the weird thing. The black box was extremely over sensitive, marking me down for taking corners too fast when i definitely was not, even marked me down when i emergancy stopped because it was either that or a head on collision?? and here’s the even weirder part- the year before i was insured with another company black box and no issues. after cancelling my hastings policy i’ve gone with another company which tells me im a “gold driver”. so im struggling to understand how hastings thinks im such an awful driver, if two other telematics boxes have told me im a great driver? honestly would not recommend this company to anyone if you’re looking for a black box policy. it’s just a money grab. only thing i have good to say about them is how easy it was to cancel my insurance before they cancelled it themselves

The drive app useing the Tab is rubbish works when it feels like when u pulling away from junction to busy main road it say on hard acceleration and when u stopping to give away on coming traffic says harsh braking which gives u bad score.

As of yet ive not had many problems , i do think that they want you to cause an accident by driving slow eeverywhere , ive now installed another drivescore app to compare with hastings if a time comes that they mess me about , im a hgv driver so this registers me all day everyday so i should have a conflicting case if they try to play the game
