I lost £17k with an RAC Car History… I lost £17k with an RAC Car History Check.. Its worthless !! and the treatment I received from the RAC was disgraceful! They had even used a TV personality on their website to advertise the Car Check. It was unauthorised and the TV personality told them to remove it. The vehicle turned out to be a Clone which despite the car check asking you to enter the VIN numbers etc to check it wasnt a clone, in the small print T&C's it does not cover clones. The T&C's link was broken and not available at the time or for months and months after. The trading standards said the Car Check is a worthless product. Many others like me have lost thousands from the RAC Car History Check. Never use the RAC they are a disgraceful outfit !!! They even told the Financial Ombudsman that it wasnt an insurance despite the receipt saying it was an insurance. they claimed they sent the wrong receipt. I hope the RAC go bankrupt during the pandemic.

My advice to anyone thinking of insuring your car with the rac is don’t! I phoned to make an inquiry about my car being fixed after I had an accident (no other car was involved .) I then had my car fixed a few months later when I could afford the access. I informed them about this they gave me a quote then when money came out of my account it had doubled, when I asked why they held against me the inquiry! Now I’m paying double the insurance £136! Disgusting

Well we switched from Hastings who were brilliant to RAC. Having looked around. We put all our data into the comparison web site correctly then a week later received a letter saying we had not declared an accident I caused and they were upping the price from the original quote of £263 by £160. Throwing in "IF YOU DON'T PAY THE THE DEBT COLLECTORS WILL BE ROUND, KNOCK YOUR DOOR DOWN AND YOUR CREDIT SCORE WILL MEAN YOU'LL NEVER BORROW AGAIN DO PAY IT!!!" Asked where they had received this information about me driving and causing an accident well apparently my last insurer Hastings had given it. Spoke to Hastings who said no you weren't driving and the third party admitted liability. So back on the phone to RAC saying Hastings happy to talk to them but apparently RAC don't do that. So we have an open claim with Hastings but as open RAC say they treat all open claims as both parties at fault. When I asked about the return of the £160 RAC said probably well, "Just depends" whether we feel like it or not as we constantly review rates.. So their letter says £55.00 cancellation fee which is illegal of cough up as the DEBT COLLECTORS would be knocking the door down. Then the final stab In the back the gleeful comment "Your policy will go up regardless of fault anyway ". AVOID AT ALL COSTS OR YOUR DOOR MAY BE KNOCKED DOWN BY DEBT COLLECTORS when it's their fault not yours !!! Please God save me from any more "valid" RAC Premium Increases. Have sent the CUE details to try and have the fact I was not driving (shielding) and third party admission but doubt anything will change but I do feel slightly better copying and pasting this to EVERY review website. NEVER, EVER USE RAC !!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you actually train your "Customer Service Advisors" or employ HMP inmates ? HAHA just received a reply from the Cara at the RAC telling me to fill out their complaint form - hmm, as I already have filled it out I can see me doing this everyday - groundhog day again. Why have the RAC been booteed off Feefo ?

Not happy Was told up to 90 mins when I called. After 120 mins they texted someone is on the way but then followed another msg saying delayed by 30 mins because of delay in previous job. After 30 mins they send another text message saying because of covid there are delays. It seems like every company is using covid as an excuse for their slow and bad service

This has to be the worst ever breakdown company. They lie about times for recovery and dont even inform you that their call out times are taking 5-6 hours for a call out. I was only told this after complaining to the 3rd advisor about having to wait over 2 hours that the recovery times are 5-6 hours. And the 3rd advisor said they were having to send a private company out to repair a flat tyre because they dont have anyone in the area even though im broken down in a town centre high street. She informed me that it would be another 50 minutes at least, so i rang back up 30 minutes later and the person on the phone this time couldn't give me a time for the recovery truck to turn up so this shows their advisors lie because he couldn't provide me with a recovery time. And to top this im classed as a medical emergency because of my medical issues and mobility which they are fully aware of due to my issuance being through motorbility. I finally after 3 hours waiting the private recovery company McAms rang me and informed me that their breakdown truck would take another 90 minutes at least and they couldn't take me home and i would have to get a taxi home and the recovery truck would bring my car 20 miles to my home address. What a awful experience from RAC. Their advertised times state that "4 out of 5 customers are repaired at the roadside within 30 minutes" WHAT A JOKE. i must be the 5th customer. DO NOT TAKE OUT A POLICY WITH RAC or you will regret it.

1) Low scores are not representative of driving; the maps the box uses as reference for speed limits has many out of date speed limits. To keep a good score, you would have to drive much lower than the legal speed limit on some roads (e.g. road is 50 mph, and the box wants you to drive at 30 mph, and you have people shouting at you because you can't drive any faster). If you constantly obey the law and disobey the false data used by the box, you will be issued warnings and could lose your insurance, making future insurance policies extremely expensive. 2) Customer service is disgusting. When you present proof of erroneous data by the box, you will be dismissed, laughed on, or told improve your driving or f*ck off in a polite way. Your driving could be perfect and you have all the proof that the error is from the box, but the reps are condescending and rude. You will never be able to dispute low scores no matter what proof you have, and you will be constantly threatened with cancellation and permanent damage to your insurance record. 3) If you live in unfortunate area where data used by Rac are poor, your car will be impossible to drive if you hope to keep your insurance, and Rac will not care no matter how much you complain. If you live in a city area, your score will always be low because they don't want you to drive in urban areas. If you need to drive at night, your score will also always be very low. 4) If you think you can put up with all of this for a discount at the end, you would be wrong. I maintained a score above 95 with Rac Black Box tolerating wrong data and shouts from other drivers asking me to drive the correct speed limit, and it was the worst year for driving I have ever had, Rac mad driving expensive. At the end, I got a discount of 20 pounds. Not worth two sh*ts. Don't bother unless you like being in pain. If you hate someone, recommend Rac Black Box to them.

Somebody broke into my car broke the passenger side window and stole my radio they covered only the window but just for that, they took two of my no claim bonus. Completely useless. Avoid them if you can

Had a car insurance quote that was 25% higher than last year. I have chosen another company at a lower price than last year with the price fixed for 3 years.

I have just contacted RAC and asked for a refund today (23/1/21) My husband is over 70 and was locked down for many months, retired and has used the car to travel just over 1000 miles since we took out the policy with them (20/4/20). I am also a key worker and work part time in a local school (and have worked all the way through the Pandemic) We were quoted for 5999 miles when I took out the policy. They have refused any refunds point blankly claiming that they are not increasing other key worker policies when they should! They offered to requote at 2000 miles which they did but it did not make ANY difference to my premium!! The chat line miraculously got cut off three times too with a ridiculous waiting time to reconnect...funny that! Our daughter has had 3 refunds totalling £75 automatically from Admiral!!!! Why are some companies ridiculously unfair? I will not be renewing my Policy with RAC needless to say.

With rac you are guilty until you prove your own innocence, you have a no blame claim where the underwriters give you proof that your no claims and excess are not affected, but rac do not accept this they just drag their heels only interested in getting your money after hours on phone, stress level through the roof, contact all other parties very satisfied with their response rac basically pass the buck with claims and customer Support refusing to engage with each other resulting in me having to pay treble yearly premiums because rac cannot be bothered to do their job with the excuse we are only the brokers, like I said Lv,/Highway could not have been more helpful rac should stand for rotten and callous.

I would rate it 0 stars if I could! RAC insurance is awful. With a black box I got bad scores for a whole year when my driving was fine, I drove extra careful and still my score didn’t go up, you can’t win with this black box. Thankfully onto a better company now I wouldn’t be able to stand another minute with this company

Month after purchasing insurance from Rac I changed reg plate for private. On the phone customer representative told me because I have policy just for a month he will change it for free. 5 months later letter from insurance database MID came saying that my car is not insured. Checked policy and he didn't change reg plate as requested... After changing it online they charged me £80 for change and premium increased by 5pounds/month(yes, just for a private plate!) . I decided to cancel policy what took me 4 phone calls and over an hour as advisors are hanging up... and guess what, £55 for early cancellation. Avoid.

Generally good, but had some problems with login to self service online account. Also the black box telematics device was counting negative points on acceleration although my car has automatic transmission, and city and night driving which was not much practical, as I was driving mostly through city centre and working late so had to driving at night.

I took out a car insurance policy in December with RAC, however before the policy had started I had an accident and wrote off my car. Phoned on the day of the accident to tell them I may not need the policy, and was told there would be no charge provided I cancelled it prior to the policy actually starting. When I phoned just before the policy was due to end I spoke to someone called Wayne. He incorrectly insisted I would have to pay £55 because the following off period started as soon as I received the documents, not when the policy started. This is not true. I felt like I was being coerced into paying it, but queried why I had been told otherwise by another member of the team previously. He then claimed it would only be £25, but in his own words said “if it was up to me, I would charge you £55. The computer is being nice“ There was absolutely no customer service, and generally a terrible attitude from him. When I asked to review why I had been told otherwise and listen to the previous call recording, he then suddenly started to backtrack. He then decided I wouldn’t need to pay anything at all, and he could process the refund for my deposit right away. I asked to escalate the matter, as I felt if he was trying this with me, then he has clearly tried it with other customers who may have ended up paying a fee that they weren’t obliged to. His actions felt dishonest and unethical. After having a serious accident and having to deal with the challenging situation of replacing the vehicle etc, speaking to someone who was as breathtakingly rude as he was, was the last thing anyone would need. Based on my experiences I would never recommend RAC car insurance to anyone else, nor will I use it in the future. I did make a complaint about what had happened, however I have little faith in them actually doing anything about it.

Terrible customer service and useless at keeping me as a customer updated on what was happening with my policy. Numerous times they sent me cancellation emails for me to call up then they say it was a mistake.

Just awful. Cancellation process very difficult and protracted. Did not make clear that an outstanding payment was due, and great trouble following this up and sorting it out. Do not use!
