Overall: Enjoyed this property two years in a row. Love the Bastille area. Enjoyed Most: Close proximity to market, grocery store, cafes, and metro. Enjoyed Least: Smokers taking break at nearby restaurant (Bofinger's) sitting on stoop under window of property. Bombarded with cigarette smoke several times a day. Surrounding Area: Right across the street from Bastille monument. Thursday and Sunday markets. Lot of activity and celebrations such as Gay Pride and Music fest. Frequenting local cafes. Not too touristy. Loved the local flavor. Tips or Restaurants: Bring electrical converters. Learn how to use the washer/dryer combination in apartment or find close by laundromat. Good Pakistani restaurant we frequented on Rue de la Roquette - Restaurant Taj. Check In Out: Excellent greeting. Thorough review of property. Very pleased.

Overall: We really enjoyed this property on Santorini very much! Enjoyed Most: We loved how quiet and secluded we were with our own private pool. Enjoyed Least: The bathroom was a little dark, not much light available. Don't get me wrong I "loved" the bathroom, it was very unique but at times a little dark especially for a lady putting her make-up on. Surrounding Area: We loved that this property wasn't in the busy town of Fira. It was about 10 minutes, maybe, away. The little town we stayed in, Megalochori, was quiet and peaceful. Within walking distance were several choice restaurants. All just our speed. Nearby Events or Locales: We were actually in the heart of a very small town, Megalochori, Santorini. Yes, it was within walking distance. If you wanted to visit the more popular, scenic, incredibly busy Fira it was about a 10 minute drive with parking pretty close. You park but then walk the rest of the way into town. Tips or Restaurants: Everything was great! You don't need to reserve a car as they provide one with the rental of the villa. The best restaurant we enjoyed on this island was "RAKI." It was actually owned by the manager of the property. We ended up eating at his restaurant the first and fourth (final) evenings. Very delicious! Directions: We were met at the airport and driven to our rental property. We were given a map which was very helpful to get around the island and find towns, beaches etc. Again, we also had my cell phone GPS if needed. Check In Out: No, the manager was very thorough, pleasant, and answered all of our questions. Service was exceptional.

Overall: The villa was beautiful and very well-maintained. I really enjoyed my experience there. Enjoyed Most: The view and Matteo's delicious cooking. Enjoyed Least: The Internet connection. Surrounding Area: The hiking trails, the water, the food. Nearby Events or Locales: San Siro. Yes. Tips or Restaurants: Ask Matteo to make eggplant parmigiano. YUM!

Overall: We had a great time. Enjoyed Most: The back yard and pool. Enjoyed Least: There is construction on the buildings very close to the property. Surrounding Area: It's located in the countryside and is very beautiful. Nearby Events or Locales: Empoli, but not walking distance. Directions: We used GPS.

Overall: Overall it was relaxing and certainly lived up to expectations. Enjoyed Most: Privacy and relaxing atmosphere and also the overall charm of the exquisitely restored building. Enjoyed Least: Unfortunately we had problems with the beautiful pool as the amount of chlorine caused excessive stinging of the eyes. There were a couple of broken pool chairs, as well. We mentioned both issues to the owner. He gave us a small discount on the electricity bill since we were unable to use the pool. Editor's Note: The owner confirmed that the automatic chlorinator malfunctioned, and it has been replaced. For the 2014 season, all outside furniture and BBQ will be replaced. Surrounding Area: The views, privacy and relaxing atmosphere, great walks. Nearby Events or Locales: Not within walking distance so; we had to drive in.

Overall: Good - felt we were well attended to and found the villa to be clean and generally in good repair. Enjoyed Most: Peace and quiet. The outside area was spacious and interesting. The outside seating areas were comfortable and fostered opportunities to visit and be together while still enjoying the view. Enjoyed Least: The air conditioners were not working. Since we are from Texas, we are used to sleeping in a cooler bedroom. The lack of A/C caused problems sleeping for several in our group. Surrounding Area: The town had plenty of restaurants, shopping and night life. We loved the island across from the villa. Nearby Events or Locales: Ona Mera; It was not within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: Make sure you're not needing Wifi access. The road to the villa is truly meant for 4-wheel drive vehicles - but was worth the drive to be on the water and away from all the people. Loved the privacy and the peace and quite. Beautiful! Directions: You would truly have to be led to this property. But once led there once, we had no issues with finding it again. Check In Out: Effie and Angelo did a great job at making sure we were comfortable - even escorting us to the market and bakery. Very easy process! They went over and above and we appreciated it!

Overall: We LOVED Villa Fontana! The villa was perfect for our group of 4 adults and 4 teenage girls. The weather was beautiful and we spent almost all of our time at the outside tables or by the pool. The location of the villa was ideal for day excursions to Cortona, Assisi, Pienza and Montepulciano. We were also very close to Siena but ran out of time! We loved having the opportunity to relax at the villa between excursions. Stefania, the property manager, was extremely helpful with getting us situated and telling us about local markets, restaurants, shopping, parking, etc. Because of her, we discovered some nice little local gems including the adorable lakeside town of Passignano. Stefania also runs a local vineyard, so she invited us for a tour and a wine and olive oil tasting--it was so much fun. The area felt very safe and we felt comfortable leaving our teenage girls while we adults went out for dinner. Enjoyed Most: The location of the villa and view were amazing! The villa itself was clean and well-maintained but still had that rustic feeling. The pool was beautiful--very large with an infinity edge all around. The pool had plenty of very comfortable lounge chairs with shades. Everyone enjoyed reading poolside and swimming, especially after a long day of touring. The adults enjoyed playing cards and drinking wine under the shaded patio. Enjoyed Least: The washing machine was very small and there was no dryer. Also, the shower stalls were very small and it was a challenge to take a shower without soaking the entire bathroom. Surrounding Area: We loved being centrally located near some key sightseeing areas but also being remote enough that we felt like "locals". Through Stefania, the property manager, we were able to find great markets, shops and pizza and sandwich shops that were geared towards locals. Stefania even wrote out what we should order at one place! Nearby Events or Locales: There was no town that was within walking distance. The nearest grocery stores, pizza, sandwich shop were less than 10 minutes by car in Tuoro or Camucia. We could be in Cortona or Passignano for a nice meal in around 15 minutes. Tips or Restaurants: Stefania was the best resource for local information! She spent quite a bit of time with us when we arrived drawing maps and answering questions. She even made dinner reservations for us one evening. We also booked a meal to be prepared in the villa and a wine tour through www.theenthusiastictraveler.com. I worked with Doumina who runs the company and she was very helpful and responsive. The meal was AMAZING. The chef and also our tour guide (Stefi) was so much fun and the food was the best we have ever had. I would suggest future guests bring beach towels for the pool. Directions: The directions were not helpful; the owner said she would have to send new ones to RentVillas for future renters. This was probably the most frustrating aspect. I will say that the local RentVillas rep and the property manager were easily reached by cell phone and worked together to finally get us to our destination Check In Out: Very smooth.

Overall: A lovely villa. Overall a good experience. Enjoyed Most: Location, view, pool. Enjoyed Least: Noisy fridge, gates didn't work (they had to order a part), so we had to manually open and close them. Poor WiFi. Surrounding Area: Some great food, views and small towns. Tips or Restaurants: Bring or buy bug spray (no screens).

Overall: We could not have asked for a better experience. The setting is breathtaking and relaxing. The owners were extremely accommodating and very friendly. They were always very willing to provide suggestions and directions when asked. It was an absolutely perfect week. Enjoyed Most: We enjoyed the remote location, allowing us to truly relax and enjoy the surroundings. While remote you were never more than a short drive to a village, small town, or city. Surrounding Area: The countryside and the scents of the region. The jasmine was in full bloom and intoxicating. A smell I will remember for a long time. The people were very friendly. Nearby Events or Locales: San Polo. It was not within walking distance but just a short ride by car. Tips or Restaurants: We ate at the restaurant on sight at the villa and had a fabulous meal both times. It did get chilly at night even for late June. Warm days and cool nights Directions: We used a GPS to get to San Polo and then used the directions provided from that point on. The directions were adequate. My suggestion would be to be patient - the distance is difficult to judge due to the winding nature of the roads. Check In Out: Went very smoothly.

Overall: Very good. There were 6 adults and 2 children. My grandsons of 11 and 10 years of age loved the basket ball, Ping Pong, and swimming poool. Enjoyed Most: The location and the grounds. Enjoyed Least: We missed our dryer, but it's good to get to know other cultures! Nearby Events or Locales: Santa Maria del Giudice is within walking distance; it has a small super market, church, coffee house, restaurants, laundry. Tips or Restaurants: First, bring a car. Plan on purchasing supplies, including toilet paper, before you arrive.

Overall: Perfect place for many families together.Lots of interesting places to visit in the area within an hour's drive. Enjoyed Most: The outdoor area was nice and with lots of shade.Nice swimming pool with plenty of reclining chairs. Each apartment was different but all were very charming. Enjoyed Least: Nothing - we enjoyed everything (expect the rooster who started his routine at 6 o'clock on the neigbor's farm.) Surrounding Area: Very charming countryside, lots of places to visit. We enjoyed the cathedral in Orvieto, the city Siena (market on wednesdays - park at the north end of the village, by the stadium), the fortified village Montereggioni, chocolate and ice cream in Perugia, the awesome "Grotto de Frasassi" (a day trip - lunch in Gubbio, then the caves followed by dinner in Perugia on your way home). Nearby Events or Locales: Vernazzano is a not even a village, but had 2 local bars, both within walking distance.Tuoro sul Trasiemo is the closest village (5 min. to drive), but not really within walking distance. Restaurants are everywhere in the countryside - we tried and recommend an outdoor restaurant situated halfway between the property and Cortona, along the local road. Tips or Restaurants: The local foods stores are open unril 8 in the evening, and even open for a short while on Sundays, so it was easy to get food and beverages after we arrived. The store is a 5-minute drive from the property.Bigger stores are a 15 minute drive--there's one in Carmucia (near Cortona) that has a good selection of meat, seafood and wine.Buy the map of the Umbria + Marche area (Touring Editore no. 8) Directions: None - the directions were perfect. Check In Out: Everything went smoothly.

Overall: We enjoyed our stay very much. The location for day trips is great. The property was very well-maintained, the pool was very nice, and the apartment worked very well for us. Staff persons were very responsive. Enjoyed Most: Great location, nice views, good-sized bedrooms. Enjoyed Least: Were able to hear traffic sounds from highway at night. Surrounding Area: It's Tuscany. Nearby Events or Locales: Tavarnelle Val di Pesa; it's not walkable. Tips or Restaurants: La Fattoria is a restaurant nearby. We enjoyed it very much (two nights there, takeaway another night).

Overall: We and our extended family really enjoyed our stay at Villa Lariana. The property is large, airy, and comfortable. The staff (property manager, housekeeping, chef) is terrific. Enjoyed Most: There are lots of bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and air conditioner. The kitchen is commercial quality and huge--perfect for preparing meals for a large group. The heated pool (which can be completely covered in case of rain) offered welcome relief at the end of each day. The ping-pong table in the game room kept the kids occupied. Enjoyed Least: This villa is not in the best location. Pianello del Lario is a small town with little to see or do. The ferry only arrives twice each day--in the morning and afternoon. Bus service is hourly. Getting around was complicated without a car. Surrounding Area: DON'T MISS the Boat Museum (La Raccolta della Barca Lariana), which is no longer open to the public, but can be viewed by villa guests with the property manager. It's a spectacular record of the nautical history of the lake. We also enjoyed walking the length of the public lakefront walkway that passes in front of the villa. Tips or Restaurants: HIRE THE CHEF, at least once during your stay, for a fantastic multi-course dinner. She is talented, knowledgeable, and friendly, and she prepares mouth-watering dishes that are beautifully presented. For dining out, we loved the Veranda Beach Cafe, a lakefront restaurant within walking distance near the Pianello del Lario ferry landing. Directions: Arrange to meet the property manager at an alternate location, then follow her to the villa.

Overall: Perfect. Enjoyed Most: The pool with the view. Surrounding Area: Beauty. Nearby Events or Locales: Not within walking distance, but Sant'Agata is lovely. Tips or Restaurants: You must do the gastro tour--ask the keyholders Gianni and Lucio about it and definitely have them come and cook for you! That was the best part of our stay! Directions: GPS is quite useless in this area.

Overall: We loved the villa! The location is excellent with a 5-minute commute into town, 30 minutes to Florence, and 30 minutes to Pisa. The villa is well furnished, very private, and located within a olive grove and vineyards. Enjoyed Most: The salt water pool was absolutely clean and perfect for the kids. We spent many nights after dinner playing in the pool. Enjoyed Least: Nothing! Surrounding Area: The towns of Limite e Capraia, Montelupo and Empoli are excellent small towns with good resources. Check with Francesco at the villa for the address of the gelateria in Montelupo - it is to die for! Nearby Events or Locales: Closest town is Limite e Capraia - could be walking distance but it is best to drive back and forth. Tips or Restaurants: Believe it or not, the town of Limite e Capraia has an excellent German restaurant called Lowengrube. This is a must! Directions: We used GPS to get to the villa. The turn onto the road to the villa in Limite e Capraia is not well identified - without GPS we would have missed it. It is good to know that the road from Limite e Capraia to the villa is essentially 1 lane and turns from a paved road to a dirt road. Check In Out: Check in and check out went flawlessly. Francesco and Eva were excellent hosts!

Overall: We enjoyed the home tremendously and we loved the village of Crespina. The pool and al fresco dining really made the home a perfect getaway. The location was quite nice--close for easy drives to Florence, Cinque Terre, Pisa, etc. Enjoyed Most: The pool and grounds. Enjoyed Least: We hired the private chefs recommended by RentVillas. They were nice, but I felt that the meals were just OK. I am Italian and feel I could have prepared better meals. Surrounding Area: The village of Crespina is lovely. I enjoyed the little village market/store. The owners were lovely and always helpful. We picked up amazing produce, meats and cheeses there, as well as wine. Tips or Restaurants: There is a neighbor dog that barks, but you get used to it. Directions: Our GPS did not pick up signal, unfortunately.

Surrounding Area: It's not a touristy area. Very beautiful. Nearby Events or Locales: Spoleto is 6 miles away. Tips or Restaurants: We enjoyed eating at Capanno, Palazzo di Papa, and L'Angolo Antico in Spoleto.

Overall: The overall experience at Vill Ilia was great. Enjoyed Most: Aside from the amazing view and comfortable property, having the owner nearby was great. He was always helpful and even dropped off 2 bottles of his wine for us to enjoy. Whenever we had a question, he was more that accommodating and willing to help. Enjoyed Least: The mosquitoes were a problem. The property was described as having screens but some windows did not have them. Surrounding Area: We were not far from Cortona, which was fantastic. It was one of my favorite towns. Nearby Events or Locales: Cortona was the nearest town but not within walking distance. You had to drive there. Tips or Restaurants: La Grotta was my favorite restaurant in Cortona. Directions: I did rent a car but ended up turning it in the second day. We had a driver for the rest of the trip.
