This review is not going to be completely fair. Our shipment of peppers arrived the evening before I went on duty for a 48-hour shift. The day I got back home I was too tired to do anything with them. I opened the box the next day, approximately 72 hours after delivery, and the peppers had almost all gone mushy. There were about a dozen peppers out of the 10-pound box that were salvageable. I roasted those and they were excellent.

Hi Jason, We don't really feel that this is a fair review either. Upon pulling up your order, I noticed that you selected ground shipping. On our shipping page, we clearly state which services we guarantee for fresh chile. You opted for ground, which has a warning that it may spoil in transit. Most customers receive their chile in good condition with ground shipping, so we provide it as an option, but we give that warning about spoilage. There is also a pop-up that customers have to click through, which warns against opting for anything less than 2-Day Air if they are going to order fresh chile for shipment. The temperature in the back of a delivery truck can get up to 120-130 degrees. This causes the chile to shrivel and spoil much quicker than it does when transported in a temperature-controlled airplane. In addition, leaving the chile in the box untouched for 3 days is not a good idea. We do clearly mark the box as perishable. While I can't offer you a refund for this order, I CAN offer you 50% off a box if you will pay for 2-Day shipping. How does this sound? Thanks, The Hatch Chile Store

I ordered Hot, but unfortunately they just weren’t. Very disappointed in the heat, flavor was decent however. I wasn’t allowed to return or get hot chiles as a replacement. Won’t order again.

Hi Allison, Since the product ordered was a perishable food product, it is company policy not to accept returns. I'm so sorry you were not happy with the heat level of your chile. The heat level is subjective and varies greatly from person to person. It does look like we offered you 50% off a box of the X-Hot if you would like to try it. I'll make an exception, and if you would like to try the X-Hot, all you would need to do is pay for the shipping costs. If you would like to take us up on the offer, please reply to this email. Thank you, The Hatch Chile Store

Package arrived on time and chilies were still frozen solid. Well Done. Not for the not so much category, 1. the chilies are NOT as hot as the web page would lead you to believe. Cust Svc says due to the weather last year. Then you should update page so say they may not be as hot as expected. 2. Chilies are mushy. 3. LOTS or "juice" in package. I've done chilies at home and frozen them and never had this much. Overall, may have to question ordering again.

I’ve ordered from you all before in the last two years and was very pleased with all of my products. This last order however I was not happy that my tamales were wrapped basically in some sort of paper rather than cornhusks, the flavor was good but not the same as with the corn husks. I don’t know why you guys decided to change other than maybe it’s too time-consuming to wrap them in the corn. Everything else in my order was very very good.

Hi Bray, I'm so sorry the tamales were not to your liking. Using corn husks as the wrapper versus a paper wrapper should not affect the flavor of the tamales. Corn husks are traditionally used as they were readily available. Unfortunately, during Covid-19, the supply chain interruptions made it near impossible for us to source high-quality corn husks. Rather than stop making our tamales, we had to adapt. Thanks, The Hatch Chile Store

Too much wrap and not enough chiles and cheese.

We have had good chilis in the past so we ordered 10 lbs of skinned and chopped green chilis in the fall of 2020. We added some to a dish and there was a bunch of hard pieces that were the green chilis. We have tried two additional packages with the same result. We have not opened the other packages because we do not want to ruin our food. I responded to an e-mail from Hatch Chili last year but never got a reply, maybe you didn't receive it. We do not want to order any more now because we do not want the same result. Thank you, Darren and Lori Fincher

This is the first time I’ve had an authentic tamale from Hatch that was wrapped in parchment paper instead of real corn husk. Very disappointing. I won’t be ordering again. Your high rating must have been from past years and not your current product. Over priced for a massed produced product. A. Banks

Among other things, I got the posole kit for Christmas Eve. I was pleased with my posole, but for THE SALT!! I only used half of the bottle (it calls for the full bottle. If I can’t find something to take away some of the salt, the entire batch is ruined. Please, please, please lose the salt.

Quality of food and service has decreased from last year. I was so looking forward to receiving tamales this year but was disappointed. They were wrapped in paper instead of corn husks and had very little filling. One half of my order was on backorder but this was not communicated until I asked them.

I was surprised at how many chili pepper seeds fell off and the tie at the top came undone on one of them. Not sure I would recommend your store. I live in Albuquerque and thought I would get a better product (like your ad picture) from your store but I think I could have bought one local and received the same thing and maybe cheaper. Disappointed.

Everything was good except the shipping. The packaging was great BUT there was no dry ice only an empty plastic bag The chiles were cold but not frozen Maybe someone needs to speak to the company you use for shipping

The products arrived on time. The ice packs were melted but product still cool. Another day and they would have perished. The beef chimichangas need a little more meat in them. The rellenos are good.

I placed my order on October 2nd, I made a phone call on November 3rd to inquire about the order, at that time I was told they would be sent out within the next two weeks. I made another phone call the week of November 15th and never received a call back, I then sent an email, again no response, I then filled out a report stating there was an issue with my order which I then received the response that you are out of the mild chopped green chilies that I had ordered and offered to send me the whole roasted mild chilies with a $10 refund or to send me some chopped from last years crop. While I chose the 1st option I am ver disappointed that I was not informed at the time I placed the order that you were out of the product or when I called. We were needing them for Thanksgiving and we’ll as you can see we have not received anything.

past years Hatch Chile Store was great always received the chiles I ordered. This year I pre-ordered but then I received an email saying they were out of chopped green chiles but they could substitute whole roasted if I wanted them instead. Had no choice but to change my order. As of today November 25 still have not received.

For years I have been getting green frozen chile from The Hatch Chile Store and have been very satisfied. This year I ordered medium frozen green chile and am very disappointed. The chile is very tough and had no flavor or heat. I ordered 10 lbs and have opened three of the packages with the same result. When I called the store I was told that the excessive rain caused the chile to be abnormally mild. I wish that I would have been warned before I bought it. I will probably try it one more time when I finish this batch hoping that it was just this batch.
