“I'm a total luddite, but last year I heard good things about Volumio from an acquaintance. My daughter helped me put the free version of Volumio on a Raspberry Pi 4, which is connected to a 3 year old Schiit Modi dac going in to my stereo. Was blissfully streaming local radio stations and Pandora until I recently upgraded to Version 3, which broke the Pandora plugin. Taking away one star for that. Hopefully that plugin will be fixed soon so I can get back to my Pandora stations.”

“Volumio is a wonderful software. Thank you Volumio Team! For the last few years, I have been using Jriver Media Center, which I like very much. A couple of weeks back, just out of curiosity, I looked around for similar solutions and Volumio popped up. I downloaded Volumio, installed on USB stick and booted from the dedicated Jriver PC running Windows 10. Not really expecting much, but nonetheless very pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get Volumio running without changing anything on my Jriver PC. The 4TB local disk and the 3TB media NAS were immediately recognized by Volumio. And then came the sound check! I was stunned at the quality difference. So much so, that I spent the day listening to classical, jazz and rock music on Volumio. Last week, I got myself a Raspberry Pi 4 B 4GB for Volumio. And now, I am convinced. Volumio is my music server of choice :-) I think what makes Volumio better than the system I have been using, is the fact that Volumio is embedded as an OS with just the relevant features of Debian. Running a music server on a bulky OS like Windows 10 has the disadvantage of any number of processes (irrelevant for the music server software) running in the background and degrading music quality. Thanks again Volumio!”

“Hey Volumio, I really enjoy using your system, and the implemented multiroom with snapcast was a game changer. It was also the reason why I made the update to 3.x which has now a Paywall for using plugins. The lack of the classic plugins (at least the one which where previously supported like GPIO Buttons and Podcast) is the reason I just put 4 out of 5 stars.But I am sure it will be improved in the future. Keep up the good works guys, great system!”

“Volumio is a really great player on a Raspberry Pi 3B. I use it with a USB DAC and a Marantz amplifier. I mainly use Spotify to stream music. I highly recommend Volumio !”

“Very good overall. I haven't had to reboot my device once since I switched from HiFiBerry to Volumio for an OS on my Rasberry Pi with HiFiBerry DAC hat. It works perfectly with my CD collection that I have downloaded as FLAC files. But its interface with Spotify is lacking. It is great for listening to existing playlist on Spotify but I can't manage list there from it. Once they add that I'd say it goes from 4 star to 5 star.”

“I started to use Volumio 3 not too long ago. I am very happy with the reliability, did had problem once with the WiFi connection. Just added a RPI DAC amp. The sound is much improved. However, do have a problem with not able to play low quality (32b /64b) web radio. May be a problem with the DAC and not Volumio.”

“Volumio is a great music player compliant with many audio files formats. I use it with RPi combined with an external USB DAC which provides high quality sound for a very competitive price. I do not give 5 stars only because I sometimes experienced some reliability issues with WiFi network connections and more rarely forced to format and installing the firmware again. But how could we ask more from a free application that offers amazing features and a very user friendly interface which doesn’t have any competitor from my point of view. My suggestion would be to improve startup sequence and to propose natively a compliance with other TFT displays which is a nightmare to configure especially touch screen. Anyway many thanks to Volumio team for this achievement which offers an alternate solution to material music in a high fidelity approach!”

“I like the new version yet some features from previous version are missing thus I am staying with previous until they also get added. Buttons GPIO for example. These are free in previous version. Also, when you upgrade versions and then ask people to pay (which is respected) you must give them more than what they had for free.”

“The sound is fantastic and just for that and for what it does it deserves five stars. But to be honest - the code is buggy. It's best seen when the app is in the background on the smartphone, especially for a longer period of time. It needs to be closed and opened again in order to work properly.”
