“Can not believe how this whole thing plays out, but miss understood somethings. Hey here's to the smart ones who came up with this money maker for themselves. I sent in 3 very full bags of clothing,shoes,purses. I made a whole $6.25 for HUNDREDS of dollars in clothing. People read everything carefully and keep in mind for every bag you ask for cost $14.99 a bag, So really I did'nt make a dime from my items at all I just paid for the bags, so they are making butt loads of many from your items and you windup oweing them in the end. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“My merchandise is pending and noone responds but the bot. They say they shipped and shipper says they did not. I have no idea if it is actually coming and suspect now it will be late and no longer needed. Service is horrid. I will dispute the charge.”

“Thred up sold me clothes that they say are in very good or excellent condition. When I received them, one had a hole in the fabric, another blouse had thred hanging off several places and had small rips. One pair of denim high rise women’s pants was maternity wear and a pair of jeans they said were women’s were clearly men’s jeans. Of course they wouldn’t accept a return because it said the sale was final. Even though they didn’t send me the product they advertised. I would stay completely away from this company!”

“Consignment and customer service is horrible. I sent brand new shoes and kids coats that after sell my so called profit paid for the shipping cost of sending the bag. One pair of brand new pumps came up missing and never found nor listed. I wished I would have read the reviews first. I would have donated to a good cause. Only ThredUP is making big money.”

“If I could give negative stars I would! I sent a giant bag of great clothes. It took 3 months to list! Half the items, some new were not listed. Very expensive items disappeared! You do not get the selling price, thredUP does! You get less than $1 per item if you are lucky! DO NOT SEND clothes to THREDUP! I made less than $9 for 8 pairs of jeans 2 new dresses, sandals, 8 tops, 2 shorts, 3 skirts! And let’s not forget half my items which were in excellent condition didn’t even get listed! I guess the lister liked the items and kept them for themselves!”

“Be cautious of what you buy and be sure that you really love it. Each piece is charged $3.99 to return plus postage. The pictures are small and do not necessarily reflect what you are getting. Go with a company with a better return policy. Had to return 3 out of 3 items. Wasted money!”

“This website was good when it first started as far as purchasing 2 hand clothes shoes etc but now they want to sell sneakers for 130 dollars when they are not worth 30 dollars stained worn out even if it’s brand named if the product is all beat up price should be low”

However, despite paying these fees, I never received my unlisted items back, and ThredUp made no effort to explain why. This in itself felt deceptive, as they claim to return items but clearly do not follow through on that promise. **Hidden Fees and Unclear Policies** The entire service is riddled with hidden fees and confusing policies. ThredUp does not allow you to set prices for your items, which is particularly frustrating given that they frequently run deep discounts to attract buyers. These discounts drastically reduce the amount you can earn, and you have zero control over it. Even worse, the platform doesn’t start paying you until each batch of items meets a $15 earnings threshold. Only after that threshold is met do you begin to earn a mere 3% commission. After shipping 27 high-quality items, including designer handbags and clothing from well-known brands such as Madewell, Topshop, Nordstrom, and Neiman Marcus, I earned a grand total of $45. The payout system is insultingly low considering the value of the items I sent, making it clear that ThredUp profits heavily while consignors get next to nothing. **Non-Existent Customer Support** Perhaps one of the most frustrating aspects of ThredUp is the abysmal customer service. There is no phone number to call if you have an issue, and the live chat system is consistently broken. When you do manage to open a chat window, it’s just an automated bot that says they will email you, but they never do. You are left completely stranded with no recourse or help, which makes resolving any issues nearly impossible. **Poor Reputation and Lack of Accountability** A quick glance at ThredUp’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating should be enough to make anyone think twice before using the service. They are not BBB accredited, and they currently hold a shocking 1.1/5 rating, with over 1,000 complaints filed against them. This is a clear red flag and further evidence that their business practices are not only misleading but potentially unethical. **Final Verdict: Avoid at All Costs** In conclusion, ThredUp is a thoroughly disappointing and exploitative service. The platform’s model is clearly designed to benefit them, not the consignors. The fees are excessive, the payout is dismal, and their customer service is virtually non-existent. “I sent in a group of very nice designer clothing. One shirt I sent was by Worth. It's a very expensive brand. The way Thredup has its pay makes it not worth sending in your clothing. It's better to just donate to a worthy cause and take the tax write off. I do not recommend sending your clothing to Thredup.”

“I ordered a purse from thredUp which was described to be in "excellent" condition. When I received the purse, not only were there several loose threads (it is a fabric purse with embroidery) but the zipper was broken. Definitely not my idea of excellent. I went online to find out what I should do because I still wanted the purse, but I was not happy with the condition. thredUp gave me three options: credit for about 40% of what I paid, 35% off my next order or free shipping on my next order. So I chose the credit thinking it meant they would credit it to my credit card. No, they meant store credit. I didn't realize this until after I had made my selection. So basically they wanted me to spend more money instead of actually resolving my issue which was their fault in the first place. I got on online chat with thredUp's customer service and long story short, they refused to credit my credit card and insisted I had to either return the purse or accept one of their other "offers". I kept pointing out that it was their fault for misrepresenting the condition of the purse, but it didn't make any difference. I ended up disputing the charge on my credit card and getting the entire purchase price credited. And I got to keep the purse. thredUp's loss because I had no issue with paying for the purse at a discounted price, but they refused to credit my card. So now they are out of a sale and a purse.”

“Terrible for sellers. Charge you $14.99 to send your clothes in for EACH bag. I thought I was doing a good thing using my own bags but they were small so I used three. They sold a few of my things then took the rest that failed to sell within 30 days. I lost name brands like Eileen Fisher and have banishing to show for it -zero profit. Also, the prices are way to high. Better deals on Poshmark .”

“I have bought and sold on ThredUp several times, but I'm done. Too many times I've sent brand new items they have deemed "ineligible for earnings," which means they'll still sell them, but I will get no commission. How they decide this, no idea because they still put a decent price on these items. Another time I sent in a pants and top set. Very unique design, obviously a set. They listed just the pants - shirt nowhere to be found. Takes months to process a clean out bag, fees are outrageous, sellers earn pennies (if that) and now they're discontinuing their points / rewards program. There's nothing that makes selling on ThredUp worth it. Donate to a local charity instead.”

“Thredup used to be a decent place to but and sell clothing but not anymore. The quality of the people inspecting the items is poor. I bought a purse that was labeled 100 leather. I knew it wasn't when I received it and there was a label perfectly clear that said 100 percent PVC. I sent in a high quality suede jacket to sell, and never saw it listed. After spending much time on the chat to find out what happened, I was informed it was ineligible because it didn't have a size. This was produced in another county so the size label was in a different language. They told me there is no way to get it back. After this last debacle I will shop and sell elsewhere.”

“They basically collect your brand name expensive clothing that is in excellent condition and sell it for you. They create a very short window of time before they "discard" it as it is past the window of time for selling in consignment. AKA continuing to list your items to sell for 100% profit. Not to mention that they give you a tiny fraction, ex. $19.97 for items they sold for over$100 to then hit you with a "fee" that ends up paying you a total of $4.99. I think the 80+% should cover the fees. It is a rip off for sure. I sent retail value at purchase time about $3,000 of clothing and received $4.99. it is a greedy infrastructure that is a complete scam. Just give your clothes away to a thrift market that will actually use the funds for charity. This operation is profit-based and their" clean- outs" only truly are profitable for them. I also recently experienced items that were "new with tags" and they were definitely not new. The tags had no brand or store name on them and were very generic and the items of clothing were definitely worn. Gently worn mind you but not new with tags. What an absolute SCAM!!! It is sad too because I actually was enjoying purchasing items. Keep in mind though that when you purchase something you pay $30 for it and then when you return it after the"return label fee of $10.99" the penalty to return you get back maybe 1/4 to 1/2 of what you originally paid for the item that is oftentimes described incorrectly in the website. That is just my two cents, take it as you will.”

“I sent in my bag in August and received a confirmation that it was received. It has never shown up in my clean outs and I have been trying to straighten this out with them, I have contacted them at least 8 times and gotten the run around and no service. I have sent them a copy of their receipt. They keep sending the same silly responses. I will never deal with them again unless they find my bag or reimburse me for the contents. I urge you to be very cautious dealing with them. In addition their payouts have gotten ridiculously low. Beware of them.”
