About The Thompson Method:

The Thompson Method is a gentle, evidence based method towards a gentle birth and pain-free breastfeeding experience. It was created by Dr Robyn Thompson, a midwife with over 45 years experience who was awarded a PhD for her research into why so many women were being discharged from hospital with painful nipple trauma and other breastfeeding complications such as engorgement & mastitis.

The Thompson Method challenges the forceful breastfeeding techniques, linked with painful nipple trauma, that are commonly taught in most hospitals. It’s for ALL women who want to breastfeed, but particularly those giving birth in the hospital system because it offers a gentle alternative to help women AVOID the most common and painful breastfeeding complications.

But it’s more than just the technique on how to get a good latch. It is that, but it’s so much more...

Well worth the absolute mountain or support and knowledge available for every stage of breast feeding. I needed some extra support but found the support from the admin team and other women on this journey so brilliant, more supportive & less judgmental than other breastfeeding groups on FB

My baby was 4 weeks early. I was prepared for what to expect with a baby that may have to be away from me. I questions were answered kindly and very quickly. The ladies are always helpful and encouraging. I used the Thompson Method for my 3 rd baby and we have so far breastfed for a year. I was only able to make it to 6 and 9 months with my first 2 babes. This was SO worth every penny. My baby was born when you couldn’t find formula easily and it never was a worry for me because I knew we were spot on and would be fine. I became an advocate for myself and my baby. I gained confidence to feed him whenever and wherever. I can not thank Dr Robyn and her team enough!!

Everyone should know about this program!! I wish this method would run in maternity wards and hospitals. These people are just amazing and so supportive!!! After giving up breastfeeding on day 5 with my first, I wanted to know everything in and out about breastfeeding for my second. Well, Thompson Method has it all!! My amazing husband gifted me this program at Christmas and I can say is the most beautiful and amazing gift I have ever received: to be able to breastfeed. We did have a rough start, an emergency C section, followed by sore nipples after 12h of life. Nurses pushing my baby to breast? No, thank you! Midwives respecting every single request? Yes, always! Because Thompson Method gave me the courage to be firm and listened to. I was supported by these kind people on every step and we are now into 3 months of lovely bond and a perfect supply for my little one, and we don't plan to stop at all. I will recommend this method to every single mom or mom to be for the rest of my life. I am so thankful to have these people in my life.

Kelly Faytrouni visited our home for the Breastfeeding Rescue package as this is my second breastfeeding journey and was determined to have a better experience. She came in with warmth, knowledge and understanding. Within 1 day of implementing her advice (the Thompson Method), my sore nipple completely healed and I am feeding both sides at every feed without pain. It feels so surreal to type those words after all the struggles with my first baby (I had damage on both sides for 4 months & was reduced to feeding off the least sore side for 1 year after giving up on the other side and eventually losing supply). I am in shock still & cannot thank Kelly enough for visiting ... everything changed since then. We are so happy & overflowing with gratitude! I can't believe it all came down to such minor tweaks in position - could not have done it without you - with special thanks to Dr Robyn's method.

I had my first pregnancy during lockdown in 2020, so I signed up for the Thompson Method course as I was unable to attend anything local or face to face. I'm so glad I did, because the advice was invaluable for both my birth and my breastfeeding journey. I successfully breastfed my son for 15 months. I am now just starting my second journey with my 3 day old daughter and it has got off to a great start using the Thompson Method.

Four months old and rocking it! The Thompson Method saved my breastfeeding journey! I had originally opted into the program to not make the same mistakes as with my first little one. I had to exclusively pump after weeks of trying and thinking he was just feeding too strong (it was actually the result of following wrong choices from nurses and poor lactation support available) This one ended up overachieving and made so much amniotic fluid that I popped like a balloon at 27 weeks. After a 6 week stay at the hospital (lots of time for reading up on the method 😉) she was delivered at 33 weeks. If not for the method, I would not have had to confidence to insist on getting her to be a breast feeder. I had nurses who would tell me most premature babies from their experience had to continue to bottle feed and it would be harder to transition. But with the knowledge and support I got here we have all the bottles packed away! Thank you Thompson Method for everything! I can’t wait to spend the rest of this feeding journey with my sweet girl and enjoy all the extra cuddles.

The Thompson Method Breastfeeding Club helped me out so much and I could never say thank you enough! I nursed our first 2 kiddos, but wasn’t able to go longer than 2.5 months. I got the course the night before my scheduled c-section with our 3rd baby. That baby is now 7 months and I have been able to exclusively breastfed her and The Thompson Method Breastfeeding program was a major part of me being able to be this successful in my goal of doing that. I highly recommend them! And they are very prompt at getting back to you on your questions and are great at following up!!

I'm celebrating 1 whole year of exclusively breastfeeding my gorgeous boy. It hasn't been without its ups and downs but I've been eternally grateful to this programme for helping me when times have been tough and giving me the solid knowledge and confidence to trust my instincts.

I just want to say thank you go Dr Robyn for her teachings My baby was born premature at 31 weeks, she wasn’t able to latch until her 34th week. She had NG tubes until we left the hospital. It was a struggle to exclusively breastfeed her due to nipple trauma from pumping and tongue tie but we managed to do it, thanks to Dr Robyn’s Method. She is now 6months and 4 months corrected age. Thriving at 8kgs. I am so proud of my little girl. She’s a little fighter ❤️ Thank you again Dr Robyn 💕

I am So grateful for Robyn and this amazing breastfeeding program! When I found out I was pregnant with Baby # 5 I was not worried about labour or delivery at all, but instead was more anxious about the first month postpartum, and especially the first week. With children #'s 1 - 4 I have experienced cracked and bleeding nipples and have had mastitis twice, both times requiring antibiotics. While I exclusively breastfed those four babies (ranging from 14 months to 3 years), the memory of the pain was enough to send me researching. I finally decided to take a chance with The Thompson Method. The first few days of breastfeeding I was starting to experience the beginnings of raw nipples, so I watched the fine-tuning videos, and had to especially trust the process when milk came in and was starting to experience engorged breasts. I was starting to default to bringing the nipple to my baby instead of baby to nipple, out of fear. I kept saying to myself "trust the process". Within two days of Robyn's method (including a bit of hand expressing and manually pumping to relieve some engorgement), my engorgement went away. At 12 days postpartum my nipples had healed. There was only slight discomfort when Baby vacuumed, but it went away quickly now that I knew how to fine-tune. I was blown away by how well it was going. My baby boy is almost 4 months old and still exclusively breastfeeding. We both love the bonding time and all the smiles. Thank you SO much, Robyn, for your research and for your desire to help and inform.

This method is so intuitive and natural. I can't believe US based physicians, nurses, and lactation consultants are still not teaching this!! I feel blessed to have found it and hope it can be more widely disseminated at national conferences and reference materials.

I absolutely loved that I felt more confident with my second child. With my first, I felt lost and it hurt so much. Thank you so much!

My second child was born on January 3rd, and she's my first Thompson Method baby.

I just wish I'd known about it when I had my first because it would have made a world of difference for my birth and breastfeeding experience back then. With my first baby, I had all the typical breastfeeding struggles that went on for months, like cracked nipples, tongue-tie issues, oversupply, and mastitis. I was determined to make it work, but it was frustrating and painful, and I ended up stopping after 5 months. But with this new baby, breastfeeding has been a breeze right from the start. I was lucky enough to have the 3 golden hoursr where she latched on like a pro. I didn't get that with my first baby, but now I realise how important it is.
Thanks to the Thompson Method, my breastfeeding experience has been wonderful. Their focus on technique, the gentle approach and dedicated support is priceless. I've been telling everyone about it, including the hospital staff who still use old-fashioned techniques that don't work. I can't thank Dr Robyn and her team enough for their dedicated work

This method and all the information the page provides are amazing. I started my journey with nipple trauma, clogged ducts, shallow latch that ended up causing mastitis. I came across this page, and just like anything else it takes a little time especially if there was trauma beforehand. I am now 3 months in exclusively breastfeeding pain free and I now have a healthy 13lb happy baby who is thriving and so much more comfortable than shoving her mouth and head into my nipple the way they teach in hospitals. She now latches on her own and no pain for momma! The videos were super informative and the responses from admins were fast, efficient, and super helpful! I am grateful for this method and these groups. I encourage every momma who thought about giving up to keep pushing! I promise It gets better!

The Thompson Method is amazing because Dr. Thompson and her team are amazing! They are truly dedicated to helping women all over the world achieve their goals. Although the course can feel a little overwhelming at first because there are so many resources, it is easy to use and packed with the knowledge and wisdom of a gracious, fun-loving midwife. The Thompson Method practitioners are so kind in responding to any and all questions, too. It's clear they love encouraging women through this unique phase of life!

I was asked to share and I said I would. It might be a tad long so I’ll keep it short. But most importantly if I hadn’t found The Thompson Method, I would’ve been so lost!! Most if not all hospitals just expect you to know things and that is definitely not the case! With all the information that she/they share is so informative and it makes you feel powerful and you know your rights and it’s OK to say no and they can’t tell you no or force you into things your uncomfortable just to make them feel like they did their job. And they know how to make you feel like you said yes even though you actually didn’t, you just needed time to think things over. So when I found out I was pregnant I was kinda in shock like what, no way. Cause I had an iud in and the stats are very low of getting pregnant. Then shortly after I found The Thompson Method and I was kinda I don’t know, probably just one of them stupid things that just isn’t worth my time or money (like we all think!)! So I bit the bullet and got it, and I started listening and I was blown away with everything and I researched everything that she was saying afterwards and I said to my hubby “this lady knows her stuff” lol. Fast Foward to when I was 37 wks and 3 days I WAS in a hospital setting that does water births from the beginning and I was like man everything is coming together how I want! ( how great) well I get a call from one of the midwives (that I actually liked) saying due to my weight I am unable to do a water birth and to have to the baby on the bed. I was so broken, sad, betrayed, p*ssed, just so many emotions that I can’t describe. I asked questions beyond questions and I just kept getting ”No”. So I called actual birth centers and midwiferies and I was too far along to be accepted or they didn’t have room (now I was really hurt!) to have been strung along that far and then to be told cause I was pretty much “full term”. The hospital also told me they had mentioned it awhile ago and I said “No, i was told I might not be able to that is different from being told a direct no.” “Why wasn’t I told this when they read my birth plan out load to me in the room?” I got no answer except it was lost in communication. I had finally found a midwifery that was open and willing to take me! I was like this too good to be true but it’s the best thing that had happened and I wish I would’ve found her sooner but they say things happen for a reason! I also have a doula that will be attending 💕 I am currently 41 wks and 2 days and she expects me to have the baby within a couple days! Just know that you have a right, your right! And without this program I would’ve been so lost and just stung along like most women out there and doing what they want. I can’t recommend this program enough, I hope this helps anyone to come 💞💞💞
