Archer Software is best known for its Surname Atlas. GenMap takes over where the Atlas leave off. It enables you to tailor make your own maps either by counties or 1881 registration districts. The program has a comprehensive gazetteer making inputting data easy, but also allows data input from a number of sources including a gedcom. There are four different map displays to choose from and you can add titles and even symbols.
The program is not immediately intuitive to use, but it takes very little time to learn the first principles. I was producing maps within a day of receiving the software. The program comes with a comprehensive manual, but I have yet to examine more of the in depth features.
You can print out maps from within the program or save to the clipboard for loading into a graphics program.
Well worth the money, particularly if you are a map lover as well as a family historian.
