This was our third time with NOC down the Chattooga River. This time we took the grandchildren ages 11 years and 9 years. We all had a great ride and fun, safely supervised by the NOC staff. The afternoon run was beautiful in full sunlight, and the river sparkled and splashed over the rocks so that you just wanted to get in the river to cool off. Dan, the team supervisor, conducted a guide lottery and we got "Sam." We were fortunate, it was a perfect match. Thanks to "Sam" our raft guide, we didn't lose anyone. Samantha was engaging on the trip, asking the kids about their life experiences while sharing some of the things that created her love of the river and that keep her coming back in the summers. Several interesting additions on the trip that we had not experienced previously were an opportunity to body surf through a rapid and the creation of competition among rafters by, in effect, rigging the rafts as a sort of pontoon bridge and encouraging us to run the length of the bridge while "trolls" tried to knock us off balance. Great fun and hilarity. The grand kids want to return soon. I'm getting pretty old, but I am going to run this stretch at least once more -- oh, shoot, until I can't go anymore!
