“My personal credit limit was decimated although I have an excellent credit rating, good earned income plus pension income, no dependents, own my house outright and have never defaulted on payments of any kind. I was informed of this by means of an extremely offensive letter. Well, it's their loss. It was the final push to get me to move away from their awful business banking to a better provider (luckily my personal banking has long been with a decent bank rather than with Barclays.
Your loss Barclays, not mine.”
“Disgusting. I’ve been with Barclays for 10 years and have an excellent credit rating. They just told me my credit card (which they’ve been raising the limit of for years without me asking) is being cut to £850 credit limit.
I’m leaving Barclays fully they’re not getting a penny from me ever again.
This is a pandemic.
Disgusting I really hope someone sues them. DON’T GO TO BARCLAYS!
Disgusting selfish company.”
“I have been Barclay’s credit card customer over 10 years with an excellent payment history.
And my experience is not very good.
This company will stub theirs good standing customers in the back by lowering credit limit when you expect it less. For example: when you pay down the credit cards they lower your credit limit to the minimum. Also the company did not report paid off accounts to the credit bureaus on company’s normal schedule. I wonder if by Barclay’s policy they have a waiting period on reporting paid off accounts to the credit bureaus because of possible customers credit score increase. I have not experience anything like described above from my any of other credit card companies accounts.
In conclusion: Use Barclay’s cards while building or rebuilding credit. But get rid of Barclay’s accounts as soon as possible (when you can dodge the few points of credit score loss for closed accounts) before they find a reason to stub you in the back by harming you credit score.”
“This company has the worse customer service !! I reported fraud on my account and Barclays will not assist on getting my credit.
Stay away from this company....”
“In February of 2020 I closed my Barclays card account. Three months later I received a letter that I owe Barclays $41.50 because there was $10 charge, after I closed my account in February and the rest of it are late fees and charges. Surprised I called Barclays customer service to settle the case, but the representative and the manager told me that I must pay this amount, or there will be consequences, this will be reported to my credit history, which it was The whole conversation was extremely unpleasant. While was sending letters and continue to call Barclays and had phone talks in attempt to settle the case they were adding more and more charges. Now they are charging me over $200 in fees. This is how this predatory company works. Avoid this card by any means! Run from them.”
“I mailed them a payoff check on 2/25/21 that I got by refinancing my house. I sent it certified mail so that I could track when it got there.
It was delivered to their mailbox on 3/3/21. I waited until 3/5/21 before calling them. It still hadn't been picked up.
I asked the 1st person and a supervisor if they would please pick up the check and process it before my due date of 3/8/21. They both quoted me that their mailed payment process takes 7-10 business days and it wouldn't be processed until 3/11/21. They said they wouldn't refund or do anything about the late fee that would be incurred, even though the payoff was sitting in their mailbox for 2 days already and would be there for 5 business days before they processed it.
I had to make an extra payment online and now I will have a couple extra hundred dollars paid on my account when they process the check. I'll have to find out how to get that money back. I will be closing my account as soon as I can.”
“Terrible service. I have been scammed for just over £1000 while abroad. It took Barclaycard 10 months only to tell me they are unable to help, using covid as an excuse. Absolutely terrible .....”
“Barclaycard claims to have 24/7 customer service. They have a few different numbers you can call...all default to the same recording with awful music...and no one answers. I waited over 30 minutes on multiple occasions. My time is valuable too, but they treat phone customers like we are all fools. I plan to cancel my card if I can ever get through to them!”
“AVOID BARCLAYCARD LIKE THE PLAGUE. Unbelievable shysters. They set up payment processing on our website igbiosicence.co.uk took £1000's of customers money then said because we sold powdered milk it was too high risk and they are keeping all our customers payments. SMALL BUSINESS DESTROYERS. DON'T BELIEVE THEIR PROPOGANDA.”
“Greetings, all!
I was trying to add "zero stars", but unfortunately that is not possible.
This is without doubt the worst credit card company I have ever had the misfortune to open an account with. (And let me tell you, they are up against some pretty stiff competition!).
Last summer (July 2020), despite my credit report showing no missed or late payments with Barclaycard, and a good/excellent credit score, Barclaycard slashed my available credit from five thousand pounds to about fifty pounds with zero notice. The first I learned was when I received an automated email saying I was nearing my credit limit. Needless to say I panicked, concluding (as you would) that someone had used up my entire 5K available credit.
A day *after* the arbitrary limit reduction I received a letter, informing me that they had reduced my limit due to missed/late payments or a poor credit rating. Both of these grounds were demonstrably false.
Fortunately, I was at home when this happened and not travelling. Imagine I had been travelling with my Barclaycard as my only source of payment, believing I had 5 grand available? The possible consequences really don't bear thinking about.
On complaining, they told me their terms and conditions allow them to slash credit limits without notice and without warning, even for customers with no missed/late payments and a good credit score, and that they do not need to give a reason.
If you are happy having a credit card whereby they can slash your credit limit at will with no notice, for no reason, and then offer not so much as an apology, then go for it. Otherwise, avoid Barclaycard at all costs!”
“They have cut my credit limit in half with no warning despite making on time payments every single month and for more than the minimum because we are trying to get rid of our Bluegreen timeshare.”
“Barclaycard customer service is nonexistent! On 10/12 and 10/28/2020 my account was fraudulently charged for a total of $375.96. Barclays told me to call the vendor (phone number on my statement) and was told by the vendor to contact Barclays and told by Barclays to send them a detailed letter and they would open a dispute claim. And while the charges were being disputed, I would not be charged interest on them. But on my next statement I was charged $8.56 in interest. Finally, on 01/25/2021, after 3 months of getting nowhere with anyone, Barclays sent me a letter saying they were unable to assist me any further because "the merchant was not given the opportunity to resolve the claim". Three months isn't enough time? I closed the account and said so long to $384.52.”
“First of all, they cheated me out of a balance transfer, years ago, and shame on me for not closing then, but no kept account open only to have them reduce the available credit limit by 13,000 after 1 late mortgage payment in March 2020... and now trying to get late payment fees on due date payments? WTH who are these people? Closed the account when they cut the credit limit and now they Still want to collect fees for Anything..Bye Bye for Ever and by the way my credit score is still Good enough to forgo anything you have to offer..”
“I have been a long time customer of a Juniper Barley MasterCard and will cancel after I disputed a charge for $89 and received counterfeit Silver Eagle coins . Barkley sided with the Counterfeit merchant and cancelled my dispute . A manager didnt call me back for over two weeks and then explained they were just following MasterCard rules . Now they want a professional coin dealers opinion before they will open the dispute again . Only thing that was good about this card was my interest rate stayed under 9% the entire time I had it .”
“This is a terrible company. I have had an American Airlines Barclaycard for many years. But I’m tired of paying a $99 fee and never using any of the benefits. I tried to switch it to another Barclay card, and they said they don’t do that. So I had to cancel the card, or live with a $99 fee. Chase did this for me in a heartbeat.”
“Applied for the Barclay AA American card while flying with American Airlines on November 6, 2020. Barclays immediately charged the "waived" $99 fee for the first year, posted first payment late and charged $29 late fee and finally never gave credit for the 50,000 miles for applying. Avoid at all cost. I would hope the AA will consider working with another card company.”
“Terrible customer service, terrible fees and charges and charges for fees! Avoid at all costs. Get Capitol One, Credit One or US Bank. If you account for 1 star as a minimum, their current score is .34”
“I received a notice in the mail from Barclays credit card, that if I did not use my credit card it would be closed, and I would lose my points. since I have about 91, 000 points that I did not want to lose. I used the card. Well I was in dispute with a vendor who charged me an excess of $42. I provided proof that I made the payment to Barclays and was charged an excess of $42.00 . This occurred in Oct 2020. I was informed that my case was assigned to an agent on Dec 22. Since then I have been charged a late fee of $40 plus interest of $1.00 by Barclays while the case is still open and in dispute. But what is egregious is that Barclays have reported me as being delinquent in my payment. So instead of my outstanding balance being $42 the disputed amount, the outstanding balance reflected in my account is now $83.00. The original $42 plus Barclays late fee of $40 and interest of $1.00 My credit score has decreased by 38 points. I have emailed Barclays to right the wrong.”
