My 82 year old father in law broke down, after a somewhat frustrating telephone call speaking to a machine he finally got through, was told 2 hours. Now 5 hours on, not been in touch and still waiting on s roadside in the freezing cold. We will defo be cancelling RAC. I’d highly recommend people go elsewhere 🤬

Excellent service, I was informed that they were really busy and it could be three hours before rescue. I explained that it was an elderly gentleman driver who was somewhat confused. So it would help if they could keep in touch. The mechanic was really understanding and helpful and arrived within the hour, sorting the problem in no time at all, so impressed with the service. I have been with the RAC for many years now and consider them worth their weight in gold!! They are well trained and experienced, and above all, friendly with a good sense of humour! Well done RAC

Following a car breakdown in January do you think it reasonable to wait for 4 hours for someone to turn up ? For it to take 6 days to return your car to your home town/garage ? For it to take 2 months to refund your expenses ? I don't ! Suggest you look elsewhere for cover.

I can not thank RAC enough. ESPECIALLY the man who came to move my car. I was in hove & my car was 3-4 miles away, meaning it would have taken me over a hour to get to it. He came out of his way to come and pick my keys up from my home and go and collect the car. Then also put my bumper back on that had been pulled off. He was the most helpful, politest and professional man ever! His name was Gaven (3246) … I suffer with anxiety and this man helped me so so very much. I’m truly grateful u have such great staff working for you. 100% recommend this breakdown service. Thanks so very much ☺️

Shocking. Recovery vehicle turned up but couldn't fix issue (not an issue) so had to arrange Recovery. Couldn't do it himself because his tow was broken. Had to wait 3 hours longer for another vehicle to turn up in the freezing cold with a dog in the vehicle. Very unimpressed.

At 1pm on Thursday my car broke down on our way home from Liverpool. We broke down two hours away from home but I wasn't worried as we pay for RAC and have our car insurance with RAC too as have always thought of it as a company I could trust. I was left on the side of the motorway for three hours with my 17 year old daughter. After several phone calls we were eventually towed to the nearest services to meet the driver who would rescue us as far as he could before his driver hours ran out. He dropped us to Strensham services (an hour and a half away from home) at just after 7pm. He had told the RAC what time we would be there so that the link recovery could meet us there. After several phone calls (from me, I have had no phone calls from RAC apart from the initial two calls when we were on the side of the road, and the phone call I will go on to explain about in a bit) it was finally decided after midnight to send us home by taxi and our car would follow on. My daughter and I were left at this services for hours and after all the shops (apart from one) had closed. We were cold and alone! We finally arrived home by taxi just after 2am. I then phoned yesterday to try and find out when my car would be delivered, no real answer. It is now 9:35pm on Saturday (we broke down at 1pm on Thursday!) and I still do not have my car back. I tried RAC again earlier (again, no contact at all from RAC about what is going on, all coming from me phoning each time!) and they seemed to think it would be here between 8 and 9pm tonight. Still not here so I am going to have to phone AGAIN! They left two woman stranded for many hours while my husband who had a pacemaker fitted less than two weeks ago and my other daughter were at home worried about us. I have chronic pain and arthritis which means I can't be cold for for long periods of time. Being left in a car in the cold (snow and ice on Thursday) has really not helped at all. I honestly can't believe what we have been put through. I have been emotional ever since and still the nightmare is not over as I still don't actually have my car back! Extremely disappointed in a company I thought were reliable. I completely understand we have been in strange times during the pandemic a day lack of drivers in this country, but lack of communication from this company cannot be excused at all! And if they are struggling to provide a service, stop taking people's money! Extremely disappointed.

6 hours after being told I was priority being in a dangerous location and assistance would come in 40 minutes I am still waiting ! Just texts and tel calls back and forth giving numerous excuses ! It’s freezing cold but that matters not though I have to wait outside the car !

Absolutely terrible service, you don’t even speak to a human being anymore to report an incident, you are just sent a link to report online, and I was told after submitting mine that it would be a 4 hour 30 minute wait, alone on a back road at night in the middle of February in the freezing cold. Told you’ll be sent ‘regular text updates’ which just say they’re ‘on the case’ and not to call them with no actual indication of time. I did call anyway and after being on hold for 30 minutes spoke to someone. By this point a random passer by had stopped and offered to change my tyre (after popping it going down a pot hole) so I luckily only ended up being stranded for about an hour - no thanks to the RAC. They’re pre recorded message on their phone line is that they’re ‘extremely busy this summer’ … IT’S FEBRUARY!!! Shocking

Waited over 6 hours last night to be told it could be another 2 hours waiting time, which would have brought it to 2am… had to leave the car and get a taxi home, ring them this morning to arrange meeting at my car to be told it could be another 6 hours, even though last night they told me I would be prioritised…. Once they have towed me to a garage today I will be cancelling my breakdown with these people…. On every alert message they were using the excuse of the pandemic…. Which has long gone now!!!

RAC always come less than an hour if I need them. Flat battery they can organise that for u with a discount . The same for the tyres . They can replace 4 tyres for half the cost

4 hours in a freezing cold car, flat battery (that's all, 2 minute job). Text updates every 30 minutes to say "we're busy, we'll keep you updated". Phoned them after the 7th or 8th noncommittal text to be told "we're really busy, no idea when someone will get there". Took my battery off, taxi home, battery on charge and I'll get a taxi back tomorrow to put it back on. Last time I ever give the rac any money for their substandard not fit for purpose "service". AVOID

Appalling, just a constant stream of lies about when the mechanic would arrive. Told 5 different times through the day. Total wait time 9 hours. As a biker I had no shelter and it was in winter so nearly hypothermic by time they showed up. Arranged to tow it the next day from home and no one arrived, no notification of why when or anything. Absolutely avoid at all costs.

5 hours to arrive in the centre of Swindon and then another 15hours to arrange recovery from a partner garage around 150miles away. Great staff but zero resources. Totally useless, they just feed you inaccurate text messages.

AVOID RAC I'm now leaving the rac due to poor service. I broke down in my own work van in Southampton AT 6PM needed to get back home to Gloucestershire, got picked up by an independent company thro the rac but the lorry that picked me up was running out of hrs, so there for dumped me in a service station in Newbury, still 1hr and 20mins from home. Another company rac got in to pick me up didn't pick me up from the services until 3am altho I pay the max for rac cover, tried to ring rac but they are now closed due to being after 7pm,there for I was stranded in a service car park. Then finally got home by 5am Very bad and very poor. Avoid goin with rac.

RAC Disgusting service! 24 hours later and I'M STILL WAITING! was told to make my own way home at midnight in a storm! Every time I ring im told oh they'll be with you in 20 minutes! Absolute nonsense! Appauling service! Save your money and stick with the AA. Oh and apparently they don't have managers in the call centre. Absolute joke of a company.

Motorists - my very strong advice is to avoid, avoid, avoid the RAC at all costs!!! Have been a member for 20 years - have stuck with them until now as one of my vehicles is a classic VW camper that only they cover. Their service has been getting progressively worse over the last 5 years and has reached the point where they are now completely unfit for service. I would like to contrast my last two breakdown experiences. The last breakdown I had with RAC was in a well-known and not at all remote country park outside Southampton. RAC took 9 hours before a truck arrived to tow me home - that is after 45 mins on the call centre to get through. The clutch cancel had broken (which I reported on first call) - RAC’s own can took four hours to arrive to just say that he couldn’t fix a clutch cable. The recovery vehicle they eventually sent was an independent and took another 5 hours to arrive. By contrast was stuck on the M3 and LV Brittania Express arranged membership in 2 minutes and arrived in 15 mins to tow me home. I was recommended Brittania by the independent who the RAC eventually sent out to me on the first occasion and he was spot on.
