“They lied to me multiple times. They were very rude and verbally aggressive on the telephone. Showed no sympathy or empathy. Left my wife on roadside. After 8 hours waiting I gave up as I didn’t believe they would ever turn up. I organised and paid for private recovery.”

“I had spent 90 mins this morning stuck in the snow, not a member of RAC but a guy saw me at the side of the road and gave assistance, thank you so much, didn't get his name but he was in Wickersley S66 around 8.30am, my car was a black Mercedes, would love this to be passed onto him. Thank You 👍😊”

“Totally incompetent! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! RAC LEFT ME STRANDED! over 5 hours wait time. only to be told there is nobody in my area and they have to find somebody else. I had no choice but to pay for my own recovery! What shambolic service! I will be writting to the financial ombudsman”

“I would give them a ZERO if I can. 2024 New Years Eve I was returning back from Scotland to Leicester and the weather was pretty bad, heavy winds and rain 100%. My car started showing warning signs on the dash and the car started slowing down, drove the car until I got to the nearest services at Kendal Southbound which was at around 4.30pm. Took the RAC cover out and called them out for an emergency breakdown. Charged me £199 for the callout. Assuming either they fix the car or take us home. Anyway had no choice as I had young kids with me so I paid it as had to get back home. The RAC Patrol came around 6.45pm and had a look at the car and (THOUGHT) that the turbo has gone. Nothing much was done and no other options available other than towing the car to the nearest garage within the 10 mile radius or quoted me £1500 TO GET THE CAR & PASSENGERS TOWED . Now can someone tell me which garage would be opened at this time on New Yrs Eve to check the car and who in the right fraame of mind would pay £1500 to get the car towed? With not much on the table the guy left. Managed to arrange a breakdown for £500 to get us and the car towed to my home address, which we got home at 5am on New Years Day. All in all £800 went in the bin and no service provided. WHAT A GREAT START TO 2025!!! A COMPLETE WASTE AND A SCAM BUSINESS. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THEM. ABSOLUTELY USELESS. THEY ARE JUST MAKING MONEY, NO EXPERIENCE OF BREAKDOWN AND NO EMPATHY AT ALL. MY 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER FELL ILL BECAUSE OF THEIR POOR SERVICE.”

“I had a problem with overheating if my engine today. I called rac for the first time the waiting time was 4 to 5 hours. 2 ladies in the later years stuck in the freezing cold its poor . I will be cancelling my very expensive membership disgusting”

“I organised for RAC to visit my home between 11.00 am and 12.00 noon. The mechanic arrived at 12.45 pm to fit a new battery to my BMW 1 Series. He brought the wrong battery! I have subsequently made an an appointment with a Battery & Tyre Centre to fit a replacement battery minus the large RAC markup. The convenience of having a new battery fitted at home is far out weighed by RAC prices.”

“terrible, waited 14 hours and they still failed to come. in the end had to pay for a company to come and pull my car out the ditch. The company came within 20 minutes. DO NOT USE”

“Had my car get a flat tyre 2 miles from house. Waited 3 hours for them to get an update saying between 11:30 and 12:00 to tow my car home then get told can’t tow the 2 miles but can get you a tyre for 2 £210 pound “budget”. A budget is £71 anywhere else. No towing no tyre having to deal with it myself absolutely pathetic”

“Absolutely disgraceful totally ripped off by this company, waited 10 hours , dead battery and they charged me £149 for a £60 one ?? In whose world do they think it's OK to treat people who already pay monthly for their breakdown cover like this? This is after paying for their service monthly as well ! Avoid these charlatans at all cost !”

“I couldn’t believe how quickly the gentleman, Glenn, arrived. He was very polite and so helpful, and fixed my issue in under an hour which included having to go and get a new battery for my car! I can’t be happier with the service the RAC have given me today Thank you!”

“5 hours wait to find out my battery had gone. Because I had to wait so long they couldn't go and get a new one as the shop had closed for the day. Back in the morning, another 5 hour wait...still no battery. Dunno what I'm paying for, I could have just rung a garage!”

“RAC..... The top breakdown cover company. I was with them for around 5 years. 60 quid a year to cover me in any vehicle seemed like good value. I guess at that price it was......for the first year! Unbeknown to me, it's been automatically renewing..Yes, it's my fault for not checking this out. However this year's renewal for the exact same policy £480 a year! No lie. £480 a year! Previous year was £360 when I looked back. Absolutely disgraceful and rip off behaviour. They will never get another penny out of me again. OK, they've already had 20yrs worth of monies out of me, they've won, just read this review and don't let them do the same to you.”

“I needed to be road rescued After giving my details the phone operator said : you aren't with us After giving my location M74 and the marker post I hear: there is no such road. I'm from Manchester I don't know where you are I was told that I need to book the garage to fix my car - I had no reception Ended up bugging the operator for 31 min the lady booked garage for me that doesn't cope with citroen I spent the night in Glasgow in my car waiting for the garage to open. I was not offered any shelter.if RAC only give you one journey to one garage and if the garage cannot fix your car - you are on your own I paid for 3 years cover and insurance with A30 car sale - I want to stop RAC cover immediately and get my money back . No one is in a hurry to help with it either.”

“Absolutely appalling service after paying for the best cover. I am still waiting! Just received a call from an agent telling me there are delays in Newcastle, I’m in West Yorkshire!! I have waited over 4.30hrs and still being told there are delays. I feel so vulnerable in the middle of nowhere in my car not having any food/water/and regular epilepsy medication.”

“Waited from 6.00 p.m for tow truck to take me to my Sister's for Xmas,40 minutes away. Tow truck turned up at 9.00 but as he was going off shift could only take me to nearest service station. I declined as I needed to be towed to my destination. I am disabled with several health problems and was in a layby with no food or drink and very cold for hours. Still sat here after 7 hours! My Sister has been ringing RAC every half an hour but been robbed off by rude individuals that can't do their job. Definitely avoid RAC for your breakdown. Terrible service.”
