Have been a RAC member for over 20 years, have used the service 3 times in total, the last one (3 years ago) was pretty poor, I broke down on the way home from work, called the RAC (via the web site which is the only option now days), was advised someone would be with me within 4 hours ! After 5 hours a mechanic arrived, apparently he was assigned to my job from Leicester, some 80 miles away! He diagnosed faulty coil packs and towed me home. To be honest he was a nice guy, but he didnt have much good to say about the RAC, and that they were stretched and not happy to have to face disgruntled customers. Well my latest renewal has arrived, 30% higher than my previous years' permium, and unfortunatley I will not be renewing. Just checked Green flag, similar cover, 30% cheaper, so guess what?

I call the rac for recovery and the staff on the phone was Very rude and unprofessional The guy who came out was more professional and helped me out the best way he could. And I will give him 100% credit for all the help he gave me and made sure I got back home in my car wish I should of really drove with the way it was

I am paying for a service that I did not receive and my kids would have potentially been home alone for 3+ hours, had I not found someone myself. Called at 21.45 as my key was stuck. RAC said they couldn't help, but would put me in contact with a locksmith. Said they would call within the hour. They were aware rhat my sons (9 and 11) were home alone. I waited an hour and then had to find my own locksmith as the boys had been left for so long. My locksmith came within 20 mins and sorted the key in 5 mins. 00.16 I finally got a call from an RAC locksmith but I was home in bed by then. Just glad I didn't rely on them or my boys would gave been hone alone for hours!

What a waist of time, rang 1.00pm then told it could be 10.00pm already moved up once. Will risk driving the car home really slowly. To old to wait 10 hours for recovery. Original time 4.50 till 7.50 bad enough. Would not recommend.

I made the awful mistake of letting my tax run out for a week , then rang RAC as I had broken down ,they refused to pick me up as I had no tax , so I taxed the vehicle , phone up 2 days later to get picked up and they charged me £170 for the error of reporting a accident with no tax , it’s a con I have checked with the AA and they don’t do it , why should you pay for something you never had ?

My clutch went on me on the way to Manchester. I phoned them at 06.15, they turned up at 10.15. The driver insisted I needed to steer my car behind a tow bar. When he uncoupling me he drove off and I had to push my car into a suitable position.

Twice had to call them out in recent times, absolutely terrible over 2hrs on both occasions just for change of wheel nearly 3hrs on 2nd occasion, they said I was priority being disabled! also priority being in a dangerous location! Both occasions they eventually sent a contractor, would better service just to sign up with other companies and cut out the middle man the RAC.

The breakdown service team needs to improve their service, first they are not accurate to find out what the car problem is, secondly they promised to come and take the car away to the garage, the person couldn’t turn up because he was off the night shift before, he can’t make it because the garage close soon, we took time off to waiting for them coming, they just keep changing the time to come and at the end they told you they couldn’t make it need to change another day, we waited another day keep calling him but not answering, very frustrating, during this breakdown service and it’s first time we use RAC breakdown service, it wasn’t pleasant at all.

RAC -LONG wait times. I'm taking 4 hours plus. Two years ago broke down evening time in -9 degree weather. Was told 4 hour wait and the engine wouldn't run to keep me warm. I broke down recently in Manchester and needed recovery -again 4 hour wait. Both times ended up making my own arrangements for recover.

It is such a shame that the response times do not support the knowledgeable, experienced and polite patrol who finally attended my vehicle the following day. I wonder if they are asking the patrols to attend too many callouts in their expected response times? The txts. that I received updating the call request, and staff answering the phone at the call centre seem to be in absolute choas. No Business should be getting this level of complaints and negative feedback. A complaint to the RAC seemed to be handled in an unsympathetic manner.

have been with the rac for over 20 years and have been great when we needed them; but the premiums have gone up every year. we were offered green flag with our car insurance that costs less for the same type of cover we had with the rac. we received notice from the rac about renewing our automatic renewal; last years premium was £208 this year £250, 20% increase. phoned rac to say we were not renewing this year. they asked how many cars we had, we have one car. they offered a reduced fee as we only have the one car, new quote £180; we have had only one car for 15 years now and they knew it. its about time they looked after their loyal customers.

Was with the RAC for 10 years and have seen its decline in customer service (over the phone/office). Hardly any correspondence from them but quick enough to take your money!

I am writing this review after spending 7 hours waiting for rescue by the RAC. This in a city and after being promised I was a priority as a single woman. Most of the time I was being told I was within an hour of being towed so I stood there on the verge all day. Kept calling their call centre (5 times) which were a bit slow calling back then stopped altogether. App useless, just kept lengthening the time. I cannot rely on them ever again, this was awful.

My motorcycle would not start at my place of work . waited 2 hours for a patrol and the mechanic did his best to fix the problem . Unfortunatly he had request a tow vehicle ..I waited from 5pm to 11.05 pm . this is just not acceptable and at one stage 10.30 pm the call centre suggested i leave my key and make my own way home ..my reply was quite heated as i did not want them turning up with my motorcycle in the early hours of the morning ..At 10.40 pm I finaly recieved a call informing me recovery would be with me in 20 minutes .. 5pm to 11.05 pm is simply not good enough from an established firm RAC. .. Anyone thinking of taking out membership should look into alternatives first .

My car was covered by the RAC under a Barclays Travel Plus plan. The X5 broke down with an major oil loss on 21st November on a live dual carriageway with no hard shoulder. First of all the RAC didn't answer the phone , wanting me to report it on line. Without my glasses , which I don't need to drive , I couldn't do this on my phone. They wouldn't attend without the police there so I contacted South Yorkshire police who moved it to a side street. Now in a 'safe place' the RAC subcontracted the recovery to Richford Motor Services (rated 1.5 on Yell) , who then took nearly 24 hrs to recover it to their compound. After multiple calls (always from me , never pro actively from them) and frustrations , the RAC took the job off them and on day 9 after the breakdown did it themselves , by which time the engine had seized and the car written off by the BMW garage. Everyone at the RAC was very friendly on the phone , but totally ineffectual , and 'concluded the matter' with a standard template letter , and an absolute refusal to discuss anything related to a service level agreement with either their subcontractors or me as a customer.

Flat battery in Inverness. Was told to expect them in 240 minutes. Is 4 hours what they consider acceptable? When the guy arrived he was flustered and sweating. The RAC seem to be trying to do things on the cheap. Nowhere near enough mechanics on the road.
