I was buying a new van while keeping the previous van pending disposal. At no point did I get a clear answer about questions relating to the transfer of the no-claims discount if the old van was sold later and it was quite difficult to follow the details relating to "mirroring" insurance from my car and even after taking out the insurance I am non the wiser what the effect on the no claims will be if I sell the old van. As it is taking longer than expected it will incur an admin fee after 28 days and I get the impression don't bother. Hardly satifactory. Other wise the process was endlessly repetative and long winded involving more than one quote and being refused a policy because being retired as well as working was regarded as two occupations so we had to start all over again and twice refer to underwiters because a can of petrol carried was "hazardous substances". If it had not been for the fact I needed the insurance to complete the van purchase and it was simpler to pay another £50 than mess about elsewhere all over again I would have given up long before. The process seems farcical and trying to get cover for somebody to test drive the old van was impossible at a sensible price - again idiotic when you are simply trying to stay legal.

Having obtained a quote through Confused.com I felt, despite giving the reference I had just been given on their site, I was starting the process all over again. I had rung purely because I had a small query. I had to wait a long time for a reply on the phone from autonet and another waiting for the credit dept. I then had to answer most of the questions again in order to pay. Checking credit status if fine but these were all the car related questions. This was annoying and time wasting but worse, I sent proof of ncb as an attachment with a note asking for confirmation. The next day I again asked for confirmation of receipt. About a week later I had an email saying my insurance would be cancelled in 7 days if they did not receive my ncb. Again no reply by email. I therefore rang again. At least this was answered more quickly but it took several waiting times for the person dealing with me to check emails and confirm it had been received. The excuse for delay 'there are a lot of people contacting us about ncb.' My first email had been received and all correspondence from me had full ref nos and car details. The whole experience was frustrating unlike the response of Allianz who had helped me source my details since they were lost after a computer crash since last year. Not the feedback you want I am sure.

I was quite annoyed when I was asked to submit my protected no claims bonus within 7 days of the commencement of my car insurance - yet I had already paid the full 12 months insurance. I did not have the documents to hand and had to request from my insurers - this put me under pressure! - i wasn't happy about that. It took longer than a week to get evidence of my protected no claims.

Ask them to phone you back as the phone call will cost you dear. They ask all your details then pass you to someone else who will ask all the same questions again and so taking double the time. I don't feel i was given the best offer.

Dear Mr Allner, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience, I can assure you we do always look to offer our customers the most competitive premiums made available to us. I can also advise that the contact numbers for existing customers all start 03, which will be charged at the same rate as a standard 01 or 02 call. Kind regards, David
