We have used this restaurant for almost 30 years , it was once the envy of other Whitbread establishments not any more , it seems Whitbread are cutting staff cutting costs and cutting standards busy Saturday night and only 2 chefs on the main grill should be at least 3 if not 4 , 1 lady on the bar doing all drinks and only about 4 front of house staff , a duty manager who I'm sorry to say was next to useless , may be with maturity he will improve . 1 hour to get the mains served another hour for desert and almost 45 mins to get the bill .some tables waited almost 2 hours and walked out before they got the food . Seems no control whatsoever ever over the numbers they book , the large groups they book and no control over the food being ready and ran to tables . Not I have to say the staffs fault but the fault of senior management who have probably never worked in a busy restaurant but have a degree in saving money get. A grip Whitbread or is this part of the big plan set your restaurants to fail close them down and make them hotel customers only , like you already have in Cirencester and Norwich as well as other areas

We had a table book for 10 people at 12 o'clock in the afternoon. When we arrived my partner popped to the gents by the bar and was disgusted by the state of them, and stunk so went to the ones in the resurant and the stunk and one was blocked. So I complained about that. The place should have been cleaned. we were sat on a round table in the corner and forgotten about. Wasnt asked if we wanted drinks.(How can you forget a table of 10) we watched staff standing there chatting amongst themselves. We waited for another further 20 mins only for one of our table to actually get up and asked the waitress if we can have someone over so.that we could order our food. The service was disgusting. We quite often stay at the premier inn next door and have used the restaurant several times but each time we have noticed the service and the standard of food slowly going down hill. Probably won't eat in the resturant again.

I booked breakfast at the Beefeater Haywain whilst staying at the Premier inn. Upon entry we were told to step back in the most discourteous manner and left to wait. After being seated we were left to wait again whilst the staff focused on setting tables for guests to come rather than take our order, even though the restaurant had less than an hour to close? We ordered our breakfast and asked for our sausages in particular to be well done. To our shock and disbelief the sausages were burnt black! The member of staff blamed the chef, but my question is would you not check to see what has been cooked before bringing it to the table, or should we just pay for burnt food? The service was poor. Their excuse for was that this one of the busiest Beefeater’s in England, but with one hour to go where are 300 people coming from ?? Additionally is this the reason why the service has to be so poor ? I’ve worked in hospitality and therefore understand the pressure that comes with the work, but honestly it was a terrible experience staff need more training on how to be nice and welcoming and chefs need to be fired!

the food quality and quantity has got worst over the past few months, also we visited in january 2024 and there was a foul smell from the toilets in the dining area , visited easter, toilets were now closed had to use bar toilets, toilet cubical door was open and toilet was blocked, floaters and paper in the bowl, disgusting, the whole place needs a refurb.

Such a shame! - The haywain has gone done hill so fast. Understaffed like most places nowadays, the waitress had a couldn’t give a damn attitude- food was hour and 10 mins arriving and cold! Place needs a good overhaul and deep clean. Toilets had two cubicles - one with broken seat and one with a broken light. Overall experience was pretty disappointing! Wouldn’t waste 100 quid again!

Had the lunch offer today. I had the beef burger which was ok. Friends had fish and chips which looked like it had been cooked at 10 o’clock in the morning and kept warm you had to search hard for the fish as it was just a plate of dried out batter Used to come here years ago. It has gone right downhill. Never again!

Haywain was packed so we had to wait an hour and 10minutes for our food. When it arrived it was barely warm but we tried it. Some of it was uncooked. The problem is they are understaffed, overpriced and the food is served up and left on the counter for 10 minutes or more because waitresses are asking customers what drinks they want and not available to serve food. Never going there again Nearly 100 pound wasted.

OK so I noticed by review 5yrs ago on here.... I can only give a two star rating this time which is a huge drop...service ...waited half hour to get asked if we needed a drink...40mins for our luke warm food to arrive ...food was very basic and not half as much this time I understand that there is a lunch time menu which is reasonable but the presentation was awful...8 chips...really ...very sad as this place has certainly gone down hill.

Great meal again although they forgot both my chip and my wife sauce, friendly staff and good value. Problem tonight was tissues and wipes under the booth table and the table although clean had lots of what looked like salt swept into the table edges where table had been cleaned and good or salt just pushed to the edge. Not the cleanest I've seen this restaurant but a good evening.

Waited an hour for main course, steak came up luke warm and cold chips. Really disappointed. Waitress did her best and re-heated it but still wasn't a hot steak. Waitress apologetic, but fault with grill with food plated and left to get cold. Usually good service here, so hopefully this was a one-off

We went Friday night for dinner, restaurant was busy, we had good food, great service by Sasha, good value (we had a voucher for 50% off mains) nice & cool inside as air con. Had overcooked calamari but was given a fresh serving when I mentioned it Will definitely return. Couldn't fault!
