“Maybe my posting will help potential customers. I have tried to contact this company for nearly two months via emails and phone calls to no avail. I could understand waiting several weeks but not months. How can a company be trusted to provide customer support after purchase if they won't respond before purchase? Although I read reviews posted here that seem real, maybe they are fake. No one other than them can ever know for sure. As for me, I find them suspicious. The product seems really cool but no one at the company will take the time to respond. I hope customers get their expectations filled. I wanted to be one of you. As for everyone else, be warned that you might find yourself without help after purchase.”

“While it's been a fair experience having played around five times already, unfortunately, in about three of those games, we encountered issues with the board glitching and the AI feature malfunctioning. This dampened the overall experience a bit. However, the remaining two games were pleasant and enjoyable, successfully delivering fun gameplay. Yet, I do feel that the cost is slightly on the higher side.”

“I saw the board at youtube and wanted to have it! In the beginning everything was fine. The board is very handsome and every function worked. I am a CM and wanted to play with a board at lichess and chess.com. My problems started wird the firmware-update 1.9.2: Lichess is still fine but chess.com is not working anymore. The board shows the first move of my opponent and is not accepting my first move! This problem is unsolved. The next problem: With a full loaded board I can only play 4 hours and not 8! And I would recommend an improvement to the board updates: If the board uses the actual version, why don`t you use the sentence "It ist no update available"? I am waiting for more developments of the board in the future!”

“I’d love to give 5 stars but after o my several months of ownership and a few dozen games, the mere Re broken spaces that don’t turn light off when correct piece is placed or it will flicker on off under the piece while other potential moves not involving that piece are lit up. Very disappointing. I hope you will address this. I did the troubleshooting steps and cali rated the board after clearing etc.”

“i like it but there is a glitch on the app. sometimes when i choose i piece to move i can make an illegal move. Also integrating chessable's move trainer into it to train openings would be useful. overall a quality product”

“I bought this particular chess computer based on an advertisement where it was said and shown that "it allows switching between a computer and a human". I expected that I would be able to practice various openings by making the first few moves in a human to a human mode to get the opening I wanted and then switch to the computer mode to practice the variations. In reality, this option is available only without an app and with the maximum ELO 1200 and quite a long time (2-3 minutes) to generate each move. The app works faster and provides variety of strengths, but it doesn't allow switching the partner from a human to a computer during the game that the board does. Overall, the possibility of testing various moves in openings with the computer that I originally wanted looked reasonable. If you could add the feature to the app to switch an opponent during the game from human to computer (and maybe back), that would be great. I hope it's something feasible, This will make your product the best on the market. Kind regards, Roman”

“After ordering two chess sets for my children in the initial kickstarter campaign I was initially very pleased with the sets (even though I'd had to wait a year longer than expected for them) so I decided to order another set for myself. As one of the original backers I was a bit disappointed not to be offered a substantial discount for purchasing a 3rd chess set and even more disappointed when I placed the order in January after your sales representative told me I needed to place the order immediately as the prices were going up by £100 per set, only to find they are basically still being sold at the price I paid. I was expecting to receive my chess set in April but actually didn't get it until the end of July, a 6 month wait! I had explicitly requested as walnut style set as the darker sets looked a bit plasticky and tacky, and again I was disappointed that you didn't send me the walnut set I had explicitly ordered. Furthermore, after only a week or so some of the plastic has started to bubble up. Overall I am pretty disappointed and additionally think that if you don't sort out your delivery logistics you are going to go out of business pretty quickly (which I don't want to see as then my chess sets will be unsupported). Another big disappointment is that you don't seem to have made any significant improvements to the ChessUp App. You said that you would be adding connectivity to Chess.com but this still hasn't happened. Your videos also show some sort of automatic chess clock, which I can't find anywhere on the App (which would be really useful as I've already lost several games on Lichess due to running out of time). You also haven't added any other useful functionality like being able to set up the board in different positions and in order to switch between playing white and black you have to turn the whole board round. There also don't seem to be any advanced tutorials on the App, which I was expecting (things like different openings for example). Overall ChessUp is a great concept but I've been pretty disappointed by the fact that nothing seems to have improved since the kickstarter campaign.”

“The board is malfunctioning already. There has been no damage to the board but some of the starting squares don’t recognize when there are pieces on them so the game isn’t able to start. Can we get a refund or at least a new board?”

“This chess set has good quality physical elements and great potential. However, the software implementation still has a way to go. The app is not very well designed and there are issues interfacing with Lichess. The on board AI is also faulty and often prefers stalemate over checkmate in 1. I hope the software will catch up soon and allow the board to reach its potential. I'm also looking forward to using the board with other apps such as white pawn.”

“Hello to the team, If we consider the current state of the product (chess board program, applications on SmartPhone), there is still a lot to do for 1-the expected features and 2- the bugs to be fixed So —-> 3/5. If we consider the development potential and future evolutions So —> 6/5 and at this time, Chess Up will become the essential electronic chess game.”

“The design and ideas for the future of chess is brilliant. But I rated it three stars as the waiting and delivery time took 9 MONTHS. I ordered the chess board in the start of March and the board came at the end of December. Really amazing chess board but frustratingly long waiting time.”

“I really Like the Idea but its still really Buggy. I used mainly to play lichess otb, but more often then not my moves dont get transmitted to lichess. The chessup app shows my moves, but lichess doesnt seem to get it. If that will ne fixxed, it's an easy 5 Out of 5”

“I really like this chessboard, but sometimes I come across minor problems. Most of these issues concern the app (I am using the android version 1.1.9): The biggest issue is when I am playing online against others via Lichess. Only about one in three games is working properly. The problem here is mostly at the beginning of a game. Even though the board is seemingly connected, it does not detect the moves I make. It looks like the board is thinking I want to play someone directly on the board sitting in front of me, even though an online game started. But I have to mention that, if the board is connected to the game once, it does not lose the connection during the whole game. That is one positive thing I have to point out. I haven't really found a solution for this problem yet, but when it occurs, I first try to close and reopen the app. This helps from time to time, but if it still doesn't work, I turn off the board, put away all of the pieces, turn it on and put all of the pieces on the board again. In most cases, it is going to work after a few attempts, but I am sure you understand all of this can be very frustrating and one has to be very patient if one wants to play online. I also see some problems with the general design of the app, but I know that it is still in development, so I am not going to discuss this any further. All in all, I can see the great potential of this product, but it needs much more time to improve. I think that the board itself is pretty nice and I believe that the app can become good as well.”

“I think I am going to enjoy this set and applications immensely. However, I am 84 years old and quite frustrated. The directions are so very incomplete. I have no idea what Fens is and how to download it along with other applications. I want complete directions. Very disappointing in this regard.”
