Home emergency - water leaking through wall from waste pipe above kitchen which flooded fuse box. Mugged off by having to handle the claim myself between JL (Royal Sun Alliance), an emergency company called CET and a loss adjuster called Cunningham Lindsay. I had to call all three entities numerous times and was given a different explanation, outcome and costs every time. I was told that flooding houses and wet fuse boxes do not constitute an 'emergency' and I that because I have another bathroom it matters not that I have a new born in the house. Apparently JL insurance does not cover waste pipes, water damage, or quite frankly anything that is written in the policy. I have literally just got off the phone to CET and cancelled the claim as I believe I could probably get the work done locally for similar to the excess quoted and without having to deal with THREE separate disconnected companies all with their own agenda. NOTHING TO DO WITH RETAIL JOHN LEWIS....AVOID!!!

Took out lifetime cover pet insurance. SNEAKILY they increased the premium without authorization each year. It's now more than double, and the dog is only 4 years old. There has never been a single claim! I contacted them to complain. The said they would get back to me, but it may take a few days, still waiting, months later and they are still taking the unauthorized amount from the bank.

We had House Insurance with JL and made a claim for my set of golf clubs stolen from my car, which were out of sight and in the locked boot. They refused the claim on the grounds that there was no evidence of force used to enter the vehicle. I related to JL that the Police Officer who made out the crime report said that cloned keyfobs were a common means of breaking into vehicles in the area and the fact that my neighbor also had his car broken into in similar fashion two days later was rejected out of hand, quoting the policy statement which says: What is covered What is not covered Theft from motor vehicles unless at the time of the loss or damage: • someone aged 16 or over was in the motor vehicle, or • the motor vehicle was securely locked, and • force and violence were used to get into the motor vehicle, and • the items stolen were out of sight in a locked boot or closed compartment. Any amount exceeding £3,000 for items left in an unattended motor vehicleWhat is covered What is not covered 1. Loss or damage to personal possessions or money belonging to you or your family while anywhere in the world. The excess, this is the first part of any claim that you must pay. Loss or damage from the cost of remaking any film, disc or tape or the value of any information contained on it. Theft from motor vehicles unless at the time of the loss or damage: • someone aged 16 or over was in the motor vehicle, or • the motor vehicle was securely locked, and • force and violence were used to get into the motor vehicle, and • the items stolen were out of sight in a locked boot or closed compartment. She couldn't give me a clear definition of what this meant although she was adamant, the claim will be refused

Absolute con. I produced everything required in the policy document but the claim was refused. They were asking me to produce documents that weren't specified in the policy document and were making up there own set of rules as they went along!! Be warned, this company (that John Lewis add their branding to) will do everything in their power to make your life difficult and avoid paying. Beyond that, their interactions were incredibly rude. Avoid!!

We were traveling back from holiday with load of outdoor kit and were hit by a car that did not stop at 7pm on a Sunday. Contacted the police and JL Insurance. JL Insurance stated that as we had been involved in an accident out of hours, they could not get its home and that we would have to make our way to a train or a bus station. We were over 90 miles away from our house with 2 children and were fully comp. When we read our policy which stated that JL would get us home or pay hotel costs the person we were speaking to checked with their supervisor and still came back and they could not help. We were forced to crawl home with possibly not a road worthy car. Completely let down with this service as it seems JL did not honour a basic part of their car insurance policy. I have 2 other polices with JL and will not be using them again. Awaiting a response from JL and failing, this'll go to the Ombudsman....Disgusted and lost all trust

Awful customer service. Was out in a hotel for a month whilst a ceiling was replaced. The coordinator was obsessed with saving money but the management of the project must have wasted thousands! The building work was awful and the builders were little more than amateurs. They didn't rub down paintwork or remove radiators. Caused damage and even put silicon around Bath panel without taking plastic covering off. My sofas were ruined by dust due to builder not covering them up. I could go on. Worst part was no one responded to my concerns.

Avoid at all costs, been paying pet insurance for years with them now for 4 animals. First ever claim and they find a way out of paying. Pointless paying the monthly payments. Please do not use this company. Wish I read reviews before taking out the policy as it seems everyone has a problem. Thought we would go with a reputable company, how wrong we're we. Now left struggling to pay our mortgage. Absolutely infuriated by the lack of care they give.

Everything been claiming since Jan 2017 only just resolved and not to my satisfaction there way bullies and intimidating has left a nasty taste in my mouth they state £3000 pounds maximum claim however it states a single item being £3000 to replace and value.l say just be very very careful the goal post are closed very quickly so that your claim becomes very patrickexspensive to you'll will never ever recommend this insurance to anyone to anyone that does make sure you have the correct insurance for you

Very, very disappointing service. Trying to arrange a replacement oven hob for my elderly disabled parents has been a catalogue of problems. We were informed not to use the hob due to the damage and possible risks . So we thought that the hob would be replaced in a timely manner. Three weeks later, the loss adjusters had still not found a replacement model! We were not kept informed and had to chase them constantly. Eventually having contacted Miele myself to find a suitable replacement, I informed the loss adjusters of the model which they eventually sourced. I was then contacted by another company (supplier of said hob) who arranged delivery and installation. Installation day came and they were unable to fit the hob as some work was required with the electrical supply and they weren't qualified to do this. So, the hob went back! Five days later, after making further contact with the loss adjusters, I was informed that the hob would be delivered and I would have to arrange a local electrician to carry out the necessary work and installation at our cost which could then be re-claimed. What I would have expected is a turn key package from the insurers - this is not something my parents could have managed to arrange themselves. I have spent hours on the phone and sending emails which have been un-answered. This falls way below my expectations of John Lewis and I would not recommend them at all. Bad service. Unrated..

We had a break in to our home over a month ago. Despite numerous calls to JLP and their appointed loss adjusters we are no further on than we were immediately after the burglary. We work full time and the earliest anyone can be home is 4:30pm, we have been told the latest appointment is 2pm. We were told to ask for a weekend, which we have done, to be told we have to wait to see if the loss adjuster wishes to work that Sat. This is not the customer service we anticipated from JLP. We have been told we would be given online access, each time this has failed to materialise. The process feels purposefully obstructive. We couldn't choose zero stars, but that is what is deserved by JLP insurance and loss adjusters Cunningham Lindsey

We had wedding Insurance from John Lewis. The wedding Gown got damaged on the wedding day. John Lewis refused to pay out saying the whole insurance policy ended the second the registrar/priest announces you are married. Even if you walk out of the venue/church- the dress, rings, food, venue hire, reception etc is not covered The site the wording when the marriage has concluded, when the ceremony is done.thus the policy has ended. What a con from JOHN LEWIS their famous slogan Never Knowingly Inform the customers Biggest CON from John Lewis

I would not give them a single star. They always have a loophole for not paying out. My daughter had wedding insurance and her wedding dress got damaged on the day. The loop hole they threw at us was that the cover for the dress ended the minute registrar announces that you are married. So if you are coming out of the registrars office and the dress gets damaged going to the wedding reception or celebrations YOU ARE NOT COVERED that is JOHN LEWIS Never Knowingly Informing you of loopholes. Stay away from JOHN LEWIS INSURANCE

Just intrigued how John Lewis pro port to care so much about customer service until there is a real issue. Like their premium home insurance they outsource the emergency response, who outsource the plumbing contractors and the customer is left to deal with the lack of communication between the parties. The brochure says the service offers peace of mind yet delivers anything but. I have had to phone them 8 times today and still don't have an outcome. A burst pipe has left me with no heating and no water for 24 hours because the outsource mgt company cant find the quote sent to them by their own plumber 9 hours ago. Do NOT buy insurance from them its a nightmare.

From the beginning John Lewis insurance has been incompetent and clueless. When I first had an accident the most important thing was to speak to someone, get the car recovered etc. I was on hold for 45 minutes waiting to speak to someone whilst stuck on the side of a main road. To get anything done involves being transferred between several different companies all of whom manage different aspects of the policy and no one is around to co-ordinate the different companies. If you thought that buying a John Lewis product would get you a better level of service and re-assurance think again. Incompetent, bureaucratic and a complete nightmare, the one thing you want a car insurance company to do well is sort you out when things do go wrong not leave you hanging on the end of the line. The insurance broker (Covea) representative even told me that they didn't bother answering calls from the John Lewis line as they weren't so important!!

Needed to place a request for home emergency help as boiler had a water leak. Very poorly managed by John Lewis. Left with no hot water for 2 days with no update on when to expect repair. Elderly with chronic ill health problems and this is not acceptable.
