Shocking company. Would give them a zero if I could. My sister and I have been hounded to repay money that they say was overpaid to our mum on her death. Unbelievably insensitive. DO NOT TOUCH WITH A BARGEPOLE

They say that I cannot claim under my legal expenses insurance even though my specific claim is highlighted as a key selling point of my policy. I have been informed that the small print says I am not covered.

They say they give a refund, but then it didnt arrive, and when I asked they say it takes a MONTH to refund your money. When I said this is unreasonable and they should get poor reviews, they sent a legal letter to intimidate. I don't think its good to do business with people that act like that

Very difficult to communicate with regarding our Claim. We had a leak from the bathroom and it ruined part of the living room floor. After their inspection and a lengthy wait we got the new floor put in only to discover that we had wood worm. Needing the whole floor to be taken up again. It seems we will go private now due to the fact that having a floor put in is already incovenient we cant wait any longer on L&G. Very tiring procedure nearing a year now.

AVOID AVOID AVOID Legal and general home insurance is a scam they first sent an emergency plumber who said there was no mains leak and it was just a waste leak, after weeks of arguing i got my own plumber out who fixed the leak (burst pipe), then they offer a ridiculously low cash settlement for repairing the damage not even enough to cover the drying company (be warned do not accept their offers you'll never be able to fix it for the price), then they say they can't get any of the tiles to fix the bathroom so we'll have to pay for tiles, then the carpet underlay will only be fixed in a damaged area (the whole bedroom was covered in mould because they took so long) so I would consider the whole underlay to be unsafe. They seem not to care on the phone and just want to close the case down. Seriously look elsewhere for insurance. Its a shame because I have home and contents insurance through L&G as well as life insurance paying them lots of money each month, will have to go through the annoying part of cancelling it all to get a provider I can actually trust.

I was diagnosed with terminal cancer 6-12 months to live after waiting 6 months they refused my claim because the drugs I was put on to try and prolong life meant I might not hit their 6-12 month deadline. They were negligent with my critical illness claim and that sits with the ombudsman after they refused to payout even though two of their own investigators told them to...they refused to send files to the ombudsman. So I dont loose my home I have to come off the potential life prolonging drugs, even though my diagnosis fits in their Ts&Cs spoken to dozens of people and L&G just dont pay out. Its not why you pay insurance.....they do send you a reminder that if you kill yourself you are not covered. I thought that was a nice tough. I was definitely considering it! Try and live longer and be homeless or die within their deadline and you can stay in your home. They dont put that on the adverts

Poor service, no response, errors after errors when trying to opt-out online after a mandatory enrolment from Tesco, the code they send me was wrong and I am waiting for an answer. The perfect partner for Tesco...

I lost my husband in November 2018,he took his own life. I am ready to do the same because i am not just dealing with losing the love of my life, i am having to worry about legal and general paying out, even though there is no history of depression. Its not just myself, but his mother lives with us. We are both trying to comfort each other through the grief, but for 3 months we have had the added stress of this insurance company. My husband worked hard and paid the highest premium for 3 years because he loved his family. Heartless is what this company is. Big,well known company who you think you can trust. Our family is broken. Wish we had read all reviews before paying so much a month for mortgage and life insurance.

Made a claim for a lost watch had an hours conversation on the phone with claims post because I did not have the original 14 year year old receipt for my Tag Monaco watch they would not pay out if you don't have a receipt for it they will not pay they put loads of hurdles in your way and it seems like they try and make you give up rather than making a claim steer well clear and go for someone with less of Micky mouse reputation

They are currently top of the Money Advice Service tables for pension annuities for several types of product and superficially an easy route as they will deal directly with you without a blood-sucking intermediary. But dealing with them is like trying to push a giant blancmange up a mountain. Slow, unresponsive, poor communication and every little thing takes umpteen working days. They have the usual layer of customer service generalists between you and the people actually doing the job for you. You need to press them by phone and e-mail on a regular basis. Truly shocking. I'll be looking at Hodge for another pension pot if I can get them to quote for my needs, and/or let an intermediary deal with it all.

Hello I would not give 1 star we had guaranteed life with critical illness insurance when my wife died of breast cancer they said there was no problem but little did I know what I was in for the months went by then they asked for my wife's medical records up until she got cancer after they went through that they wanted from when she was born after that the 18 months until her death this all took 6-8 months with me ringing every week to see what was going on ending in £108.000 payment over £55.000 short went to ombudsmen wast of time that was with a solicitor.all this was on top of a top London hospital giving my wife radio therapy to the head resulting in suing NHS . 3 years later new solicitor going through everything L&G comes up he jumps on it and with in a week gets them to cough up £55.000 he said there should be interest for 3years which he worked out at nearly £15.000 L&G replied no interest or they won't pay the £55.000 he cut it down to£7.000 but same reply while all this was going on i had 2 breakdown's I have 3 kids I was almost pushed to do something stupid.L&G you just don't know how bad you made it. I cried writing this 11 years on

After being diagnosed with a terminal cancer at 38 and been given less than 12 months to live with 3 small children. I contacted L&G to put a terminal illness claim. They took 3 months to replay, and said no they chief medical officer disagree with 2 consultants in 2 different countries. UK & South America. Now I only have less than 9 months to live with my beloved children and no money to enjoy our lasts months together! Utterly devastating! No comparison whatsoever. Stay way from this heartless and greedy company.

Totally incompetent company who take your money, then if you claim they wriggle out of it and this is after you manage to get connected to somebody as they never answer the phones, my advice would be to go elsewhere and save your money and heartache of thinking you are covered and then end up having to pay yourself as well as the big phone bill trying to be connected. They are Rubbish.

Please avoid using L&G for your home insurance. They did not dispute the claim but made the process so difficult I was tempted to give up on the claim. I had a fire, causing some damage to contents and our property. Their appointed loss adjuster from BVS was aggressive on site. He offered a very small sum for the works which without even getting a builder to look at the works I knew wasn't enough. He then offered that L&G could appoint builders to complete the work. After enquiring back to L&G I did have a third option which I wasn't told about - I could get quotes myself. I did this but the loss adjuster phoned to say they were way too high and I should accept the 'fu@£1ng offer' he had put to me and get them to do the works. L&G appointed BVS to organise the works. Yes, L&G appointed the same company as the loss adjuster, who offered an insufficient sum and wouldn't entertain my quotes. I'll let you think if this is a conflict of interest or not. Works were a disaster, items such as insulation was missed (they even initially told me it was fitted until I told them I had photographic proof, at which point they admitted it wasn't fitted), the decorator didn't use dust sheets and splattered paint all through the room and left without tidying up. I was even accused of trying to get betterment when I complained that they did sand down a door before painting it and the underlying paint was all cracked and distorted. I have spent in excess of 30 hours on the phone to L&G through this claim. They are either incompetent or initially trying to deceive customers in order to minimise on legitimate expenditure. Ironically they accidentally sent me their costs from the builders and it has cost them more than the quotes I received!

Did not have a problem with them on my first life insurance policy until they decided to charge me twice when I moved home and thus amended my policy. Not only did they charge me twice for the month I moved home in November, they charged twice (both current and old policy) in the month of December. To my knowledge I thought to give them the benefit of the doubt, that this was an honest mistake on their behalf which they would own up to and resolve... I was wrong. Having received two responses from them I am yet to get an apology nor an appropriate resolution. I was informed by customer services that they are right to charge me twice for entire month of November because I was in the old policy for 3 days and charged me for the entire month on the new policy. They conveniently ignored the December double charge in that response where I had 0 days on the old policy. I have not been ripped off like this before. Judging by how customer services have provided such poor reasons behind the double charge and providing an inadequate response, subsequently yet to get an apology, if the next response from them is insufficient my colleagues who have accounts with L&G and I are cancelling our policies with immediate effect and will not deal with them again

Don’t waste your money with home insurance from legal and general. If you need to make a claim, in my experience they will not treat you fairly and are dishonest. 9 months ago, I had a burst pipe in the loft. Every room in the house was wrecked with walls, ceilings, floors destroyed and visible damage to floorboards, joists and electrics. And yet I am being denied a surveyor because L&G simply do not want to know the full extent of the damage. Much better in their view to send round a cut price builder to repair the superficial damage and let me live with ongoing damp and mould problems. 9 months after the event I am still waiting for any work to start. Avoid.
