I insured my passat 2006 with RAC and after fee days my car broke down and was not worth to repair it and as the result I had to cancel my policy in Cooling off period (before 14 days) on their website says if you cancel your policy before 14days you pay £25, but when I tried to cancel my policy they charged me another £40 for days which car was used too, you must be clear on your terms and condition.

My Policy is due for renewal but I am unable to cancel online Have tried a number of times to phone but have been kept waiting waiting waiting waiting totally unacceptable service. I have a feeling that they want to automatically renew then charge me a fee for cancelling. After reading their reviews I would never ever deal with them again.

I took out holiday insurance with RAC for a holiday in Kraków with my daughter. Our trip to Poland was cancelled by the tour operator due to Covid-19. I asked RAC if the cover could be moved to a later date as I have rebooked my trip for next year. RAC told me I couldn’t move my insurance, so I have a weeks holiday insurance while I’m at home. I won’t be using RAC again for anything.

I wish I'd known about these con artists before my son took out his insurance. He's 21 and just had his black box insurance cancelled, saying he's had three alerts, of which only the last one arrived. When we eventually got through, it was someone working from home, who said we would get a call back. Someone called back NOT the same day but the day after and when we queried the lack of alerts, we were told they didn't officially need to, so tough luck (in as many words) I asked how was he meant to know he was at risk of cancellation if no alerts came, and alter his driving. We were told we could have rung at any time we wanted to check!?!?! and/or log on to the app (which hardly ever works and is never showing current data) We were told there is nothing that can be done, despite me asking to wait until proof of how they calculated the driving score and proof of the email alerts that were claimed to have been sent. The guy on the phone got quite shirty when I was asking questions and wanting answers and basically told me that's how it is (basically sticking two fingers up) I am still awaiting the promised email of proof four days later. Oh and they want to charge my son to cancel the policy, even though it's them cancelling it, they say there is a cancellation fee of over £100!!!! Absolute joke of an insurance company. Just suppose glad we didn't need to use them for a claim. AVOID

Just had an email to say monthly payment hadn't gone through. Phoned within 30 mins of receiving message. It was due to my card having gone out of date gave them my new card details straight away they still insisted on charging me £20 for late payment. Thanks RAC for looking to screw me for every bit of money you can. Won't be renewing my insurance with you next month, not that that will bother you, reading these reviews looks like you are out to take whatever you can from people!!

My 19 year old son has today just had his black box insurance cancelled reason given saying it is his 3rd red alert. We have no previous warnings at all and given that he hasn't driven the car since 29th March - hasn't left the drive once - this is quite unbelievable. Impossible to reach, was on hold for over 3 hours yesterday then when it got to 6pm (their closing time), it just cut off. Been on hold for over an hour this morning. Please avoid - even if you have to pay extra elsewhere - total con.

Have been with RAC home insurance for 3 years. I have changed profession and contacted RAC to tell them my profession changed from full time student to full time teacher. RAC Have charged me a £30 admin fee to do this! The call lasted two minutes & they still charge even if you do it yourself online. I have given them my custom for 3 years and renewed policies with them and this is how they treat loyal customers. I will not be using RAC in the future and would not recommend using them. Very disappointing and unfair service to loyal customer. This sounds like a greedy money making scam to squeeze more money from customers.

Rac sent a blackbox for me to self install after 3 months of having the policy. Now after having the insurance for 10 months they want to cancel it stating I did not fit the blackbox. But the blackbox was fitted straight away They also want to charge me £300. This is totally out of order. I will never ever buy RAC again even if its the cheapest thing on earth. Please avoid Rac at all cost.

No customer service No connection to excellent service previous received by RAC breakdown Entirely outsourced to unrelated companies such as CoPlus (see trust pilot) I feel I was misled by the offer of a known brand and experience. Instead I've been passed along a line of variable companies to a completely dissatisfactory outcome with no sh*ts given by the people I thought I was insured by and their responsibility in ensuring their recommendations are of the same perceived values as themselves. Instead they have completely disassociated themselves and given no customer service. I am glad that the worst accident was someone smashing my wing mirror- 4.5months later this isn't resolved! Imagine something more serious! A deceitful and misleading product. Avoid

My son has been insured with RAC black box for the past 9 months, recently his circumstances have changed due to work resulting in him driving more miles and therefore initially added a further 2000 miles to his policy. More recently, he firstly received an email informing him that his mileage will be automatically increased, followed by a second email stating his policy will be terminated. Speaking to RAC, they informed him that the underwriters we're not willing to insure him for over 10,000 miles, this I would understand if he had a poor black box record, however, his record is excellent and taking into account they had previously increased his milage we were left frustrated to say the least that RAC we're no longer willing to insure him. Maybe I've missed something, please show me in legislation where a young driver is only permitted to drive 10,000 miles because I'm struggling to find it! RAC did offer an alternative underwriter at a cost of approx. 2K, unrealistic and quite frankly insulting, there seems to be a desire to drain the youth of as much money as feasibly possible, almost preventing the young man getting to work! He is now moving his insurance, unfortunately at an increased cost, he was three months away from earning his first year of no claims, however, RAC have taken that away from him at our expense. I am disgusted that you also have the audacity to charge him £125 to cancel his policy, what exactly do we get for £125? I'm really struggling to understand what would warrant this expense and I doubt we are getting value for money, unless of course you can demonstrate that it takes one of your employees an entire day to cancel policies! RAC has wasted his opportunity to build up his no claims by failing to account and accommodate peoples changes in circumstances, you should be ashamed of your rather poor service given the incredible cost in the first instance.

Seeing alot of negative comments here, but as a first year driver I found this policy to be decent (as far as having a black box can go.) Having a black box isn't ideal and don't get me wrong, the scoring on it was sometimes a nightmare, you get marked down for speed if you go even 1mph over the speed limit, and you get marked down for your urban score quite easily, I found even due to slowing down for speed bumps. However, overall the scoring system is quite lenient and it isn't hard to drive carefully. My driver scores were usually around 90/100 every week over the year. There is no night curfew and when i did drive at night the night score didn't really go down too much anyway so that wasn't a problem. If you change up gears rather than accellerating from 2nd to 4th for example, and break slowly, you'll find yourself comfortably within a safe score. I question the people on here who are on low scores- How badly are you driving? However come renewal they didn't really offer anywhere near the most competitive price, so I wouldn't use this insurance with the sole focus being getting good scores for a cheaper renewal- Use price comparison sites as I saved about 200£ and got rid of my black box compared with staying with RAC. One complaint is that they won't remove the black box and told me to get it taken out next MOT, so I'm stuck with a box in the car using up battery. If they detect faults with your car they seem to love calling you from a call centre in manchester, I kept getting errors on the black box saying I had an emissions problem. They called saying it could cause the engine to break. I got this checked with mechanic and they said it was all fine. Overall I can't really complain. -If you get a black box car policy don't expect to be able to drive around accelerating rapidly and going over the speed limit. Its a black box for a reason. - Look around for renewal quotes as even though they say they take your scores in consideration, I got scores of mostly 85-95 all year and their renewal quote was more expensive by about £200 -Have no experience on making a claim or cancelling so cannot personally comment on that.

The cover is great for a new driver and has a black box with free Installation which is good. However, if you have the black box I had several occasions where my score drops severely for no reason meaning they do tamper with data if you dont keep an eye on it but all in all it is good

Customer service almost non existent. Wrote two emails concerning my NCB but only got standard replies back after three or four days. No one actually answered my queries in my emails. Eventually cancelled my policy within the 14 day period. It cost me around £30 but found a better deal with Churchill. Still waiting for my refund which doesn't surprise me. Will never bother with the RAC again.
