I agree with the retired insurance and automotive professional. Shocking system. Should be investigated by the ombudsman.

I wouldn't even give them one star. They are the worst insurance company i have ever been with. I have received 2 emails telling me how they are going to cancel my policy for no reason whatsoever and now after they said on the phone that everything is fine and that my insurance won’t be cancelled. Just got another email saying how they are sorry to hear that I want to cancel my insurance like where the hell did, they get that from. AWFUL INSURANCE

Initial price was supplied but after calling it went down slightly which was the premium we hoped to get however as we had not contacted them they just put in place the original price which we did not expect as now every penny counts...trying to get any sense from the customer service reps was a total waste of time they are hopeless and all they seem to want is your money and do not give a s... about you the customer, Trying to get a Customer complaints e mail address is next to asking for an audience with the pope and trying to get the CEOs e mail ...impossible. Clearly a company who DO NOT CARE about their customers ,,Although we did re-new it was purely down to the price service as already mentioned is totally appalling

As a retired insurance and automotive professional I was asked by my 38 year daughter to help out with the renewal of her car insurance which had increase by £200 despite no claims or convictions. Using a comparison web site the solution was RAC Black Box Insurance, I am familiar with telematics, however there was no explanation as to the RAC driver scoring system but I was not too concerned since the car is in London most of the time. Black Box fitting requires direct wiring to the battery which must be clean for double sided sponge tape to secure. This my daughter was unable to do so threatened with cancellation and £125 fee by RAC, a neighbour attempted to fit box. As the box is not firmly secure on top of the battery she consistently gets 0 score for acceleration and braking. I now have access to her online driving telemetry and have found instances where the driving score is completely wrong due to GPS errors (speed on dual carriage way under urban single lane bridge ). Also as a London driver the urban score is always very low. Some months she does less than 200 miles which means there is no score ...Just as well as if you score less that 20% 3 times you policy will be cancelled and your record given to other insurance companies. That's called a RAC Red Event...not as bad as a RAC Black Event in which case they cancel immediately... that's for speed in excess of 20 mph of the limit. Customer support is poor and certainly inline with other comments on these reviews. So the terms and conditions are not made clear to the insured when they enter into the contract. The RAC driver measuring system cannot be reconciled by the insured, the results being displayed online with no system of appeal. The legality of an RAC Black Box Insurance Contract needs now to be challenged.

Our 21 year old has been paying a premium for insurance with RAC for nearly 3 and looked to change his car half way through his pre paid insurance. £150 more to change or £125 to cancel!!! To renew with another company was £300 cheaper. Honestly robbing youngsters RAC !!!!!!

6 months after knock, we are still waiting to get the car fixed. The company who work on behalf of the RAC appears to be working from home. We appreciate that this can cause difficulties but surely you work as hard from home as in the office. The work for our car has been approved but ‘Kevin’ is not replying to emails from his ‘office’ our our garage. Maybe he is out enjoying the sunny weather? But the words ‘barge pole’ and ‘don’t touch’ are currently sprinting to mind when the words RAC insurance are mentioned! Currently putting in formal complaint as they are not providing the service that we have paid for. If we could give 0 stars we would and advise RAC to use another company.

No longer need two cars so decided to sell our little commute runabout. Insured in March cancelled policy in August (7months left on insurance) of the £84 pounds cost of the remaining months an admin charge of £55 pound was levied. That left a grand total of £19 pounds returned for the 7 months! No matter the reasons that is daylight robbery no ifs no buts. I could and would not recommend this company to anybody, in fact STAY WELL CLEAR

I wouldn’t recommend at all!! Had a black box fitting during lockdown and I had to fit it myself and they sent me a faulty box I rang numerous time to get a new box they kept sending me emails saying my insurance was going to be cancelled. Finally 6 months later they came to fit it. Two days later I get an other email saying that my insurance is going to get cancelled again because the box that they fitted isn’t working and I have to book someone to out and fit it on the next email which they never sent. I rang up and told them what the email said they told me there was job needing to come out and fix my black box and someone would get back to me. Still waiting for someone to get back to me.

Insured with RAC against my better judgement. Days later I'm still not on the Motor Insurance Database so can't tax or drive. Absolute joke of a company. Avoid at all costs. You have been warned. Unfortunately I am stuck with the cocksuckers for the next year.

Had rac travel insurance. Holiday company went bust before we went but I didn't claim through the insurance. Tried to swap the date for another holiday but they wouldn't do it or wouldn't give a refund. I was prepared to pay more but they just said sorry you've lost your money. Will never go with rac with any kind of insurance again. Stay clear

A £25 admin fee just to change my policy to my new vehicle. A few minutes conversation with a representative on the phone and computer generated documents via email. Thieves. I shall join the long line of RAC customers who will move their insurance to another company when it expires.

Appalling service. I was willing to be a bit forgiving of delays because of covid, but its clear RAC would rather keep you on the phone for hours telling you how they're trying to help you rather than actually doing it. I simply wanted to cancel a policy for an sold (recently renewed) vehicle after already taking out a new policyfor a new vehicle (also with RAC). This can only be done by phone, yet I had to call 8 times during my working hours to get through. Being told each time to 'go-online' - not possible for cancellation. I got cut off by home-working staff with poor connections multiple times and for each call I had to wait 3 min 40 sec until until I was even given the choice (another minute) of what service I wanted and the privilege of then being put on hold and waiting for someone to answer. Eventually someone did and they were friendly enough. But to cap it off, I received no written breakdown of the significant fees I was charged for cancelling a policy I'd only renewed less than one month before. I believe the service rep charged me a £55 cancellation fee despite I alluded that he wouldn't due to the fact I was still a customer and had taken out a new policy with them (I even gave them the policy number to 'check'). I'll be looking to move when renewal for my new vehicle comes around. Covid or not, this is just a company that has zero respect for customers.

Absolute shocker, this is basically daylight robbery. Tried insuring myself with a black box just to lower my monthly costs. Turns out in the end I’m spending more than I’m actually saving. I started off with a reasonable amount that I would be paying each month, 4 months later this has increased to over £100 a month and I’m struggling to understand why. First I was quoted at a reasonable amount which I was happy to pay each month. Then they came back to me a week later saying that there has been some changes to my policy, for which I was charged an extra £20 per month. First I was unhappy but was willing to go ahead with it (as it’s still cheaper than other insurance companies). Now comes the big one. I have recently moved house and now I’ve been told that my premium would go up another £80 per month. So in total, where I should’ve been paying less, I’m being charged just over £100 more on my policy just for changing my address. I understand taking into account that premiums are based on where you live, how many points, length of driving experience etc, I just can’t comprehend a black box insurance company to be charging over £100 in the 4 months I’ve been with them. Not to mention the admin charge of £30 just to change my address. A disgusting company, one that doesn't live up to the title of ‘reputable’.

Shocking customer service with this insurance. A different advisor every time, and different information. A nightmare to navigate. Cancelled in the end. Would never use again.

Purchased car and insurance during covid 19 Had not received V5 so could not fit black box without uploading pictures of V5 ect. Contacted RAC to inform, they said it's ok to wait. Then received cancellation letter due to not fitting black box. Contacted RAC again, was told to disregard letter and fit black box asap without uploading info...then call to confirm fitment of box. Contacted them to confirm box was fitted, they told me my policy was cancelled in previous 48hrs as detailed in the letter!! And to insure again, would cost an extra £300!! Absolutely disgusting way to treat people! I was driving for 48hrs with no insurance, no knowledge that it was cancelled due to being told to ignore letter.! Don't Insure with RAC black box!

moved house recently. Tried to change address on line and the RAC cancelled my insurance policy as they were unable to do a risk assessment on a new build despite a neighbours address appearing on their website. now means I have difficulty getting insurance as I have had a policy cancelled. This lasts for life and not time barred. They are also going to charge me £55 for cancelling my policy. Wish I never heard of them or insured with them. Appalling customer services
