Failure to return telephone calls [ Anne-Mari Wilson ] Additional charges after initial quote of £895 no mention of + VAT. £50 for transfering my money into my account, Electronic File Storage Fee £49 whatever that is!. Search fees £7.20. The original estimate on legal fees in the Key Facts document was approx £650. Documents arriving 1 hour before Michael Mcelduff arrived at my home to complete the transaction.Your company was reccommended by Age Partnership but I would not use you again.

You wasted weeks of time delaying things in the full knowledge that I was being charged £15 a day interest on my existing mortgage! Despite this, your fee's were extreamly high for the routine work you did! I have informed Equity Release Supermarket that I will be advicing friends / family to find their own solicitors should they decide to go for Equity Release with them.

I felt your service was difficult to deal with as so remote and sent an independent lawyer to my home who couldn't answer any of my questions

Dealing with GWlegal made my first house purchase a very frustrating experience. As a first-time buyer, there are a lot of things that I don't know and a lot of processes that I'm not aware of, and I was expecting another level of support. The whole process took almost 7 months and although I do understand that certain issues take longer than expected, there was never a call from the solicitor explaining why things were taking so long. I felt that some processes only moved forward after some chasing from my side. Not only did some emails and questions never get an answer, but I also found that the support over the phone was equally frustrating and sometimes condescending.

I was plagued with too much paperwork and it was overkill in the emails, four of which contained the same information.

No lawyer involved. An agent of them visited us to gather personal information. Not a lawyer Was asked if we wanted our wills updated. We agreed but no action taken. Many telephone calls from a calm handling service. There may be solicitors behind them but we spoke to none of them.

The whole process was far too slow. With requests for documents being repeatedly received as GWL kept mislaying them. On one occasion GWL even forwarded numerous documents to us that were related to various different cases. These delays resulted in multiple loan offers being withdrawn and a higher interest rate being applied to the final loan. No explanation for the delays was ever provided.

We had a very poor experience with one of the solicitors who was a poor communicator and argumentative in her dealings with us. Only after we lodged a complaint & spoke to her manager did things improve. We also found some of the charges excessive

Unfortunately, my experience with GWlegal was not good, my first case manager was aloof and slow to respond to queries, and when she did reply the emails were often surly and unhelpful. Despite chasing on a regular basis, pointing out the deadline was fast approaching etc my first mortgage offer expired and subsequently the new offer was a considerably lower capital amount at a much higher interest rate. Having said that, my case was seemingly given to another team member after the new mortgage offer appeared and that was dealt with efficiently and in a more professional manner.

Agent who was due to visit to witness signatures etc texted to say he’d been excessively delayed and would arrive some hours later. This wasn’t convenient so he made a further appointment for over a week later. Again got a text to say excessively delayed! I find this unacceptable especially in light of the fact that I’d altered appointments to ensure I was available. I did mention it and would have expected a gesture to offset the inconvenience.

If you confirm a completion date and then don’t complete on that date and the client loses out financially, this is unacceptable.

I felt like I was dealing with a computer. I received several automatically generated emails that weren't even from a named person. The "client care call" which is supposed to be an introductory telephone call wasn't made until the day of completion! The completion statement I received made no mention of my existing mortgage having been paid off and I had to contact the firm to ask for a proper completion statement that accounted for all of the monies received from the new lender. Even this review form is nonsensical. It asks "was the delivery on time" and "was the item damaged", as if you were sending me some shopping as opposed to providing a legal service.

It has taken 2 weeks short of 12 months to get equity released from our property . We are still awaiting for the paperwork to arrive for our Wills and lasting Power of Attorney

Firstly, I was asked for personal legal and bank information going back three years, in addition to the original request I received 1 month later, after the process started. It wasn't asked for by the Lawyer who visited my home weeks before. It caused a lot of stress, combined with my lawyer going on leave for 10 days and leaving it to a colleague who " was very busy" and didn't act on the information I supplied. Further, I wasn't given the opportunity to pay all my fees from my own savings, so l have to pay 4.06%, a compound rate on £3,000 of fees which was deducted from the sum I was loaned. I'm not happy in respect to this.

I found the final stages of the process very poorly managed. Mistakes made on figures delaying completion, poor communication not advising on delays - only found things out if I contacted GW team. All in all a lot of frustration and stress caused giving a total lack of confidence. Glad it’s over!

Very disappointed with the level of service, and lack of advice from legal advisor. My equity release was held up and delayed by poor administrative procedures by Royal Bank of Scotland, but had our legal advisor given the correct advice we could have advanced the process by as much as 3 months.
