“Charged almost $200 for a sweater on Oct. 10. Today is Oct. 26, no shipping status, where is my sweater?… well I call customer service who tells me they never had it in stock and never will get it in stock and their policy is they do not notify the customer, they just refund money 30 days from the order date. What? where do they get the right to keep my money for 30 days? terrible”
“Absolutely horrific company! Tried exchanging a dress that was gifted to me as a present. Made several calls to make sure that it would be EXCHANGED! They said they had the size and would absolutely fallow the directions. Called 2 more times to make sure. Called today to check on the exchanges, in process. 2 hours after my call I am getting email saying that they refunded the amount to the original buyer. Say what?? You send the money back to the person who gifted me the dress?? Making me look like I didn’t want the present and you did it without my consent? Unbelievable. Tried to reason with sales agents, asked for a supervisor. Those women were super mean and patronizing. No compassion what so ever. They think the company did nothing wrong. “ we cannot fix the problem Ma’am. You have to buy a dress again!” Why do you promise to take care of my problem if you cannot?! 2 hours on the phone and many tears on my end. They never cared ones. Horrible customer experience. Never again.”
“Do not order from this company. They may have been a good company at one time but not now. I tried to return a brand new never worn pair of white jeans within the 60 day window and they would not take them. Order from someone else.”
“Same as so many others here. My husband—long time Peterman enthusiast— ordered a dress for me as a gift. Paid for expedited shipping. Card charged immediately. No shipping confirmation. Finally several days in, he called them; oh, item not in stock. Refund? Well, he seems to be having trouble getting one. The item is still listed on the website as if it were in stock. Sooo much wrong here, one has to wonder. Why do they charge before item ships? Why no notification item is not in stock? Why are out of stock items still listed on the site? Where is the refund— which ought never to have been charged in the first place, since the item evidently was not in stock when he ordered it? This all has the smell of a giant scam. Whatever Peterman might have been in their “Seinfeld” heyday, this is not the same company and should be avoided.”
“I never write reviews, but this is the worst company ever. I ordered a blazer in 42R. I am 6’ tall but have quite long sleeve length between 34.5 and 35”. Still, the blazer’s sleeves were WAY too long covering almost 1/2 my hand. The coat length, by contrast, was normal. So it was tailored for gibbons, basically. I was away this summer and was not there when it arrived. By the time I returned to the US and could try it on, just over 60 days had passed. I sent it back right away upon returning stateside unworn with all tags and explained that the fit was wrong and I had been away. They refused any refund or exchange, citing their very hard to find and basically hidden 60-day policy, and sent it back, KEEPING MY $. Total assholes who up their rules and then delight at screwing the customer by enforcing them instead of making the situation right. Reading these awful reviews, I see I’m not the only one. For the love of all that is good, STAY AWAY!!”
“Unresponsive company. Tried 3 x to execute a return. No response. Items look far bettered in catalog drawings. Probably why they don't use models. And overpriced for quality especially since they don't pay models. Won't buy from them again. They don't deserve it.”
“I ordered the Social Season, 1937 Cream Skirt, Size 8 and I wore it on last Sunday and it was just perfect for the occasion. I would love to see in Black, Size 8 in 37" in Length. Thank you for such a well made and beautiful Skirt.

“I have been a Peterman customer for thirty years. Not anymore. I ordered a dress in April. It finally arrived three weeks later. I’d spoken to a customer service person prior to ordering as to the fit so I would get the correct size. When the dress arrived it was too large. I sent it back and ordered the smaller size. Six weeks and three emails and two phone calls and all assuring me that the dress was *on it’s way*, I finally get a customer service person who says there are none in the warehouse and the back order is iffy. AND that it would take 14 days to get a refund!! So Peterman has been sitting on my $315 for two months now plus 14 days.
Will I ever order again?? No way. The quality of the clothing has gone down and so has the service. Shame on you J.Peterman where ever you are.”
“It seems to me that J Peterman has gone downhill since the pandemic began two years ago. They don't have anything too interesting and the men's clothing line hasen't changed much, and is somewhat overpriced. I don't know whether the company is now lacking creativity or if this is due to a supply-chain shortage coupled with inflation?- but J Peterman sucks now. For instance, I have seen the same pair of shoes offered for sale for the last two or three years, while they have been put on sale numerous times. Yet, instead of Peterman coming up with something new, it's just the same old merchandise, and it's dull and boring.
What happened to men's clothing that had some pizazz, such as a silk dressing gown or an interesting retro-styled suit? Again, the past two years and it's the same old stuff. Peterman shouldn't be offering this weird indie clothing year after year, and expecting that nobody will notice.”
“Bought an Aran jersey for about $150.00. One day's wear left loops of fabric. I returned it, second jersey, a replacement of the same item had the same issues.
I sent photos, requested a refund. They issued a return label, I sent item back. They have no evidence of having the jersey received. I discarded the return receipt. We have been back and forth about this return. They require proof of the second return of the item, thereby ignoring all my previous email documented with photos.
They lost a long-standing client.”
“God help you if you must exchange an item for a different size. First they sent the return slip & shipping label. Then they claimed they didn’t receive the item & I had to track it and get proof of loss. I emailed them the proof of loss document. J Peterman claimed they didnt receive the document. I requested the email address they preferred. I emailed the proof of loss document a second time. Again J Peterman claimed they didn’t receive it. Next J Peterman told me they hadn’t received payment from the carrier who lost the item & it was on me to track the payment down. I did. Once again J Peterman’s email addresses allegedly didn’t work. Finally I received a text from JPeterman containing a gift card. I tried to use the gift card online but at checkout there wasnt an option for a gift card. The item at issue here was a birthday present for a February birthday. It remains unresolved but it’s a given that customer service knows nothing, their emails don’t work & all they know how to do os steal your money.”
“I have purchased three items from J Peterman. All the items fit well and were impeccable made. I can’t fault the clothing or the quality of the workmanship. That said, the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The items take a long time to arrive. As much as 4-6 weeks. Additionally, there appears to be no mechanism on their website to leave a review of an item or to see if an item is out of stock. There is no communication from the company when an item is sent or out for delivery. You have to just wait patiently and cross your fingers. This is a failure of the company not the clothing. If you are willing to wait the clothing is worth it.”
“They charged my card for the full $330.55 for 5 clearance items on 1/17/22, immediately. No communication, no shipping, no credit despite numerous calls, waiting. I am trying to get help from my credit card company. Finally a couple of weeks ago, I received the 2 cheapest items, acknowledgement they canceled one item, and that 2 were backordered. No credit yet though. I received countless emails and texts and catalogs to sell me more. I have NEVER encountered such a company. Do business with them at your own risk.”
“Several shortcomings make this a company you may not want to do business with. 1) Items listed in catalog may be out of stock or back-ordered, you will NOT get a communication informing you of that after you have been charged 2) a size other than the one ordered may be mailed to you 3) when a refund is due for an out of stock item they will not reverse charge until you contact your bank to intervene, the only company I know that cannot reverse a charge after 40 days and several calls. Perhaps there is a reason they don’t offer PayPal or a similar payment option. Quality of product IF you get it is generally fine.”
“This is the worst company to do business with-run, don’t walk away from them. I ordered and returned a 685.00 leather coast 2 months ago and they have not credited me, have not returned calls, emails and when I speak with “customer service” they are useless and will not put me in touch with anyone who can solve this situation. They have stolen my money. I remember them from years ago and the products were great and the service was superb. From great heights, the fall is hard. Never will I ever . . . Order from J Peterman again.”
“canceled my order without telling me and without giving me my money back. i had to contact them and they never gave me my money back or answered follow up emails. i had to file a dispute with my credit card company to get my money back.”
“UPDATE: Since my warning review, J Perman Co recently refunded the funds taken (thief) before shipping, with a failure to ship any replacement.
Below is their matter-of-fact email using the email address they had blocked as the recipient, of my rightful inquiries.
J Peterman is 2-face!
Management appears to not govern customer care, a read of reviews reveals, if the item is immediately available all serve the purchaser well; if there are problems, integrity goes missing and communications become harmful! Online customers are untenably vulnerable.
Online Thief is in need of the public taking a more effective stand.
Filing a small claims action is a hugely ineffective and costly waste of time! My turnaround by my offender is not the norm. J P did not apologize or compensate for my disappointment and fight for rights time!
The market platforms like PCH still promote this company's power to harm an innocent intent to give their business choice to J Peterman!

JP Refund Notification:
Hello Lynn,
This is a confirmation that we have now processed your refund.

“January 19, 2022, Order Here is what my last effort email to J Peterman states:
"I put a substitute item in your CART either ship it or get your customer properly refunded!
As a clothing retailer, you are a great artist with a unique language that paints a word picture that drapes your outfits in a quite wonderful delight to wear with regard for ones' body.
So? Why is it that J Peterman owns such a low public rating by its customers? "
J Peterman apologized for a failure to tell me that what I ordered was out of stock (appears had been when pulled my cash), also told me would refund, then blocked my email(s) so that I had to use my business center email.
PLUS deliberately have not returned my cash!

“After ordering the long patch pocket coat in dark teal (Women's L) and THEN reading the reviews, I felt rather ill. However, I was pleasantly surprised! The coat arrived in about one day (super fast) and was really nicely wrapped (in a box, tissue paper, sturdy hanger, etc.). It is gorgeous! I'm tall so I was super happy that it was long and generously cut. Love it.”
