“It took ages for the emergency phone to be answered then you had to ring off to find a garage. Predictably the phone took ages to be answered again, so long that the phone went dead and had to be recharged. This was denied when a complaint was made. A poor company in my experience.”
“Dreadful company. Offered very little assistance, telling us we had to locate a garage whitest we were miles from home. When we complained they said there was no redress and they were not part of the ombudsman service. Good at taking your money but little else it seems.”
“I was issued with a £100 PCN (parking charge notice) after Rescuemycar.com recovered my car and decided to leave it overnight in a location where parking is prohibited.
Rescuemycar.com have rejected my request to reimburse me for the cost of the parking fine, pointing to its general cover exclusions, which state that is not liable for charges incurred by companies other than those it authorises. This is despite the fact the parking fine was issued as a direct consequence of a decision made by its authorised recovery agent – a decision I would not have made myself, and one that could have easily been avoided by a) parking elsewhere, or b) purchasing additional parking time at the location where my vehicle was left.
The company has confirmed to me that it is its official policy that, should it or one of its agents recover your vehicle and knowingly leave it parked illegally, the customer is the one responsible for resulting parking charge.
I am currently seeking to recover my costs through the Financial Ombudsman service.
So be careful: the breakdown cover might look like a bargain, but it could cost you more in the long run.”
“I have been a member for years but never needed to use the service. When i did call them it was in the middle of the day on a Friday and i was right next to key junctions in Wigan so very accessible. They quoted an hour and 25 mins for a recovery agent which i was disappointed with but then the recovery driver only turned up after 2 hours and 25 mins. I made another 2 calls to them in the meantime. I subsequently made a complaint about this poor service. I was told there is no time limit and therefore my complaint was bot upheld. In other words it could have been 4 hours. I immediately cancelled and have joined A A. Rescue my car will not refund the balance of my membership which lasta another 4 months because i have used their service even thought it is the poor service that is the reason for me leaving. Beware!!!”
“It's no wonder why there is such awful reviews of this company. The customer service agent was horrendous, really rude and patronising about the ordeal. They are incredibly unclear on the questions they were asking. Absolutely stay away from this company, will recommend others to do the same.”
“On Friday my car would not start and the remote key wouldn't work.
I called out RescueMyCar and the mechanic said my battery was not charging. He gave it a jump start and then did some other stuff and told me I was fit to go. No me of going to a garage and seemed surprised when I said I would give the car a longish run.
Next day the same thing happened and I phoned RescueMyCar who said it would cost me £150 to get some help because I had not taken my car to the garage.
I told them that I had not been advised to go to the garage but that made no difference.
I called out someone else who as soon as he looked at the engine asked who had been tampering with the battery? Turns out the mechanic on Friday had soldered the leads on the battery terminal.
He advised me to take my car to an auto elictrian ASAP
He also said that RescueMyCar should refund his call out fee.
I phoned RescueMyCar on Saturday but have had no reply
also tried to email them but that always fails
Avoid this company.
Wish I had read the reviews first”
“Vehicle locked itself with engine running. Initial text told us 1 1/2 hour wait. Had to call a further 3 times to chase, kept being told engineer delayed. eventually arrived just over 4 hours after 1st call. Have dismissed my complaint will not be renewing with RMC”
“They renewed the cover automatically. I did not need the cover, but they refused to cancel and refund the policy which had gone up by 50% because it was 18 days since renewal and past 14 days cooling off policy even though I had never used their service. Not even a partial refund.
Really bad.”
“My tyre was bursted I called them they refused to come as I don’t have spare tyre and puncture kit in my car !! Some should tell them if I have those things available why I suppose to call rescue I can fixed it myself !!!so I believe I wasted my money I was with AA before they never asked silly questions like that so I advise better to pay a little more and take cover from professional people”
“Tried for nearly an hour on the phone. Could not get through and had to use alternatives.. Absolutely shameful !!!!. I have no confidence in this company...”
“I had bought this breakdown for my son. Initially given a time of an hour but they kept changing the arrival time. Took 4 hours, the recovery truck came from Burnley, we are in Blackpool!!!!
They were quick enough to take the £40 payment based on totally unrealistic timings.
Avoid.”
“If I could 0 stars I would! The first time in 3 years I've needed them and after 35 minutes on the phone listening to an agent will respond when available I walked to a little village garage who jump started me immediately at no charge. I actually decided to replace the battery as being elderly I didn't have confidence in case I stalled. This garage got a battery delivered and fitted within 30 minutes. What stars they are. So, I kept the phone call going and Rescue my car hadn't responded before I turned the phone off and was on my way!”
“Very disappointing service, called the service desk about a flat battery and gave the location in north Wales only to be told via text that the rescue vehicle was coming from 85 miles away and would take over 2 hours. I phoned back to say I had managed to get the car jump started with the help of a few kind people passing by and to cancel the call out only to be told that they would not come out to the vehicle if the same problem reoccurred. Needless to say policy cancelled and back to my old breakdown company.”
“The service was abysmal; my car broke down in the middle of nowhere at 6pm with my two toddlers, and when I called them, they showed no concern. They provided inconsistent timing estimates, and one employee claimed there was a miscommunication, leading to a staggering 4-hour wait, which ultimately turned into a grueling 6-hour ordeal. It felt like dealing with a group of incompetent individuals who lacked empathy for my stranded situation with hungry kids. If I had known the expected wait time earlier, I could have arranged alternative transportation, but they continuously kept me waiting.”
“I can’t see how this company gets so many stars in reviews. The 2 times my daughter has needed it, they refused to come out with some get-out clauses. They are only any use in certain circumstances- which means you can’t rely on them. They might come up trumps depending on what’s wrong and where you are- or they might refuse to come out and you’re in a dicey situation. She is ditching them fast & going for one of the top 3. You get what you pay for.”
“Stay away . They have more time to listen to recorded calls than having the attitude to assist , train your supervisors , coach them to really understand what they are there for ! I’m out”
“Stay away. After given waiting times twice totalling 3 hours. I eventually got the car going myself after nearly 4 hours and called to tell them, I was still charged the £40 excess because the breakdown vehicle was 'on it's way'.”
