“scooter battery charger stopped working and we lost two full days of our holiday, and spent around 2 hours on the phone trying to sort it out. we knew the problem before calling and requested a new battery charger to be delivered that day but they insisted on various phone calls and making us charge it for hours and check it. Fortunately the second person we spoke made arrangements immediately and thus they finally agreed to send a battery in the evening after pledging our case, and it never turned up. After requesting a completely new scooter, it arrived lunchtime the following day, meaning that was a second day of our holiday was lost. Extremely disappointing given my dad couldn’t get around the hotel independently without the scooter due to his disability and we were on the last two days of our holiday. We received compensation for half a day. If we need to hire again we will not choose scootaround as they did not seem to understand how essential the scooter was for someone’s independence.”
“No brakes! Every time we went into the ships elevator, which is only about 2 inches deeper than the scooter length, we seemed to bump the elevator wall. If power is turned down to go very slowly wheels cannot pull themselves out of the gap between elevator floor and lobby floor, add power and hit wall. Several times I released the throttle and scooter kept moving once hitting a fellow passenger, no injuries thank God! Why are throttles no not progressive as on most motorized riding devices such as snowmobiles? And why no brakes, I am surprised these devices are even legal, or that cruise lines allow them on board.”
“The service people were good but the scooter failed due to a faulty battery. The cruise ship only had manual chairs as backup. On a good note, I got my back with effort.”
“The scooter worked fine but was usless to me on this ship. Had hard time getting it into the room and could not turn it around very easy once in. Could not leave in halls and the crowded elevators made it quite awkward to get on them with other guests. It was not as usefull as I was led to believe and as a result only used it first 2 days and then parked it in my room (Balcony Room) for the remaining 5 days.
Was disappointed with the information I was given and figured I wasted my money.”

“We used scooters in San Antonio and Disney. Treated very well. Went to Charleston, ordered scooter. No scooter, couldn't get in touch with anyone. Had to dispute charge on Visa, luckly got money back.”
“Our previous rental was great, but your records keeping needs review........ we have not (recently) rented a Scoot Around! Any rental we had with your company was last year. Please check your records.”
“I was not pleased with my recent rental. I just completed the survey sent to me but felt I should follow-up with the following remarks.
Being given better equipment to use. The scooter would not stay charged after leaving the cruise vessel. I know that the country that I was visiting is not flat land and I expected reduced battery life, but even with charging overnight, I had to push the scooter back to the ship on multiple occasions. The battery showed fully charged upon disembarking the ship, but within 30 minutes, it would be dropped down and show only approximately a half charge. I turned the speed knob almost completely too slow, as the terrain was not level, but this even didn't help. My guess is that the problem lies in the temperature difference. When leaving San Francisco, the outdoor temperature was around 90 degrees and the high temperatures in Alaska and Canada was in the 50's. I own a Victory 10 (4-wheel unit) and have never experienced these problems until the battery begins to fail. I assume that was what was occurring with your scooter.
I received the following email on 05 September of last year (2022):
“GOOD MORNING MR. BROOME
I WANT TO APOLOGIZE FOR ALL THE INCONVENIENCE CAUSED DURING YOUR TRIP. THAT IS NOT WHAT WE STRIVE FOR. I HAVE REQUESTED TO REVIEW FOR COMPENSATION WHICH MAY TAKE APPROXIMATELY 7-14 BUSINESS DAYS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR PATIENCE. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. PLEASE CALL 1-888-441-7575. THANK YOU

And have never received any further comments or information. I will definitely “NEVER” recommend your services to any of my other disabled veteran friends, nor anyone else for that matter. Your services “SUCK” and your customer service are even worse. I depend on a mobility device to get around and I know that you are in business to make money, but if you don’t maintain or replace your equipment when it is worn out (I also know that when a scooter is maintained as with the one I rented, that is just money in your pocket) then the disabled are abused as bad as if you were physically abused. Your entire business is built to serve the disabled, but you are definitely not doing your job. The disabled are doting on you to provide them reliable services and you are not doing the job.”
“This scooter was WELL used. There were scratches, a bumper that came off, the front and rear horn, and light did not work. I think your maintenance needs a kick in the butt.”
“The battery was faulty and died in the middle of the street. We actually used it a collective hour or 2 the entire weekend. We spent far more time trying to get it moving than we did actually moving. Fighting that chair put a serious damper on our mother & daughters trip to Las Vegas. We've never done that with mom and she was not happy. It'll never happen again. I nearly missed a show & did miss a previously planned very nice dinner because of waiting for someone to pick up the chair. It took hours! I then had to fight to have the charge refunded.”
“I was disappointed with Scootaround. My ECV broke on day 3 and they were unable to replace it until after my trip was over. So for the last 4 days of my trip I was left to my own with my disability struggling to participate with my family on our vacation. On 2 subsequent vacations I attempted to rent an ECV from them but they did not provide service in the areas I was.”
“The scooter I received was very uncomfortable. I am tall and there was not adequate leg room. The seat back was low and pressed on my lower back causing discomfort. We requested delivery of the scooter at 9 a.m. The scooter was delivered at 11 a.m. We rented the scooter for 3 days. They picked it up at 3 p.m. on the third day. With the late delivery and early pick up, it was like we were short changed on our rental. We were very disappointed and will not rent again from Scoot Around.”
