“Appear to be great as they are cheap. But you get what you pay for which is absolutely shocking after sales care.. When you try to contact them for any issues regarding the windows you have to email and wait for them to call you back which inevitably they don’t..When you called you speak to a woman called Jodi who is extremely rude and thinks that she speaks for the whole of the company.
I wouldn’t touch this company again if they gave me windows are free.
It was only after rating several issues with the windows that we realised that our windows were externally glazed. Went saying this to Smiths glass they replied that they haven’t done this for 19 years when I did mine in 2007 which means for the last 11 years I have had substandard windows which could’ve put my Home at risk.”
“Avoid this company at all costs, liars, cheats and downright thieves, excuse book as long as your arm, job still not finished 1 yr later and I’ve now heard that they’ve gone bust ! Just hope they don’t start up under a different name! 1 star is too good for them”
“Avoid at all costs. Replacement conservatory we were told would take 4 days took 5 months. Initial start date delayed due unavailability of parts, but we’re not informed.Eventually started a month late only to leave uncompleted after 3 days and a tarpaulin sheet fitted as a temporary roof for over a month due to unavailability of parts. So we were unable to use space over the summer and the lounge left full of conservatory furniture. The wrong type of gazing was delivered clear rather than opaque needed for privacy. One glass panel cracked on installation. Why start without everything you need to complete the work. Electrician couldn’t fit light package as requested due to incorrect design. Miss sold by salesman. 4 months after completion and we still haven’t received any paperwork. Zero communication from customer service and constantly chasing for updates, without satisfactory outcome. Tradesmen sent on days we said we’re out and didn’t turn up when we were in, despite days a week in advance. Only plus the tradesmen completing the work were very professional, polite and did what they said they would with what was available. The whole process was a complete nightmare from start to finish. Our next door neighbour used another company and the job was completed on time in 4 days. Save yourself a lot of stress and shop elsewhere. Not even worth one star.”
“In complete shock when I agreed an initial appointment time only to be called back by the sales person who insisted he could provide a quote if my husband was with me. I’m not saying this is sexiest but even after me saying, my husband is happy for me to make the decision and that I will find the door he still refused to the appointment time of my husband wasn’t present. I would like to think the preference, for us both to be there, was a sales technique. For a quote I highly doubt it was because of legal reasons!!”
“I would not let this company do any work for me ever again and if you are wise you will take note of what I have to say. They are what I would term as a cowboy outfit with inexperienced workers. It all starts with the salesman who calls around to your house to give you a quote for the work you require to be done, he gives you a quote telling you that all the workers are all employed by Smith’s Glass (THAT’s A LIE) and guaranteeing their workmanship, then he ask’s for a deposit and they require your bank details so that they can draw on the money in stages, some of the money is taken before any work is done even though you have given them a deposit in the first place. Their work is so terrible even after being told that they have done something wrong they continue to do the job stating that It will be okay and it will be put right later. Later never happened and because the bad work was covered up, short of taking it apart completely you don’t become aware of their bad workmanship until its to late and rain starts coming through the roof and they have taken all the money. When you ring the company to tell them you have a problem you speak to someone called GARRY in services he tells you that they will send someone round to sort it out and guess what they don’t turn up so you ring again and ask why to be told their van had broken down, so they book another date then you get told that they were called out to another area, they was informed of the problem on the 6th November 2023 and we are now in February 2024 then you get told that they haven’t got an engineer available and that they would call you when they have someone available (engineer that’s laughable and that’s an insult to true engineers) needless to say after months of phone calls there was more excuses than father Christmas as got present’s. So if you need work doing like facia soffit boards, double glazing, conservatories, or a porch built, I wouldn’t use SMITH’S GLASS if you want the work to be done properly.”
“Absolutely shocking service! Worst company I have ever ever come across the staff are just so unhelpful and quite frankly couldn’t care less about one single customer! Steer clear”
“Smith Glass should be a big fat zero but cannot do that option so 1 star is a compliment. The MD and their senior management are all cheats. Even their labour staff states that while they do the job, telling us that management are bad. The fascias, soffits & guttering were supposed to be fully replaced and as a safety they persuaded me that we had to pay for another £2000 for scaffolding but the workers did the rework without any scaffolds after 7 months delay leaving the house in a bad state. Damaged the pigeon proofing for the solar panels, damaged fascias from conservatory, broke roof tiles. All these extras we had to fork out another £2000 to get this all fixed. These people are a shambles and don't know why trading standards have not shut them down. Totally useless. Please stay away from this firm unless you like to have stress and headaches. I hope they get shut down.”
“Not enough time to type out a full review, sufficient to say that they lie about the initial price given and then take an age to return your deposit after bumping up the price by 30%. They lied during the initial appointment, they lied when arrived for the final measuring up, they lied about returning my deposit. Avoid these liars at all cost.”
“Gave them the time of day after they knocked on our door (we also need a new door). Salesman was sneaky, hid all terms and conditions, gave false information at the time of booking and totally overcharged. Trying to cancel a booking within the legal 14 day cooling off period and within the time frame that was given at point of sale is very difficult and they will do all they can to take your money. Gary is especially nasty, although I will say that Ryan was helpful and was the saving grace at the end, despite us ending up out of pocket with nothing to show. I’d avoid using them given their underhand sales tactics.”
“Avoid
How I wish I had seen these reviews before getting them to do my work.
I can echo most of the issues left in all the reviews left.
They are bullies, blatant liars, crooks who care about nothing else than themselves.
I had an extremely stressful experience with them and I would urge potential customers to avoid them at all costs.
They do not respond to letters or calls or emails.
Trading standards are involved and if necessary the court will too as my issues have been going on since Nov 21.
How these people sleep at night, I do not know.
Gary and Gary should be ashamed of themselves.”
“Unfortunatley there isn't a star low enough for this company. Sad to say I did some time working there and they don't pay and rip everyone off in their tracks.
I expect someone from the company will try to come on and argue otherwise, but fortunately I've kept all correspondence or lack of I should say. I've given plenty of time to pay (over 2 months) but as I haven't been payed for time worked I have been left with no choice but to leave this review.
They claim the old management team have all left and its all better now but its just the same.”
“Where do I start, the windows themselves look good, the price is good, but the service is appalling. I am locked into a legal process with Smiths, so I will resist saying too much. But anyone using Smiths should be aware they are not fensa registered as they claim, this will cause you serious issues if you do not seek planning permission, when it comes to selling your property. You can also be fined for carrying out works that are notifiable, hence using a competent person scheme like fensa is advisable.
If you, like I, have had windows and doors fitted by Smiths, then those are worthless without planning permissions... be warned!”
“They promise the earth take your money and then everything goes down hill from then. Never gets fitted when they say it will delay after delay. Then when they fit it its a bodge job. Didn't fit I believe they supplied 6mm instead of 8mm used a silocne bead that my grandchild could have done better. 5 months on glass mists up and I'm told they do not guarantee third party frame work (not mentioned when taking order/payment). They supplied a window thats not fit for purpose, did not measure correctly and fitted badly. Cowboys take your money and run DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY i wish I had ready these reviews before I got involved with them. BE WARNED BEWARE OF THESE FRAUDSTERS”
“I would not recommend Smiths I had a conservatory erected in 2014 the fitters were not very good at all in fact useless. My paperwork states that the guarantee is for ten years, my roof panels have condensation in them when I contacted Smiths I was told they are only guaranteed for five years when I stated that a five year guarantee is not mentioned on the terms and conditions I was told that no Window Company would offer a ten year guarantee BUT MY GUARANTEE STATES 10 YEARS. I went to Smiths premises in Wickford I met a member of there team I was kept outside the office and was told sorry it’s only a 5 year guarantee, I showed them my paperwork which states 10 years. Would I recommend Smiths NO WAY KEEP WELL AWAY.”
“DO NOT USE
We paid a deposit in March and still waiting for doors 9 months later
After loads of excuses due to covid and material shortage we have now been told that my husband has to fix their heating before they order our doors so they have kept our £700
My husband has contacted them daily but ignoring all our calls now
Be very careful as Gary conned us into using smiths and robbed us of our deposit and we were friend of the family and been treated like this
I have sent numerous emails and all been ignored now”
“PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY SMITH LTD. DO NOT USE THEM. BAD SERVICE, 0 CUSTOMER SERVICE. GARY is NOT DOING A GOOD JOB. IF THERE IS ANY DAMAGE TO FIX THEY WILL NOT DO IT. ALL SORTS OF LIES, THEY WILL TELL YOU SOMEONE IS COMING BUT IT'S A LIE.
SMITH COMPANY IS NOT A COMPANY TO DEAL WITH OR TRUST BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY.”
“These people have taken our money for windows and it's now been FIVE months with NOTHING to show, they've even just STOPPED replying to ALL messages!
BEWARE OF THE FRAUDSTERS!🤬”
“DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR. DO NOT USE. Shambolic service. 0 customer service. Gary is pressurising you to pay once the door is in place even when the job is not complete or there are damage to fix. Tells you it will send someone to rectify but nobody ever come and then he blocks your number. If I could give a 0 I would. Not a company to deal with or trust beware.”
“DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS SO CALLED WINDOW COMPANY. THEY ARE A JOKE, REFUSE TO RECTIFY MY ILL FITTING BATHROOM WINDOW. ABUSIVE ,OBNOXIOUS ARROGANT AND THATS THE OWNER, ALTHOUGH THE REST OF STAFF ARE MUCH THE SAME. THE FEMALE AT THE OFFICE MADE UP COMMENTS THAT WHERE NOT SAID, AND THEY USED THIS TO GET OUT OF COMING OUT TO SORT THE PROBLEM.......HOW CONVENIENT.
AVOID THIS COWBOY COMPANY .”
