“Poor customer service and unexplained extra charges. I had my renewal price and found that the premium had increased more tha expected then, in addition, an extra, non refundable charge was added due to an ongoing no fault claim. I also find that the contact telephone number is a chargeable number which led to my phone bill increasing by £30 due to waiting time on the phone. One call lasted 50 minutes which is unacceptable.”
“Went with this company for my car insurance as their quote was the lowest on Compare the Market. Unfortunately after signing up and paying, and with the insurance already in place, they emailed to say there was "something they needed to check" so we had to call them. They then proceeded to tell us that there was an "at fault" claim for one of the named drivers back in 2019, which was a total lie as the driver never made such claim and their current policy clearly shows 5 years no claim, as we had honestly declared in the application.
They tried to say this non-existent claim would raise the premium by £65! Naturally I said they can keep their policy and that I wanted to cancel while still within the cooling off period, so I can go with the next cheapest provider on the Compare the Market list which was only £15 more expensive, but hopefully more honest.
I was charged a £25 cancellation fee which was ridiculous, but I paid it on principle.
Clearly their tactic is to lure you in with the cheapest quote and then make something up to increase the premium once they've got you.
I'm surprised by all the positive reviews on other sites, but most are probably fake, or maybe they just choose to rip off the occasional customer. Well they won't have my well earned money, but they can have this 1 star review instead. And there's more coming. So for the £25 they got from me, they'll get a lot of bad publicity. Terrible business sense.
They are a total rip-off company and I'll complain to Compare the Market about them.

“I received my auto renewal which was more than double the previous year despite nothing changing! I phoned to cancel it and was told they couldn't find a cheaper insurer. I went online to the price comparison sites and found motor insurance for £575 instead of the £1272 that Swinton wanted. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!”
“I'm looking to cancel my policy with Swinton. I would expect the premium to not be paid for the remaining period of the policy.
Instead, Swintons are charging me nearly £300.
The reason is an unsuccessful claim that we made a couple of months prior. My son's bike was stolen, and I wasn't sure if it was covered by our policy. When I spoke to the team to ask, they suggested that I claim as that would be the only way to find out for sure. Which I did.
It turned out not to be covered. Shame, but I accept that - if it's not in the policy, then it shouldn't be paid.
But now I come to cancel the policy, and instead of having the remaining premium cancelled, Swinton are asking me to pay £287 for the claim that wasn't covered.
Is that not beyond ridiculous?”
“The worst insurance company.
They sent around a rude loss adjustor to figure out whether we would be covered. He came up with random excuses why we wouldn't be covered. We have had independent quotes from roofers and they explained exactly what was the problem which would be covered.”

“My husband and I both have Motorbike Policies with Swinton. Husband had accident 5 weeks ago, still waiting for Swinton to actually do anything, other than pass the buck! Live chat today, a lady told me that neither of our bike registrations show on their data, nor does our name or address. They quickly take payments every month tho. Ive just spoken to another woman to tell her we now need to stop the policy as the bikes been written off, and she asked me who has told us that!!! I have just suggested that they look into this entire shambles of a claim, and my own policy that doesn't exist and get back to me. I WILL NOT hold my breath. Absolutely terrible service, I will NEVER use Swinton again, even if they gave it for FREE! PS - I have given a 1 * as there is no minus *”
“Received letter asking I call them so I did and was told they had renewed my policy incorrectly and I need to pay them over the phone. I asked for this in writing and got a garbled reply. Received a further letter and called them again asked for details in writing again and lodged a complaint. Was assured my policy would not be cancelled but this was a lie as have on one hand received an email saying they are looking into my complaint and at the same time a notice of cancellation!”
“I don't want to say a bad word about anyone but I'd avoid Swinton ,lack of communication,had my policy cancelled,no correspondence email,text from them ,and all because they couldn't see a pdf file I'd sent them clearly (and didn't think to inform me to send it again )when spoke to them ,the call centre agent was rude and unhelpful,and then refused to tell me what information was missing,made a big contordiction , firstly saying ite pdf was blank ,and then saying the pdf was a pic of a v5 which couldn't see clear and that's why was cancelled,asked to speak to manager and was only able to do so cause I kept agent on phone for half hour,when spoke to manger ,she didn't want to help at all , absolutely shocked how awful they are ,and none of there agents have very good english”
“Never will I recommend swinton we had a flood jan 2022 we decided to claim as haven’t before they came round and gave the go ahead but then found asbestos so they removed all furniture so they could go ahead with the floor and removed all flooring. That was in October we are now living in cold conditions with a concrete floor and no furniture. So no I would never recommend swinton”
“Following an accident my motorbike was sent by yourselves for repair/assessment and was subsequently written of by 4th dimension, my policy details are attached along with the the BER notification from your repairers.
I have be waiting over 4 weeks for a refund payment but have not received it and have had no update regarding my case.
I have contacted Swinton claims and Ageas (who I believe are the underwriters and are supposedly dealing with my claim) no one is responding to my calls or emails and no one is taking any responsibility for dealing with my requests for an update.
Being without my only method of transport is having a detrimental effect on my life and is impairing my ability to work.
The lack of communication from yourselves is absolutely disgraceful 'customer service'. I took out my insurance policy with yourselves believing you to be a reputable company but your actions with my claim has led me to feel you are money grabbing, dishonest and unreliable. I will be making sure none of my family and friends ever insure anything through yourselves.
I require an answer regarding date, amount and method of the write off payment by 2pm on Wednesday 18th January or I will be seeking legal advice.”

I have been with Swinton for a couple of years, my insurance went on for automatic renewal, then I got a letter to say it had been cancelled, I was going to ignore it thinking it was a computer regenerated letter, but I rang up to be told that because of a claim I had made two years ago for a small caravan sink with a different company for £300, and which I had advised them about, I was told to write a letter in Ha! I told them what to do with the insurance!
They have since charged me over£30 admin charges to cancel my policy!
I am in my seventies and I’m last thirty years in my home I have made one claim for £200, plus the sink claim.
What a disgusting way to treat customers!”
“Found the quote for car insurance via Confused.com. it was the cheapest by far and included everything I wanted it to. Spoke to someone at Swinton to double check my details and to make payment. She was very courteous and polite. My policy was in place with 15 minutes maybe less. Very pleased so far with Swinton!

I did get a quote for home insurance. I only live in a detached 2 bed bungalow. Premium was well in excess of £650 , needless to say I declined the offer!”
