We are due to go to the cottage we booked for the 24/4/2020. We have only had a message from Sykes, to change the booking date. This is not acceptable to us because my dad has lots of appointments, ie oncology, cardiology, and scans 3monthly for aneurysm scans. So it’s not ok for us to do. Plus my holidays from work. I have tried to get a refund from my credit card, but because they have offered to change dates, at increased costs, they will only refund if the company goes bankrupt. We will NEVER BOOK WITH SYKES AGAIN. PLEASE BE AWARENAND READ THE CONTRACT AND T and Cs.

Covid-19 Refuses refund Terrible customer service over Covid-19, refuses to give refunds and expects you to rebook on different dates which end up costing you more money. Even though the government advise now is to travel unless absolutely necessary and and email from Sykes to say holiday is cancelled as a result, they refuse to give refunds

ZERO STARS......AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Agree with all previous commentary about their shody money grabbing behaviour around refusing to give refunds for bookings which cannot be fulfilled due to corona virus even when home owners have agreed a refund. Check out similar posts on trustpilot and facebook. Same goes for the useless travel insurance from Towergate which they sell on their site. Disgusting way to treat customers!!

Appalling company. The only thing they do quickly and efficiently is take your money everything else terrible. The only positive thing is judging by other customer reviews they’ll be out of business before the years out. One less rogue trader out there.

Sykes Holiday Cottages and property owners are profiteering out of the desperate situation we are in due to the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic by not offering refunds if you do not wish to rebook. You both need to accept some responsibility, and cancel holidays booked up until at least mid June, instead we simply keep being passed back and forth between yourselves and the owner of the property, and sadly neither of you will do anything to help. The owner of the property (Capel Bach) that we have booked, told us that it was up to you to cancel our booking and that we had to pursue this matter with you, they then promptly blocked my husband, how on earth can we be expected to deal with them in the future, having blocked us, even if we were able to amend to a different date? You have said that you are not sure what social distancing and non essential travel mean in regards to holiday rental cottages!? and up until Monday evening you were actively encouraging people to continue with their holiday plans “as we could isolate, whilst on holiday enjoying different surroundings”. Local Doctors have even been pleading with people not to go on holiday or even visit their second home, as they fear that the NHS capacity for locals will shortly be overwhelmed. In North Wales given the current Coronavirus Covid-19 crisis there are grave concerns about the increased pressure, that an influx of people will have on local services. People are best staying at their primary place of residence so that they can be near their medical care and support networks. There are less critical care beds in Wales than in the rest of the UK. Even though our Prime Minister has instructed us to only leave our home for very limited purposes, you have still sent emails out today that say “thank you for your email. Should you wish to cancel your booking with ourselves, as there are currently no restrictions on travel, just advisories, you would not be offered a refund. If you are due to travel within 6 weeks, the cost of your holiday would be forfeited.” What part of the government new rules in force; you must stay at home, does this organisation not understand?! You need to consider the position of your customers, instead of taking advantage of the vulnerable, many of whom are required to shield for 12 weeks and are unable to travel for the next 3 months as a minimum. Nobody knows when it will be safe to travel again, and due to the clear lack of customer care provided by you and your property owners we’re not comfortable in amending our booking to Easter 2021, even if able to. We do not know what holidays my husband will be able to take and neither do we know what will happen in relation to schools, our daughter will be sitting her GCSEs next year and there could be the possibility of a reduction in school holiday weeks due to the amount of time pupils are losing whilst the schools are shut, we simply do not know and therefore cannot commit to a future date. I understand that Sykes and the property owners are running a business, however a pandemic or natural disaster is beyond our control and is not covered by travel insurance. As a business you should not be running at a loss, relying on pre-booked money to keep your business afloat. You should have a working business model which ensures that you generate adequate profit to operate and not run at a loss. I'm sure as responsible business owners you will have mechanisms in place to protect them against force majeure - which means exceptions should be made when there are good reasons. A restriction on travel is surely a good reason and by not giving money back to people who physically can't travel to the location any more, is bad publicity for your company and will no doubt affect your future revenue. You are also acting unlawfully due to providing customers with unbalanced rights and excessive cancellation fees. Liz Saville Roberts AS/MP has also contacted you with regards to your unreasonable behaviour

Use Sykes every year but this will be the last time. Not only is this site not letting anyone cancel due to covid outbreak , they allow people to pay DOUBLE to what they originally paid to rearrange to another date. Which is disgusting. However, we have chosen a date where it is cheaper than our original price, yet they will not refund us the difference? So if I was to book it now (as a new customer) the trip would cost me less???! This random price increase is not stated on their website at all, and I have only found this out after rearranging our original booking. Theyre letting themselves down compared to other companies who are letting people cancel / rearrange for no extra cost. Will not use this company ever again.

#profitbeforepeople....I have lost nearly £400 to this company who are refusing to refund in the current Covid-19 outbreak, I have no words for what I think of this company and I hope the way they have behaved will be the demise of the company as they do not deserve the trust/respect off future customers

Had booked a group holiday at Easter, obviously cannot travel due to global pandemic and government restrictions, they are seeking to profit by hiking up prices for amended dates, and are not offering refunds. Similar companies (eg, AirBnb) have acted in good faith at this time and allowed people to cancel their bookings with refunds. Terrible customer service! Do not book with them.

Don’t book with Sykes cottages!!! They will not refund our payment for a 3 night stay in April. We tried to change the dates and the price has doubled. No contact from them and taking no calls. Disgusting customer service. Reported to watchdog and local MP.

My partner and I had two properties booked with Sykes Cottages starting Tuesday 24 March the day after it was announced by the Prime Minister and the First Minister of Scotland that only essential travel was allowed. We have tried repeatedly since Monday to get in touch with Sykes Cottages by telephone, Twitter and Facebook messages getting messages saying no refunds would be given but a change of date was possible. We have just spoken with an advisor who stated that it was not Sykes Cottages policy to give refunds. Every other holiday property we had booked has refunded our money without any quibble. Shame on Sykes Cottages for profiting from a state of emergency in our country!!

****NEVER BOOK WITH SYKES COTTAGES**** Very similar experience as Richard below. We had booked through Sykes Cottages for Easter Bank Holiday weekend , however due to the current situation happening all over the world and particular the UK being on Lockdown, we are unable to travel to our holiday booking. After getting in touch with Sykes Cottages to try and get a refund, they have been very unhelpful and unwilling to give any kind of refund and instead have responded ' it would be a loss in business for the owners '. Unfortunately the whole world is loosing out on business right now, but this situation is out of our hands. One option Sykes Cottages did give us was to book another time in the year or 2021 but there would be a fee involved & if the price of the property was higher we would also have to pay this. Im completely shocked at how this is being dealt with and I can certainly say I will never by using this company again or advise anyone else to. It is absolutely disgusting.

This company should be avoided at all costs. Its approach to the issue of refunds during the Coronavirus is positively immoral. We have lost £679 which they have retained when we had to cancel because of the movement restrictions and it is impossible to talk to them about some flexibility in individual circumstances. To retain cash in this way suggests they are on the point of collapse.
