We’ve stayed in many holiday homes and this was the worst. Do not trust their descriptions for holiday homes as our holiday cottage was so unloved and neglected and the outside area was not fit for purpose. Try finding a complaints process because it’s not easy at all!! Very disappointed and we feel ripped off!!

Be warned ! Even if your travelling companions die before your holiday, this company will show you no compassion. Even with over 6 months to re-let a property you will still have to pay a hefty chunk to cancel, despite using the £20 deposit offer

Absolutely unacceptable please DO NOT USE this company . My family booked a cottage in Suffolk to celebrate my stepdads 80th birthday - in our party of 7 was our 90 year old nan also . There was no heating whatsoever working !!!! I must of made about 8 phone calls to them to get the heating working before the rest of my family arrived stressing how important it was for the heating to work - it was November !! The owner was abroad . They gave us different ideas to try mainly leave it to see if it will come on ! It didn’t . We tried everything - the bedrooms were freezing and they told us to plug in some small electric heaters . This is not what we paid our money for . Although this is the owners responsibility Sykes really didn’t like it when I insisted if it didn’t work that we were moved to a cottage that did have heating . Moving forward the heating worked on the last day in the end - on our return we asked for a refund of some sort . It was agreed to give us 50% back / the owner agreed to this. This was a year ago now . Since then I receive many emails from Sykes asking us to book with Sykes , this week we decided to try them again even though I was dubious as we love the cottage we could see and the area . I paid the deposit yesterday and received a email in receipt and thank you for booking with Sykes. Then ruddy I receive a refund of the deposit - no explanation - no email !!?? I ring them and get told we have been blacklisted from booking with them !!!!!!!! So because we complained and insisted on some refund we have been blacklisted from booking ! I was never aggressive to them I was in fact in tears when I rang them at the time as so upset our surprise weekend was ruined by no heating . I was insistent on some kind of refund but I was not aggressive . So because we complained we are now not allowed to book with them . That I can quite easily deal with but the audacity abd non customer service is appalling !!!! I am in absolute shock !

reference number from Sykes Cottages: COR-106105-CF The order was cancelled when we arrived at the property and kept to waiting for more than 3 hours to find an alternative one. The waiting caused a penalty charge of 20 pounds by the parking. Very bad attitude to complaints. Never Sykes.

Worst company there is to do business with. My mother is a pensioner with COPD and numerous breathing disorders. She booked a cottage and they would not confirm where the location of the cottage was. She was sent her information and it turns out its 30 foot from a main road. When she called and asked nicely to be moved they said no. She would have to pay over 180 and thats final. She asked to speak to a manager and they refused and said there is no manager. She authorised me to speak on the account and all they said was "its in our terms and conditions". No care or consideration for their customers. I said I would write a review and they said thats fine. Customer service is non existent.

As many previous reviews this company is a ripoff. They have managed to circumnavigate the law with their low deposit. DO NOT get drawn in I have now wasted over £300 because we are unable to take our holiday and with 5 moths to go they insist on full deposit, many for nothing. Customer service non-existent no answer to emails, voice options make difference you still get someone that you have explain everything to. DO NOT TEMPTED. I wish I had read the reviews first.

Maggies Retreat Briston Location excellent, however this has to be the worst cottage I’ve ever rented. Shocked a property can be rented in such a state of poor repair, and very unclean. No key lock on back door, so door unlocked all day and night, insecure fitting door, interior conservatory door too dangerous to use as jams and does not even fit correctly. Broken glass in bedroom mirror door, ceramic soap tray in en-suite shower hanging off wall and insecure to use. Didn’t look or feel like bungalow had been cleaned or vacuumed in a very long time, thick dust everywhere. Really disappointed and will certainly never recommend this cottage 😡

A HARD LESSON TO LEARN !! DON’T get lured in by the ‘low deposit’ offer !!! If you need to cancel your booking you Have to pay the FULL 30% deposit, Even if you contact Sykes within 7 days of making a booking, with 7 months to go before the date of the holiday ........ Unfortunately there’s no cooling off period as there is with many products/services, you’re not covered for holidays under the Consumers Rights Act or Distance Selling Regulations. Sykes insurance will only cover for cancellation if there’s a death in the family, Pregnancy related problem, serious illness or redundancy ! ....So Look Elsewhere for your holiday insurance too! I was offered the chance of changing the date of my holiday but they forgot to mention if the week I chose was less money I’d still have to pay the full amount of the original booking (£600 difference) ! By the time I found this out the taste left in my mouth was too bitter to bear, I couldn’t bring myself to throw good money after bad! Myself and my family left disappointed in the service and too affected to want to continue the booking with Sykes or any of their cottages. I felt I had no other option than to bite the bullet, pay the £700 + DEPOSIT to CANCEL my booking ..... and never the Twain shall meet again !

In my opinion, a total rip off company. Booked a house for the August summer holidays (7 months away) via their website lured by the available low deposit scheme, we also included cancellation insurance. 6 days later we tried to cancel and were told it would cost us just under £800 to do so as the cancellation insurance did not cover us!! The law states any contact should be fair and reasonable and not unduly one sided, Sykes are flouting these laws using a loophole in the distance selling regulations, yet they state themselves they are a "booking service" which we understood to be subject to these regulations. We are left feeling robbed and needless to say, will never be using Sykes cottages again. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Big lesson, check the trustpilot and trip advisor reviews before booking. Company rip you off, customer service non existent. Spent too much time and energy sorting out their mistake.

Nice website that makes reviewing options a pleasure. The transaction went through without incident and Sykes made several follow-ups to ensure all was well (a nice touch). We will definitely use them again when booking holiday cottages.
