Our guide was great, and travelling around was very smooth. However, the hotels were mainly disappointing compared to other similar trips we've been on.

I was blown away by my Toucan tour (Road to Vietnam). I got an absolute bargain, and the trip was exactly what I was looking for and more. It covered all the places I wanted to see, accommodation was much better than I expected and the tour leader was a wealth of information. I couldn't recommend Toucan, and more specifically this trip more highly.

Make sure that you are careful when booking a trip as even though it says you will stay in a single room, you most probably end up sharing. Unless you pay a single supplement on top of your booking. This was not made 100% clear when I booked.

we went on a family trip to Peru - amazon jungle, inca trail/machu pitchu, lake titicaca, etc. Overall, we really enjoyed the whole experience. The only downside was that 3 members of the group (including my daughter and myself) got food poisoning during the inca trail. What traspired was that the tour guide/porters did not have an adequate medical kit with them, they were not really geared for dealing with medical emergencies with the result that we had to track back down to the nearest town with English speaking medical doctor (which was some 7 hours away) which meant that we wasted a lot our holiday time and money. To us, it seemed that the separate Inca trail guide was more concerned about the tip that we were going to give him/porters than the well-being of the tourists!

I travelled with Tucan through Central America (Mexico City to Panama City). The trip was great, so many things to see and do and I rarely felt at risk of being mugged or anything.

I took an 11 day tour to Costa Rica last September 2013 and I had a really good time. We were about 12 people in the group and Becky, our guide, was always flexible, friendly, and gave us suggestions of where to go and what things to do during our trip. I traveled by myself and had never been to Costa Rica before, and I really enjoyed the trip. I would use the company again.

I've just returned from a toucan travel trip from Delhi to Kathmandu and just loved every minute of it! The tour guides (Bishal, Beebal, Pravash and Prajwal) were all lovely and very knowledgeable. I couldn't imagine the journey through India and Nepal with any other guides!! I would definitely recommend these guides and this tour to anyone who wants to really get involved in experiencing these countries. A fantastic holiday, the best ever!! -Kathryn Law

I recently completed the Southern Africa loop with tucan. Overall the trip was ok but I think it's important to share some of the frustrating parts so other travellers can make an informed decision before booking because I wouldn't have booked had I known. The chores (cooking, washing up and truck cleaning) dominate the trip. After many long full day drives you get no time to relax as you have to clean up after or cook for 25 people. Cooking can take up to two hours and washing up has to be done by another group. Some camp sites have amazing pools but if you're cooking or cleaning you don't even have a chance to swim. While I don't mind helping out I don't go on holiday to spend most of my free time doing chores especially when some people don't pull their weight which caused a lot of friction in the group. I think tucan really need to consider hiring a cook like other over landers do to reduce the amount of work for passengers. The cost would be minimal but it would make a huge difference to the experience. The other problem with camping is we stayed in very isolated sites with absolutely nothing to do and no where to walk to the majority of the time. This meant a lot of wasted time sitting around in the middle of nowhere when I wanted to be out exploring Africa and meeting locals. We had two different tour leaders. The first was pretty good and gave us lots of information. The second was pretty useless and spent all the time in the front of the truck away from the group. Overall, I would have preferred to pay a bit more money and go with a different company as my main memories of Africa will be cooking and cleaning.

I travelled with Tucan through the Balkans and Baltics and it was great. I loved the fact that they had arranged all the travel and accommodation but once we had arrived at our destination we were free to do our own thing. It gave everyone on the tour a chance to see and do whatever it was that interested them in each place we visited.

I have been on 19 adventures trips, with at least 7 different companies and intend to do many more. This trip was mostle very good (especially Lake Orhid), but I was very much disapponited with the following drawbacks: 1. The Hotel in Skopje was nice except we seemed to be next to a nightclub which was booming music till 1am (my room was partly vibrating with the noise) and we also had to get up and leave very early the next morning as part of our schedule, so it wasn't a good location for sleeping. 2, Budva was a very lovely resort and it was exasperating to be staying so many miles outside and away from it in a hotel surrounded by farmland and farm like noises. We also had then to run the costly gauntlet of getting ripped off in cabs every time we went to and fro to Budva from our hotel. From what i could see in Budva there was very cheap accomodation available within 5 minutes walk of the beach and feel the itinerary in the Brochure should be more transparent honest about the location of the accomodation being so far away from the resort. I haven't had a problem like this to this extent with any other operator and it makes it difficult for me and other travellers to trust future Tucan itineraries. 3. The Hostel type accomodation in Dubrovmik was very poor, but that didn't actaully worry me, what did was that i was next door to a very major building site, with a ridiculous amount of constant noise from very early in the morning. There is no way tucan cannot know about this (or there is something seriously wrong with communicattions) so it does seem appaling to deliberately situtate Tucan customers there, when no other person in their right mind would stay there for free next to the very nosiy buliding sites (With pneumatic drills etc). The Balkan countries were great and I dont mind that we had 2 coach/bus breakdowns, with very lengthy delays (as that is just misfortune) but the issues I detailed above don't compare favourably with the higher standards of service and more appropriate haccomodation locations that I have had in all my other adventure trips (across a variety of operators that I have used in the past).

I went on the Bex South American Explorer with guides Fabiana and Nienka. I had a really wonderful time during the 112 days. Also want to mention that Alfonso the driver was superb. So much more then just a driver. He is a real credit to Tucan and a valuable asset. The Bex tour is a brilliant way to get around South America.

We completed the Sacred Valley and Inca Trail trip with Tucan. It was a 7 day 6 night trip and all the accommodation and most of the meals were provided in the price. The guides provided were very friendly and very knowledgeable and the 2 guides stayed with the group for the whole trip. The setup of the hike was amazing, the porters were great and prepared delicious meals and prepared all the tents so when you arrive at the destination you could relax. I found the whole trip great value for money and would recommend Tucan to anyone about to take on the Inca Trail.

Trans Mongolian Railway 15 July - 4 August 2013 On the whole, the tour was well organized, but, although she was charming, our tour guide (Leena Nair) was very inexperienced, with very little or no knowledge of the countries visited! I would have liked much more background information. This was very disappointing and, for this reason, I may or may not recommend TT...

Loved my Tucan tour in South America. Our guide and driver were first rate, and the truck was amazing, went everywhere and so comfortable. Experience of a lifetime!!!

Tour was advertised as starting in Delhi but didn't really start (that is meet up with group) until Agra. So in Delhi there was no tour leader and I was on my own even though I was paying for a guided tour. That said, the tour guides in both India and Nepal were excellent and the trip was very interesting.

I was very pleased with Tucan; from the booking process to the end of the trip. I would use them again and recommend to a friend. Also, very good value for money; lots of extras that other "cheaper" companies do not include. Very happy!

I enjoyed having accommodation & travel all taken care of, while having the freedom during the day to do as I liked. By going out by myself, i got to explore more. The accommodation was basic, but adequate. And it was good to travel using local transportation. It provided a feeling of being part of the culture...just a bit. I appreciated being a part of a small group. There were enough people for company, without the big group mentality.

My trip from Mexico City through Belize to Antigua, Guatemala, was a great trip and I was able to see and do most everything I hoped to do. My fellow travelers with Tucan Travel were enthusiastic, guaranteeing a great time for all. regardless of our differing ages. Some of them are traveling on to Costa Rica and then to Panama with the same tour leader, Becky. She is a great gal, originally from New Zealand but more of an Aussie now, but has just purchased a home in Antigua, so she's making Guatemala her home, with two adopted deaf Guatemalan children from the orphanage at Rio Dulce, Guatemala, where she worked as a volunteered some years ago. You can see her picture in the new Tucan catalog. My days in Mexico City at the start of the trip went well. Of course, one could spend months there, exploring the city and its environs. During my five up-front days in Mexico City, it turned out that I was staying at the Majestic Zocalo was right on the Zocalo for the end of the Independence Day celebration and the arrival of the President of Mexico for the National Earthquake Preparedness Day on Oct. 19, the anniversary of the devastating Mexico City earthquake from 20 years ago. My hotel window had the best view of the Zocalo all the time. Visiting Teotihuacan twice was fine, as I was able to see different parts of the site each time, and climb the Pyramid of the Sun twice with two different groups. The accommodations with Tucan along the way were adequate--and a few fairly good. Fortunately we had A/C in most tropical locations in the rooms at night. The chicken buses in Belize were an experience but worth it. I enjoyed the itinerary, although I would have preferred an additional day in Oaxaca and also in Merida but perhaps one less day in San Cristobál. While at Merida, I did the optional trip to Uxmal--definitely worth it but had to skip the cenotes trip. However while in Playa del Carmen, I was able to visit Tulum in the morning and found a place nearby with cenotes that I did on my own in the afternoon. The most challenging thing for me was probably the caving near San Ignacio, Belize, but I managed to crawl/wade through just fine. One unplanned event that we all go to experience was in San Cristobal, where the bar owner of a place that Becky knows invited our group to his daughter's quinceañera--a huge event that kept the tequilla flowing all night! Lots of drinking and dancing! My few days in Antigua should have been longer. Hikes up to the Pacaya Volcano have been limited to the first ridge right now so it is a shorter trip. The trip to Chichicastenego is very touristic and a bit over-rated, as the Mayan villages near San Cristobal are more interesting and authentic. Besides the Mayan folk art marketed in Chichicastenego is overpriced for tourists and the same items can be purchased in the better shops in Antigua. I should have had time to visit Lake Atitán--but perhaps on another visit. I will probably kick myself for not continuing on with my group to San Jose, Costa Rica. But I needed to get back to L.A. As an adventure tour, this itinerary was a great choice and I really appreciate all you did in setting it up and planning the extras through Kamino Tours--including the airport transfer from Antigua to Guatemala City, which I would never have figured out on my own. I was healthy for the entire trip--fortunately. And all the medicine I brought was not really needed--so I gave most of it to others for their on-going adventures in Central America. I was the oldest person of the group, except for two ladies from Australia who are in their 50s but did not do some of the more active things that some of us chose to do.
