I have to say poor as obviously you have not paid any attention to my review when i first came back from my trip. No one so much as responded so why do these servay. I object to our transfer being 60.00 each way X2 and partner X2. The cost was 4240.00 when I found out a cab fare would cost 20.25 X2 bing no more than $50.00. I would still like to be reinbursed!!

Hi Marie, I apologise for not responding sooner to your concerns regarding transfers. Your private transfer in San Jose was $59 per car each way for up to three people. This is more expensive than using public transport as it provides the security and reliability of a fully private service. In our pre-departure information we also give advice on how to make your own way to the joining hotel, giving our travellers the opportunity to make an informed choice on how they wish to travel from the airport. Please rest assured we are not attempting to scam anybody. Your tour dossier has the information below on how to join your tour independently: Making your own way If you would prefer to make your own way to and from your hotel, there is a reservation desk for taxi services at the airport. They offer a set rate for taxi carriage from the airport to certain destinations within the city. The rate should be US$22-$25 (San José airport is roughly 17km from the city centre). You simply purchase a taxi voucher to the required destination (give them the name of the hotel) and present it to the driver. There is no cash transaction between the client and the driver, and these services are generally safe and reliable. There are also public buses to the centre. These buses make regular stops directly in front of the airport. Buses cost 210 colones (approximately US 50 cents), and depart every five minutes. The bus will take you to a terminal located at the western end of San José. This is within walking distance from the city's main public bus terminal, the ‘Coca Cola Bus Terminal’. Taxis are readily available from here and should cost roughly 1000 colones (approx US$2.50) to the hotel. As you booked through a travel agent I am not sure if you received this information or not, but it should have been included in your pre departure tour dossier which is freely available on our website: http://www.tucantravel.com/tour/dossier/costa-rica-encompassed/cer. I hope that helps to clarify our transfer services. Kind regards, Becca @ Tucan Travel

I wrote an e-mail to Tucan at the time of my Tour ending and received no response. I was happy with the experience of the Countries I visited BUT was not happy with the behaviour and attitude of the Tour Leader. This was all contained in the mail that I sent.

Loved everything about the tour! Our guide was amazing - full of cool stories and great recommendations! She made sure everything went smoothly, so we all could relax and enjoy the tour! Cambodia was awesome & I had some of the best time at the tour ever!

An engaging insight into aspects of Borneo which featured the adorable, number one reason for going, the orang utans, made this a memorable adventure holiday. However, the unplanned, such as : the fireflies late night river trip, snorkelling with Captain Jonathan and rain forest escapades with the knowledgaeble Scottish man added to our enjoyment. The small size (9 in our party) led by the attentive Ding singles out Tucan as a company which provides a more diverse itinery than other companies. Well done. We loved it and would not hesitate to use the company again. Mo Wood of Worcester

The tour to Sri Lanka was a great tour with a very wide variety of experiences, covering the whole country. We were led by a very friendly & knowledgeable guide, who made our enjoyment his top priority. The tour was also extremely good value for money

I have traveled with Tucan on 5 trips and I have another planned in November. Overall, I have enjoyed the experience. The guides are generally knowledgeable and help you get the most from your trip. I would recommend Tucan for anyone who wanted a genuine travel experience but with the benefit of having a group and guide.

An adventure of a lifetime. What sights. Loved it. But my tour leader Chris Jones, was a big reason, well informed. language skills. well prepared. My trip went smooth. And for Southeast Asia nothing goes smooth. He is a gem. don't lose him. Bad things, a home stay followed by a 13 hour bus ride, Not good. Some hotels, were not that good even for trash packers. Thanks for the trip. I will use Tucan Tours again. Thanks Rick

Well organised tour, with an excellent tour leader. Hotels were well above expectation & l ideally located. It was my second 60 plus day tour with Tucan Travel & I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.

Organized and informative guide who was always willing to go the extra mile to accommodate. Ended up booking through a third party though because it was cheaper. It should always be cheaper booking direct!

We took the Mayan circle tour last summer and are guessing that our guide Lisa never sent the feedback forms to you or we (and fellow travellers who we've kept in contact with) would have heard back from you. Positives :itinerary-places visited negatives :accommodation in caye caulker and Flores was disgusting. We expected basic not broken noisy and mouldy rooms. Ridiculous transport in vw vans where you had to travel 6 hours and not have a seat you can fit in as a normal sized person. These are minor niggles the big one was the tour guide-Lisa. Rude -if she didn't want to answer a question, help you or not interested shed ignore you or walk away mid conversation. Selfish - whenever there was a front seat available on a mini bus she would take it and even told one of the 6' girls who got there first to get out as it was her seat. Selecting best rooms for herself (confirmed by hotel manager in Rio dulce) and generally putting herself before the group in all situations. She was very organised at least and incredibly nice on the last night for some reason! Unfortunately she has put us off using Tucan again.

I recently did the "Patagonia Discovered" tour. While the scenery and the people in the group were amazing, Tucan was a big disappointment. Lack of maintenance of their vehicle led to a breakdown, meaning we missed out on seeing key sights and having to take public transport for the remainder of the trip. This was compounded by missed lunches and hotel mix-ups. To top this off, when the group complained to Tucan at the conclusion of the trip, there was no apology but just a list of defensive excuses. Patagonia was beautiful, go see it, but do it with another tour company.

I've travelled with Tucan twice now, to India/Nepal in 2009, and to Brazil/Argentina/Uruguay in 2013. Both occasions were fantastic. They were value for money in terms of accommodation quality (especially in South America), the places we saw and itinerary were incredible (particularly in India) but most importantly the guides on both were absolutely brilliant. Papi in India and Cristina in South America actually made the trip for all of us - nothing was too much trouble, and although it was technically work for them, they always made sure we had a great time. I'd definitely travel with Tucan again if I were to do a trip of this nature, particularly due to the return discount.

Overall I had a great experience travelling with Tucan. On the whole we were well looked after and went to some fantastic places. However, there were several issues that cropped up that led us to question the professionalism of the tour leader. For example, we had paid a lump sum of $800 cash at the beginning on the tour, for things like buying food etc. Towards the end of the trip, we found it hard to believe that all of this money had been spent on our food. We were living off basic (and cheap) things like pasta and sauce, and only once or twice bought premium products like nice cheese and wine (even though I had made it clear that I do not drink wine). Thus my money was basically spent on the tour leader and driver enjoying their alcohol. Speaking to others on the trip who had been on tours with different companies, at the end of the tour they had received a break down of the costs incurred and always got a refund of any money unspent. I think we deserved this kind of openness. Especially as many of our scheduled meals from the budget did not even happen due to varying reasons. At times the group morale turned unpleasant because of the relationship between the tour leader and driver, as they often had strong disagreements. Bumping into another Tucan Tour towards the end of our trip was an eye-opener. It seemed that the other group were getting far more benefits than us, such as their driver taking them to places where we would have to pay for our own taxi, and them having better quality meals. Also, when they went out for meals when they were meant to have a camp dinner, they would be given the money back that was budgeted for that meal. This never happened to us. I had to stay in hospital for a few days, whilst the tour carried on without me. It worried me slightly that I had not once heard from my tour leader until I emailed her on the fourth night of me being in hospital. It is a shame that these things happened as it overshadowed an otherwise brilliant trip. I know that the job of a leader and a driver is a relentless task, and most of the time they were great, but the issues that cropped up did affect us quite a lot. For these reasons, I have been put off travelling with Tucan again.

I've an American and have been on two tours with Tucan - one to Central America and one to Eastern Europe. One alone, and one with my wife. Both have been amazing experiences and we are planning on going on our third tour with Tucan the summer of 2015 (South America). The tour guides have been more than great and the people that go on these tours are pretty good folks. You should make friends. We did, and had a great time with them. I suggest putting yourself out there and being social. You are not forced to, and if you want to be more solitary, you can be. You're never forced to do things with others. It just made our experience more fun! And just to let you know, before we went my wife wasn't too keen on doing a tour. She has now been converted. This is NOT luxury travel. If you're expecting that, you will be disappointed and should choose a different tour company. The hotels are decent, and you generally use public transportation. This adds to the experience, in my opinion. What I like best is the flexibility. You have plenty of time in each place, and you really can choose what you do. The hotels chosen are more chosen for location over luxury. You are always put in a good spot in the various countries. In addition, all the worries of making the necessary arrangements are taken care of. In short, Tucan is highly recommended by us and we will be traveling with them again!

We loved our 6 week Nairobi to Cape Town trip. Tanya our tour leader was sensational, a true profession who knew her craft so well. Only thing that would have been nice would to have had a bit more of a diverse group, so many Australians (I am one of them). Thanks for a great tour!
