“The course comntent is very good and provides very relevant information.
However, the session assessments are sometimes bit of a drag. The same question is asked multiple times and even though it says "short answers, the expected response if 250+ words.
Also, some of the assessors of the assignments do not [rovide helpd+ful responses. I have been lucky the new assigned assessor is pretty good with her response4s.
I suggest n+more contact hours with the course administrators as I only hear from them if i have fallen behind on admin tasks.”
“My application experience was a positive one. The online learning program is easy to follow and the support from the tutors is excellent. I have found the course very interesting and thought provoking in that it has been quite challenging.”
“I have found the learning platform and the explanations of how things work very clear and thorough. I especially like the content which has been very helpful in my work already. The application process was very clear and the personel were great. Q & A is good. I would like to have better access to my account as I am on a weekly payment plan but can't find any statements to verify my instalments.”
“Great course - however I believe that some of the assessments are not suitable for people who are studying away from the University and access to trainers and assessors and training rooms with the relevant equipment etc that can be used for roleplays etc. Students who can access face to face and have access to all of the training resources are at an advantage compared to students who are studying on line and in different areas of Australia and who have to rely on their own resourcefulness to accommodate the expectations for the assessments. It is always stated that Swineburne is there to help but getting that help is a little difficult at time and also to get a response to certain questions is not satisfactory and again takes time to recieve a response. I had no access to anyone else who was completing the course to network with and Swinburne did not offer a list of names of people who would be happy to work with each other. The practical workplacements for me were easy to organise but I believe because I did not have access to a trainer and assessor - but relying on the workplace supervisors to sign me off - the Third party reports should cover all the tasks to be completed listed in the third party report so that all the role plays are completed during work placement and access to the necessary equipment and people - can be marked off. This document needs to be written for easier comprehension. The nurse on my workplacement took this document home with her and spent her own time filling it out and commenting where she was able too as no time is given to complete this document during working time. I was grateful to what she wrote and appreciated her time in doing this for me. Most people would not have done this. The online platform is good to use but because my internet is so slow it takes a long time to load and to read the information.
The course is put togerther very well but information needs to be reviewed as many grammatical errors and copying and pasting information especially in assessments where the same senario is used but nothing has been changed to reflect the content - peoples names etc.. Some areas are very hard to comprehend what is stated and what the expections of the task is. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to commment”
“Study materials provided in LMS very useful, course instructors reply promptly to our questions and clear answers given to our doubts with all necessary links and information”
“My experience so far is positive.
The dashboard is user friendly and assessments are relatively straightforward.
If I was to find an improvement it would be that the resources lack all the information required to complete part of the assignments.
Being a Cert IV - not a Diploma, I would have expected all the information required would be in the resources.
A view echoed by other students in the live Q&A sessions.”
“The application process was simple and seamless. I am finding that the course itself is not what I expected, a lot of theory and not a lot of actual design. I find our trainer difficult to contact at times and feel that they don't really look at our work, often receiving generic statements (check referencing, when referencing is never noted as a requirement of the assessment itelf). I would highly suggest reconsidering the need for role-play scenarios as part of the course. While I understand the meaning behind it I have found it difficult and stressful to find other students available to do the role play. We are all online for a reason as we have different schedules, there has to be an alternative to role play.”
“The application process was easy. The online learning platform is good but there are a few typos. There are also a couple of answers in the learning checkpoints that are incorrect. Makes it hard to learn when what you are reading is wrong. The other thing is the length of time it takes to have assessments marked. I am still waiting for a correction to be marked in module 3 when I am half way through module 4. Overall it is a good learning experience.”
“The application experience was so smooth. The team were prompt and helpful, and took the time to discuss options and the bigger picture. The platform is easy to use, the professors and support team are also quick to respond which is extremely helpful for people like myself who are studying part time whilst balancing two jobs.”
“Online learning is great. Easy to use.
Unfortunately teachers are very hard to get hold of, and can take numerous days to get back to you. This massively slows down progress.
Online classes are during the day which is counter productive when you work (whole reason for studying online).
The recorded q&a sessions have been the biggest help.
While not perfect, l am finding online is working for me. And l do eventually get help on what l need.”
“From the first interaction when I enquired about studying with Swinburne online, the support and advice I received was very informative, thorough and things were explained to me in great detail. My course guide was sent to me and they made the enrolment process nice and simple.
I have completed one unit and I’m onto my second, the course information and resources are very informative and the learning materials are nice and interactive.
My trainer is very helpful and responds promptly within the timeframes outlined in the introduction.
So far my experience with Swinburne has been excellent and I’m looking forward to continuing my studies until completion.”
“I have been extremely pleased with the guidance and support provided by my assessors, Vicki Roberts and Irshad Cadar, as well as the assistance from the student support team. In particular, I have worked closely with Allen and Raz, who have been very helpful. The only issue I’ve encountered is related to the policy that requires completing and submitting assessments before moving on to the next module.
This policy has posed a challenge for me because I have limited options for who I can ask to assist with the role-plays, and coordinating schedules with these individuals, who are both very busy, is difficult. As a result, I have completed all of my assessments except for the role-plays. If not for this, I believe I would have finished the course by now.
That said, when I have requested the opening of the next module, Allen and Raz have been very accommodating in allowing me to continue my studies by opening the module. This is the only issue I have experienced. Otherwise, I have been delighted with the service provided by Swinburne. Kath Clark”
“Overall it's great for self-paced learning. Great that's there's no fixed time structure and students can complete their modules as quickly or slowly as they desire/are able to with their schedules.
Negatives are that you cannot progress to the next module without submitting all the previous assessments first. That would normally be okay however majority of the assessments involve other people's input (e.g. roleplay with other people, roleplay with assessor, assessor's review). This significantly slows down the pace of completing the modules due to needing to wait on other people. It does provide a break for students but for those who want to continue through as quickly as possible, it holds us back.”
“The application experience was easy to get through. I have successfully copleted the first three modules of the course. I studied and competed my MBA online with Victoria University, we had a live lecture once a week with each module. Which was very helpful, our tutor's also rang us at least once a week, and we submitted our assessments to them through email to check and give advise on before we submitted them to be marked. I fel that this is something that Swinburne Open Education could look at doing. Having the Q&A seasons in the middle of the day really doesn't suuit a lot of people who are working and studying at the same time. Especially if they are studying online for the first time. I feel that there isn't enough guidence with the material in the modules for the amount of money that is being paid for the course.”
“Being a mature age student, I didn't know how I'll handle studying after so long. The assessors were great and will go out of their way to help.
My score would have been higher if I didn't have so much of an issue trying to upload my portfolio as there was a maximum limit you can upload at a time. This will need to be reviewed.”
“I feel as though the most difficult part of the application experience is finding a course you’re passionate about and seeing it through. I am so glad that before any process began, the administration asked a you a series of questions to see if the course is the right one for you.
The online learning platform is easy to navigate and I find that being able to see the checklist of modules is motivating.
The Assessors are quick to respond and are helpful as well.
My course is very technical and the role plays are tricky to script out but it does give me the makeshift experience of what it’ll be like once I enter my field of interest.”
“I had a lot of issues with my enrolments into each block for my course, and I was always assisted so quickly by Brittany in Student Services. She was wonderful!”
