Etsy SUCKS!! Sellers Beware!!!!

Etsy is HORRIBLE--robotic system goes round and round and provides no help other than contact seller. You cannot open a case because the robotic system says contact seller wait 48 hours--you wait that time and it says again contact seller and come back in 48 hours. Their special website does the exact same thing--can't get through to anyone about anything. DON'T BUY ON ETSY--IT'S A RIP OFF!! Lots of foreign sellers with USA based cities listed as their sites--but right after you buy you see it's actually a foreign country seller. Your money is gone. Etsy says it will help with issues--but it cannot be reached at all. Total scam. BEWARE ETSY IS AWFUL!!

I was skeptical at 1st but I wanted to give it a try, so I bought a purse. I was on top of the tracking and when it was shipped , then it shows delivered in another State. I mean, clearly the receipt shows my address why deliver it to lord knows where. . I will fight for my refund. ! I NEVER GOT MY PURSE!

This platform is simply a place for bad morons to scam people. I'm sure there are some legit artists, which is a shame because I REFUSE to use this company anymore. I was completely ripped off purchasing a $105 "sterling silver" bracelet that chipped 6 months later - IT'S NOT SILVER, ONLY PLATED So, since Etsy's "review policy" SUCKS so bad (you only have 100 days, anything can stay together for 100 days!) I'm telling you here - DO NOT BUY FROM Etsy and do not buy from Sakar Jewelry in Baltimore MD.

I purchased a product, and was delivered to the wrong address. They use USPS for delivery. I was tracking the order and even my address was correct is showing in the site delivered to the wrong address. Contact Etsy no response... Don't buy anything from them anymore.

I had an issue with a seller from Hungary. Seller was disrespectful and ignored my important messages. Tried to reach out Etsy customer service but there is no phone number to call. To express my concerns and the Etsy removed my comments without a resolution. I am not really happy with Etsy. I don’t think I want to buy anything from any sellers. I feel Etsy supports sellers not buyers.

My experience with Etsy was a complete disaster. While I was travelling for two months, they deactivated all my items without letting me know about it. No emails, no internal etsy messages, nothing. When I got back I realized that my shop was empty. I contacted them but apart from a default template messages from four different people I didn't get any answers to my questions. I will be making a complaint to recover the money I paid them for my shop. I've lost many hours to build my shop and I regret loosing all that time. If I checked the reviews I'd never use etsy. It was the worst experience I've ever had with a customer services that don't care.

I bought a top from a top rated seller on July 1, I received it on 7/11, tried it, found it weird fitting and scratchy, the armholes were to big and the cleavage a little too deep, even though it was my size, I thought "that's ok, they said returns were accepted", I contacted the seller and asked for a return, they said I could but I had to paid for it myself and they would refund me as soon as they got the item back. The next day I spent $10 sending it back on top of the $35 I already paid for the top, on 7/13 I received a notification saying my package was delivered, the time and the person who received it, I waited 2 more days but no refunds and no messages from seller, I texted them looking for answers and was ignored, they kept my money and the top on my dime. I tried to open a case with Etsy but they wouldn't hear me out until 7/20 because they have no problem taking my money immediately but they would take their time helping you. Tried the chat, they couldn't or wouldn't help either.

I come at this from two angles, as a buyer and as a seller on Etsy, having experience with both. Firstly, as a seller, I honestly would not expect too much from Etsy. It has become largely geared towards low value items, print on demand, digital downloads, etc... Things that are purchased on a whim and can be shipped immediately. With the introduction of their 'buyer protection plan' there is no guarantee that even if your tracking for shipments state 'delivered' that a customer won't lodge a complaint that they have not received their purchase and file for a refund. If that happens Etsy 'could' refund and you will loose your product and your money. UNLESS you happen to be one of the few who have and continue to meet the requirements for Etsy's Star Seller Program. This is not a program that is obtainable on a reliable basis for anyone living outside of the USA. While it was presented as a system to allow buyers to selectively purchase from a steadfast set of sellers, it turns out that two of the criteria not shown to the purchasing public are a minimum dollar value and number of sales in a given period. So, if you are a painter who only turns out 1 piece a month and you only sell 2 of those in a three month period, you won't get star seller status. Even if someone paid $1million for the 2 you sold and you met all other criteria. Once again, it would have you considering turning to selling digital download prints of your work. Not something every artist wants to do. In discussions with other sellers, I would frequently hear them say that 'You need to treat it like a business to be successful there.' This made me laugh. If you wrote up a business plan that included Etsy as your only or main sales channel and took it to a bank to obtain a start up loan, no matter how good things look on your end of things the bank would laugh in your face. Not because Etsy has such a lousy reputation but because it is what it is. A third party selling platform that is not beholding to anyone but their shareholders. What and how they operate can and has changed on dime without notice and this is clearly stated in their TOU's that sellers agree to when signing up. Looking at this singular point only, no one can even attempt to 'project' sales and revenue from an Etsy shop. Every sale there is and should be considered supplemental or a 'bonus' only. I get why some would say that though when I look at who they are. They have already established a 'business' outside of Etsy and use Etsy as one of multiple sales channels. But you can not and should not factor Etsy in to any part of a sane 'business PLAN'. or consider it to be anything more than supplemental. If Etsy was in the practice of including sellers in their operational decisions then that would be different. But they don't. You should treat it exactly as you would selling on a site like eBay, because no matter what clever catch phrase Etsy uses on it's branding it is just another eBay. Secondly, as a buyer. I used to purchase a lot from Etsy sellers and still purchase on occasion. Unlike others, finding things using Etsy search has not been much of a problem. The problem is that the sellers I frequently purchased from are no longer there. Most have now set up shop on their own web sites or with Shopify or similar and I'm happy to make my purchases from there. A big 'X' for me has been some rather unrealistic price increases I've seen on Etsy. I'm not sure if it's the sellers costs and ad's that are driving that up but I have absolutely no difficulty finding many of the things I shop for elsewhere for far less with the same or better service. The incentive to spend time looking on Etsy has naturally declined as a result. Their switch to more 'instant' gratification products like print on demand and digitals isn't what I usually look to buy and I'm left feeling like I am no longer part of Etsy's target market. Not being able to quickly access customer service when needed is also a big 'X' for me. Actually speaking with a real person knowledgeable in the workings of Etsy seems to come only after several attempts at navigating through a dimly lit automated series of tunnels leaving you feeling exasperated by the time you get to the one that may or may not be the right one. Bottom line here is that it is comically ridiculous. If your purchase was not too expensive, I can easily see buyers just giving up and going away. Like I do. The good news is, that with Covid now over and Etsy being a general mess, it has prompted me to explore and re-explore both local shops and other online platforms and owner web sites that I would not have considered even looking for before. So it has opened up a whole new world for me and I can now say that Etsy is no longer my target shopping experience.

I used to sell on this platform until they stole from me. I had a buyer dispute a purchase, this is fine, and disagreements happen. Within 7 days, Etsy took the money out of my account and refunded the buyer his money without expecting him to return my product back to me. I attempted to contact the buyer both directly by email as well as through the Etsy app multiple times with each communication including a prepaid return label with no luck. Etsy was NO help, so, I escalated things. I filed a police report for theft (see attached) and let him know I was going to consult an attorney & he would be liable for any & all collection expenses, OR, just simply return my stolen merchandise. After threatening civil action, Etsy paid me my money back then promptly cut me off. I sell on Ebay, Mercary & Poshmark as well and have never had this issue. I get returns, and any on-line business will. The difference is all of them require I verify the product made it back to me before they refund the buyer. Just be careful. Etsy is not afraid to take your money, give it to the buyer with ZERO expectations you get your merchandise back. I have tried to upload the police report, but, it wont accept a PDF file?

Everything was going smoothly—I placed orders without any issues. However, out of the blue, Etsy canceled my most recent order and suspended my account without offering any explanation. The lack of customer support or contact options is truly disappointing, and it reflects poorly on the company's attitude.

Etsy sends out Renewal notices to their shopkeepers usually 2 weeks early. If you pay before the final due date you basically lose the overlapping time and they are double-dipping. IE: if you get a notice on July 1st for renewals on July 15th and you pay on July 1st then your ads are renewed from the July 1st date and you just lost 2 weeks of time from your previous renewal. Also never pay your fees to ETSY until the due date.

Just use Amazon. Most items take 3-4 weeks to be Delivered. I'm still waiting, 6+ weeks later, for others. The nature of the company should be to provide fast delivery. It's just a pointless service and company. Stuff made my people at home, which is of poor quality and takes a months to arrive. Most customers would be ordering for a birthday or some kind of gift for someone. Waiting 6+ weeks is just mental.

Etsy doesn't care about its sellers.PERIOD. Etsy charges lots of fees and provides no support for sellers. They have a Purchase protection program or something to this effect which never gets to be used. Your buyer breaks an item, you pay. Leaving this platform! A junk.
