Tamarind Villa was a very nice home, the views are spectacular, the outdoor area is beautiful, the pool is nice and spacious and very well maintained, the gazebo is very nice to take in the sunsets and hang out, and all outdoor furniture is comfortable and very clean, the deck with the sun chairs is large and the view from that corner is absolutely spectacular! Having breakfast on that terrace on the large round table was so nice. The house outside is 100% what we expected and more. The inside is a bit different. The upstairs bedrooms were great because they had new air conditioning units. These rooms got very nicely cooled because the doors had glass and it almost sealed the room, so the air conditioning was excellent, and we never saw any bugs because we kept the doors closed. There are four bedrooms upstairs, one has a queen, one has a king (both rooms go out to a beautiful porch with the most amazing views) then two more rooms with two single beds in each one. The king bed was a bit hard to sleep on. The queen was great and all the kids loved the single beds.
The downstairs rooms are the ones that need a lot of improvements. They all have air conditioning but they are older and set to a certain temperature and it was impossible to cool down the hot rooms because the doors and all the shutters enclosing the rooms have slots or openings as the entire downstairs has therefore you are unable to seal the rooms. Bugs and mosquitos are a real nuisance and the rooms are very hot even when turning the air conditioners. Thank goodness all the downstairs bedrooms have mosquito nets which helped with the mosquito situation. My sister and brother-in-law got bitten by a centipede in their bed and my mother and father had mosquitoes and roaches inside their bedroom on several nights, they even brought home one inside their suitcase. The bathrooms are also “open concept” having lattice at the top of the wooden shutters therefore allowing moths and even birds to fly in. The roaches (being from the Caribbean) are actually very pretty (not that this pertains to the house) but we didn’t mind them as much as city roaches i guess; nonetheless we prefer not to have any bugs at all.
The common areas downstairs/inside the home are a living room with a television (which reminds me - there was only one TV in the whole house, I asked the concierge if we could have another one and they brought one by on the third day of our visit to put in one of the kids room) the living room shares the dining area and goes out to the terrace, the décor is nice and open. The kitchen was a bit small, but it had everything we needed. The refrigerator could use a little TLC. It freezes and the water from the melting ice rains down on the many different dishes of food. Thank goodness they were covered. There is no air conditioning in any of these areas and even though there are fans it was still a bit hot. Melinda and Lidia, the ladies that cook and clean were absolutely AMAZING! Melinda was so so so nice she cooked delicious foods every day and even made us traditional Saint Lucia’s meals. She cooked pancakes every morning (kids special requests) and eggs and anything we would ask her for. She would cook the lunch and leave there for when we returned from our outings and excursions. Apart from her cooking it was so pleasant to have her there, she has great customer service skills and is an absolute gem to have around. Lidia cleaned the rooms so nicely every day, she was detailed, and the rooms were truly very clean once she would be done with them.
We also went on a catamaran that was suggested from the concierge; I wish we would have booked a solo catamaran as we didn’t really want to go on a party boat and that is what is was; the shared catamarans are full of people from the near-by resorts and there is barely any space to sit, its very uncomfortable. Its not recommended with kids or elder people this is something I truly wish I could go back and change… that experience could have been way better.
Car/driving – we rented cars and I think it would have been better to have a driver and a large sprinter. Driving in Saint Lucia is crazy! Lol! Lesson learned. Specially when coming from the US or any country in which you drive on the right side of the road … it was an adventure for sure.
In all – we had a great time, I wanted to write a review for anyone looking in to staying at Tamarind Villa or going to Saint Lucia as I had totally different expectations. Nonetheless we had a great time !
Thank you Tamarind Villa! 😊
